“It has romance, deceptions, murder, firework industry, television industry, extended families, multigenerational family, ATF, mystery and suspense.
–April A. Renn

Here’s the set-up:

A fireworks show goes terribly wrong, pitting the passion of that singular industry — and the multi-generational families who devote their lives to it — against the economics and politics of big event marketing and television news.

One Reviewer Notes:

“Fireworks, death, and romance. Not a bad foundation for a book. Then add the TV industry and its thirst for blood on the screen, an ATF Agent charged with investigating a death during a fireworks demonstration, and a TV producer torn between her industry and doing what is right, and you’ll find Sandra Balzo’s new book, HEAVEN’S FIRE. Oh, I forgot to mention a traditional extended Italian family whom you’ll love as they struggle to save their business. There are even a couple of nosy ex’s thrown in for good measure.

“Pasquale Firenze, the patriarch of the family business, Firenze Fireworks, is killed in a malfunction during the climax of the biggest fireworks extravaganza of the year. Local TV8 is on the scene and captures everything on tape–some of it so graphic that producer Wendy “Jake” Jacobus is torn between doing what’s right for the station and what’s right for society.

About the Author

I turned to mystery writing after twenty years in corporate public relations, event management, and publicity in Milwaukee. My books are set in a gourmet coffee shop and feature Maggy Thorsen, a down-sized PR person. (Go figure.) In the first book, Uncommon Grounds, Maggy arrives at the store the morning of their grand opening only to find one of her partners dead in a pool of skim milk in front of the espresso machine. I’m told the books are funny. There are five more Maggy Thorsen mysteries out: GROUNDS FOR MURDER; BEAN THERE, DONE THAT; BREWED, CRUDE and TATTOOED: FROM THE GROUNDS UP and A CUP of JO. TRIPLE SHOT is coming later this year.

RUNNING ON EMPTY, the first book in a second series (to alternate with the Maggy books), was just released and is set in the popular vacation destination of North Carolina’s High Country”

Fireworks and romance in the North Carolina mountains? It sounds like a fun read, especially to a fellow romance writer from Myrtle Beach.

True, but funny, story. Everytime we vacation in the NC mountains, we run into a waitress or cashier who has just returned from a Myrtle Beach vaca or has one scheduled soon. It really is true – if you live in Myrtle Beach, you probably vacation in the mountains. If you live in the mountains, you probably vacation in Myrtle Beach.

I guess the grass looks greener on the other side no matter how nice your side may be.

I’ll have to check this one out for sure.
