Kathryn Shay’s FINALLY A FAMILY is Our eBook of the Day at just $3.99, with 5.0 Stars on 2 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Kathryn Shay’s Finally a Family, just $3.99 on Kindle:

A real life medevac helicopter unit, Mercy Flight Base in Canandaigua, New York, served as the basis for Shay’s research for this book. She is grateful for all the hours the dedicated pilots, paramedics and staff spent with her.

Guardian Flight Base, a search and rescue air ambulance service, needs another helicopter and Alexis Castle has come to Catasaga Lake to see if her company, Castle Industries, deems them worthy of grant money. She soon finds out that they are very deserving, but not before she falls in love with their head pilot, Spence Keagan, a set-in-his ways, untrusting man.

Both Spence and Alexis know getting involved smacks of impropriety, but they can’t help themselves. They’re further bound together when their two kids, both of whom are estranged from their parents, form a bond of their own. Complicated and intense, this relationship sets the stage for some high powered action and passionate love scenes.

From the reviewers:

“One of the best features of this romance is the authentic air ambulance / search and rescue backdrop. I enjoyed reading this family focused romance.” Muse Creations

“Shay’s research is, of course, extensive, but she doesn’t beat you over the head with it. The details of what it is to be part of a helicopter rescue team are there, but more importantly, her characters make it all human. Alexis’s daughter and her father are well drawn, as are Spence’s son and father. If you haven’t read a Kathryn Shay book, I urge you to pick up one this release, and get to know some wonderful characters.” All About Romance

“FINALLY A FAMILY is a warm relationship drama that highlights the interchange between three generations of two dysfunctional families. The lead characters, their fathers, and their children behave like real people struggling to find a connection between one another. Kathryn Shay scores with another triumph that echoes the need of love and understanding to forge a bonded family.” The Best Reviews

Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first ‘romance,’ a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists – and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.

Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women’s college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who’d attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, “I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that.”

Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she’d again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.

Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-two books for Harlequin, ten mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.

Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations – readers say they feel they know the people in her books – and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has had a one of her books serialized in the December 2003 COSMOPOLITAN magazine and has been quoted in PEOPLE and THE WALL STREET JOURNAL. She has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.

Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. “My life is very full,” she reports, “but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams.”

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Andy Gavin’s The Darkening Dream– 4.8 Stars on 25 Out of 26 Rave Reviews – Just $2.99 on Kindle!

The Darkening Dream

by Andy Gavin

Gavin … gleefully transforms a story of teenagers battling vampires into something much more. The story turns into a mash-up of Greco-Roman mythology, Judeo-Christian imagery and the occult, making it a fresh take on the overdone vampire genre. Gavin’s writing also hints at a wonderfully twisted sense of humor … and the action throughout is fast-paced and compelling.” – Kirkus Reviews

Even as the modern world pushes the supernatural aside in favor of science and steel, the old ways remain. God, demon, monster, and sorcerer alike plot to regain what was theirs in Andy Gavin’s chilling debut, The Darkening Dream.

1913, Salem, Massachusetts – Sarah Engelmann’s life is full of friends, books, and avoiding the pressure to choose a husband, until an ominous vision and the haunting call of an otherworldly trumpet shake her. When she stumbles across a gruesome corpse, she fears that her vision was more of a premonition. And when she sees the murdered boy moving through the crowd at an amusement park, Sarah is thrust into a dark battle she does not understand.

With the help of Alex, a Greek immigrant who knows a startling amount about the undead, Sarah sets out to uncover the truth. Their quest takes them to the factory mills of Salem, on a midnight boat ride to spy on an eerie coastal lair, and back, unexpectedly, to their own homes. What can Alex’s elderly, vampire-hunting grandfather and Sarah’s own rabbi father tell them? And what do Sarah’s continuing visions reveal?

No less than Gabriel’s Trumpet, the tool that will announce the End of Days, is at stake, and the forces that have banded to recover it include a 900 year-old vampire, a trio of disgruntled Egyptian gods, and a demon-loving Puritan minister. At the center of this swirling cast is Sarah, who must fight a millennia-old battle against unspeakable forces, knowing the ultimate prize might be herself.

In the tradition of Clancy, Cussler, and W.E.B. Griffin, newcomer R.E. McDermott delivers a thriller to rival the masters.

When marine engineer and very part-time spook Tom Dugan becomes collateral damage in the War on Terror, he's not about to take it lying down.

Falsely implicated in a hijacking, he's offered a chance to clear himself by helping the CIA snare their real prey, Dugan's best friend, London ship owner Alex Kairouz. Reluctantly, Dugan agrees to go undercover in Alex's company, despite doubts about his friend's guilt. Once undercover, Dugan's steadfast refusal to accept Alex's guilt puts him at odds not only with his CIA superiors, but also with a beautiful British agent with whom he's romantically involved.

When a tanker is found adrift near Singapore with a dead crew, and another explodes in Panama as Alex lies near death after a suspicious suicide attempt, Dugan is framed for the attacks. Out of options, and convinced the attacks are prelude to an even more devastating assault, Dugan eludes capture to follow his last lead to Russia, only to be shanghaied as an 'advisor' to a Russian Spetsnaz unit on a suicide mission.

Deadly Straits is a non-stop thrill ride, from London streets, to the dry docks of Singapore, to the decks of the tankers that feed the world's thirst for oil, with stops along the way in Panama, Langley, Virginia, and Teheran. Richly spiced with detail from the author's 30 years sailing, building, and repairing ships worldwide, it is, in the words of one reviewer, "fast-paced, multilayered and gripping."

Review

"A fast-moving thriller packed with action and intrigue."
--Scott Nicholson, best-selling author of Liquid Fear

"With his debut novel, McDermott sets the bar high--very high. This ambitious novel will keep you turning the pages to get to the thrilling conclusion. This is a truly impressive first book. I look forward to reading more from him."

          --Neal Hock, Bookhound's Den

"International intrigue in the hands of an expert. With his breathless pacing and punchy prose, McDermott knots a complicated plot so real it might as well be breaking news. Deadly Straits ravages like a category-five hurricane: unpredictable, merciless, and fierce."

--L.C. Fiore, award-winning author of Green Gospel

"A word of warning -- when you sit down to read Deadly Straits, make sure you have time to read it in one sitting. You will not want to put this book down."

         --Chris Gerrib, POD People Review

"Five Stars - A Brilliant Thriller."

READER COMMENTS

"An awesome book! It has a very Tom Clancy feel. Kudos to Mr. McDermott. Well done, Sir."
D. Bosshardt, Amazon - 5 Stars

"An absolute cracker of a thriller, quite simply on a par with Clancy et al. When I'd finished I wanted more! A terrific story superbly written.
'Tao" Amazon (UK) - 5 Stars

"A little Clancy, a bit of Ludlum, and a lot of Mr. McDermott!"
Libby Dunkin, Amazon - 5 Stars

"Move over WEB Griffin, Cussler, & Ludlum. Weaving together come-alive characters, McDermott takes us through an all too realistic plot involving oil tankers used to cause havoc to the worlds' shipping ... a page turner."
Bob Hopfe, Amazon - 5 Stars

"A brilliant thriller. I was quite surprised that this is a first novel. On par with high ranking thrillers. Action non-stop ...a great read."
Cheryl M-M, Amazon (UK) - 5 Stars

"In 1994 (Debt of Honor), Tom Clancy used a jumbo jet as a weapon ... it happened on 9/11. In 2011 R.E. McDermott published "Deadly Straits" with supertankers as terror weapons with deadly results. Let's hope we don't look back and say McDermott predicted that. This is a book of action and suspense, well written with multiple plots woven into one coherent whole. I've read several best-sellers that are legends in the genre and this book is as well done as any of them, if not better."
Stephen C. Lovely, Amazon - 5 Stars

"McDermott consistently gets it right. The captains, mates and engineers sound like captains, mates and engineers ... like visiting old friends. Tom Dugan - a skilled professional a bit rough around the edges - works well as the protagonist. Smart and educated, he also regularly gets grease under his nails, and moves easily between action and insight. A book even a thriller skeptic and ship geek can love. A gripping read - highly recommended."
Rick Spilman, The Old Salt Blog - 5 Stars

"In a book that takes no prisoners, McDermott tells a tale of high seas terrorism and tells it well. Get this one, right now!"
Nancy, Cheryl's Book Nook - 5 Stars

"In 20 years at sea, I've been through the Panama Canal too many times to count, and through the Bosphorus and Malacca Straits as well. Yours was the first novel to convince me the author had been there too. Well Done."
Capt. D. Fath

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Ralph Zeta’s CRY FOR JUSTICE is Our eBook of the Day at just 99 Cents, with 4.6 Stars on 8 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Ralph Zeta’s Cry for Justice, just 99 cents on Kindle:

Jason Justice is living life the only way he knows: his way. A successful Palm Beach lawyer, he can be picky not just about his clients, but whom he chooses to bed.

That all changes one stormy night when he reluctantly agrees to look into the affairs of a young woman who needs assistance in locating her missing step father, who by all indications may have not only staged her mother’s suicide but may have also made off with her family’s fortune.

With little to go on except for a yellowing snapshot, he takes on the case not realizing his search for the missing man would eventually lead him to more victims and expose a link to a secret  CIA relocation program and a trained killer who will stop at nothing to keep his crimes secret.

From the reviewers:

It is my hope that this new author continues to write thrillers and especially considers creating a Jason Justice series.  For a debut novel, Cry For Justice certainly stands out. If you’re a fan of mysteries and thrillers offering plenty of action, suspenseful, with a well thought out story line, a fantastic, bigger-than-life nemesis and superb female characters, don’t hesitate to give  Cry For Justice a try. – P. Stewart

This is the first book from an author who I hope will continue to write thrillers. It is fast paced, descriptive, keeps your attention and is completely enjoyable. This is a great weekend read, highly recommened.  – Ildi Garay

Cry For Justice is a remarkable thriller that would be impressive if any established thriller writer had written it, but it’s all the more impressive as it’s Ralph Zeta’s debut novel. I really liked the author’s suspenseful writing style, and there are lots of twists and turns in the plot that will keep your adrenalin pumping.  –  Douglas R. Cobb

Ralph Zeta has been a financial advisor and money manager for the past twenty years. After spending close to two decades living in California he relocated to South Florida where he now lives with his family. He is currently working on series of new thrillers and perhaps, one more Jason Justice adventure. Cry For justice is his debut novel.
