16-year-old Clare can’t stop drawing the bizarre, winged skulls she calls “Sammies”. Her psychiatrist assumes the compulsive drawings are just expressions of Clare’s grief over her father abandoning her. But then Clare discovers that her Sammies are exact matches for the Death’s Head on the grave of Samantha Forsythe, a teen who reportedly fell to her death over two centuries ago.

Before long, Clare’s drawings morph into cryptic writings that urge her to uncover the truth behind Samantha’s death. Together with Neil — the friend she might be falling for — Clare scours the local history for clues. She finds that, although Samantha was engaged to a wealthy landowner, there were whispered rumors of her involvement with a younger, biracial man.

Soon, Clare is haunted by disturbing dream images — a mysterious eye, a broken chain — that point to someone Samantha called her “Dearest”. But who is Dearest? And why does Samantha need Clare to find him so badly?

Isolated and carrying hidden scars of her own, Clare fears her obsession with Samantha will threaten her sanity and safety. But it seems she has no choice in the matter . . .

The Grave Artist is a compelling paranormal murder mystery and a poignant story about loss and what it means thrive in a less-than-perfect reality.

Here’s the set-up:

A criminal defense attorney is retained to represent a man accused of accessory to murder–a cold-blooded shooting. The client’s family has risked everything to come up with the money for a retainer. The evidence seems damning. Nonetheless, the lawyer becomes convinced that his client is not guilty and sets out to prove his innocence at trial. The prosecutor, an ambitious and beautiful young woman in the Office of the District Attorney, presents the lead detective as her key witness. The lawyer puts his client on the stand to testify. The courtroom is charged with action and suspense. Is there justice? The ending of the story compels a shocking answer.

A short story by Ralph Shamas, the author of The Homicide Chronicle: Defending the Citizen Accused. Kirkus Reviews has said that the author’s “…prosaic approach…is deeply engrossing” and “…a welcome change in the genre of legal fiction.” Javier’s Defense displays the author’s intriguing style in a fascinating courtroom drama.

“My name is Samantha Green–call me Sam–and I’m a private eye.”

Desperately in search of your stolen bicycle? Has your cat gone mysteriously missing? Meet Samantha “Sam” Green, Briarton’s most precocious private eye. She may be only ten years old, but that’s not stopping her from figuring out some very vexing mysteries. Be it a slinking shadow in the night or a pesky vandal on the prowl, Sam has a flair for cracking the toughest case wide open–and getting herself grounded along the way.

Samantha Green Mysteries: Book One
The Case of the Haunted Pumpkin

With Halloween one week away, a mystery comes knocking at Samantha Green’s door in the form of scary Mrs. Finkel, Briarton’s new librarian and suspected witch. When Mrs. Finkel asks for Sam’s help to investigate haunting pumpkin deliveries and “noises that vanish,” Sam is terrified, but her curious nature just can’t resist the challenge. With the help of her best friend, Brian; favorite babysitter, Jenn; and trusty yellow Lab, Murphy, Sam delves into the baffling and downright spooky case. Soon, she is full-tilt into her investigation of the haunting, unexplainable events occurring at Mrs. Finkel’s house, from the mounting pile of pumpkins left on her doorstep to menacing notes attempting to run her out of town. As Sam chases the trail of clues, she uncovers yet another mystery–that of Mrs. Finkel herself!

Samantha Green and the Case of the Haunted Pumpkin is Christy Lynn Allen’s clever, heartwarming mystery for young readers from ages eight to twelve. Fast-paced with plenty of plot twists, it’s serious fun for anyone who loves a good mystery, while also shining new light on stereotypes.

Here’s the set-up:
The thick, heavy curtains lay still drawn and he yanked the nearest one back on its rail. He looked out at the day. The light was strange, not quite right somehow; it felt like morning, but perhaps he was mistaken. At that precise moment a single white dove flew across the open sky.
It made no sound, not even a beat of its wings….There is something coming but it is far worse than any storm. One man’s struggle to achieve his desires will inadvertently create a void in another man’s soul.
A void that has to be filled.
And what fills it will spark a chain of catastrophic events.
The seeds of deceit will set a ball in motion that will tip the scales of balance, and once it is on its way there will be no way to stop it.
Soon the characters drawn into the dark web that follows will find themselves battling for their very existence.A spectacular tale of friendship, trust, love and betrayal that will entertain and chill with equal measure.
