The Green-Eyed Monster by Mike Robinson – A New Breed of Thriller, Supernatural Mystery And a Journey Into The Cosmos of Two Strange And Troubled Lives

The Green-Eyed Monster

by Mike Robinson

5 Rave Reviews

Here’s the set-up:

The pen is truly mightier than the deadliest sword.

Martin Smith and John Becker: bestselling authors with ordinary names and extraordinary minds.

Their words have power — to heal, to kill, to change the lives of their “characters” in shocking and unexpected ways. Famous for their uncanny similarity in both physical manner and literary voice, their childhood rivalry spins out of control into adulhood.

The death of one at the hands of the other brings to light their troubling past — and a mysterious presence, watching on from the shadows — an authorial entity with roots beyond our time or dimension; an entity with far-reaching designs.

5-Star Amazon Review

“Mike Robinson’s latest release, The Green-Eyed Monster, is a compelling and unique work. I found the genre label especially attractive: literary horror. It seems like an oxymoron. Just to explore that unique title relationship, I absolutely had to read this book. I’m happy to say this story delivers what it promised. If you feel intrigued by the concept, I highly recommend you pick up this book.”

About The Author

It was at the tender age of 7 that an interconnection of cells and organs called Mike Robinson (then Mikey) penned, or pencilled, his first story. Called “Aliens In My Backyard!”, it went on to become a runaway bestseller, topping international charts (or maybe that just happened in his imagination, too).

Although he has since worked as an independent videogame producer and cinematographer, writing has always been the focal point of his creative life, although to him the phrase “creative life” sounds a tad redundant. His first professional sale, a short story entitled “The Hand of Spudd”, appeared in Storyteller Magazine when he was 19. Since then, his work has appeared in a dozen magazines, anthologies and podcasts. In 2006, he was one of five guys comprising GLAWS, the Greater L.A. Writers Society, which has since become the second largest writers’ group in Southern California. He’s the editor of “Literary Landscapes”, the society’s publication. See more at: www.glaws.org

“Skunk Ape Semester”, his debut novel, was released early 2012 by Solstice Publishing and was a Finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. His follow-up, the supernatural mystery novel “The Green-Eyed Monster”, debuted October 2012 from Curiosity Quills Press. His existential horror novel “The Prince of Earth” is also available.

One Reviewer Notes:
This is a great coming-of-age novel. The details (songs, brands, clothes) really take you back to 1971. The story has a great hook that compels you not put it down until the end. If this was a movie, it would be a cross between Stand By Me and To Kill a Mockingbird.

Here’s the set-up:

By February of 1991, when Amicus Shoemacher is assigned to correspond with Nada, who lives in Rijeka in the Republic of Croatia, Yugoslavia, her life has already begun to unravel. The only bright spot in her life is her favorite baby cousin, Emily. Ami’s life further unravels on March 25 of that year when Emily is hit by a car and dies. Ami doesn’t respond to Nada’s letters at first, but when she does, she learns having a friend so far away comforts her.

Through her own letters, Nada shares insights into life in a country at war, including nights spent awake fearing that her home will be broken into and that she will be killed. Ami, while dealing with her own depression, tries to comprehend what it would be like to live in the middle of a real war. Things start to look up for Ami as she develops a romantic relationship with a new boy in class, Andy, and she renews her friendship with Krissa. Meanwhile, the war in Yugoslavia deepens.

By the beginning of 1992, although Nada begins to adapt to her normal in the newly recognized country of Croatia, Ami finds her happiness was short-lived. Holidays without Emily were devastating and Andy breaks his promise to keep in touch. Will Ami, unable to adapt like Nada, decide to take her own life?

A Warm Place to Call Home (a demon’s story)

by Michael Siemsen

5.0 stars – 10 Reviews
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled

Here’s the set-up:

Frederick is a demon. Born in Maryland in the early 1980’s, he hasn’t a clue where he came from or why, but feels an irresistible desire to occupy a human body. Once inside, he finds the previous occupants’ consciousness and memories forever erased, an inevitable side effect that gives Frederick pause when switching bodies, but not so much as to truly halt his ongoing enjoyment of human lives. In various bodies, he travels the world for decades–aimless–sampling cultures and experiencing life from the points of view of males, females, young, old, rich, poor.

Now, Frederick has an urge to return to his roots in America, explore the mystery of his origin, find someone to love, and settle down for a while. In his hometown, his mission bears fruit much faster than he expected, as person after person presents themselves, and following his impulses, he is lead directly to love, tragedy, answers, and the humanity he never knew he wanted.
