Here’s the set-up:

Michael DeCara came home from the Vietnam War a wounded man, both physically and emotionally. He tried putting his life back together, but found civilian life difficult after all he’d experienced in Nam. Raising his young daughter, Vanessa, by himself after his wife left, he found it difficult to commit to one job or one woman for any length of time. Then he met a young woman who made him feel good about himself again and who fell in love with Vanessa as well. But then a life-changing event occurred and he had to choose between his past and the present. He chose to leave without a word to the young woman, believing he was doing what was best for her. Now, years later, she has walked back into his life and he believes they may have a second chance at love-except she hates him and he doesn’t understand why.

Danielle Westerly fell in love when she was only eighteen and her heart was broken when he left her without a word. Her heartache was increased when she made a fateful decision that would alter her future, and she blamed him for her loss. Years later, she is single and has built up a successful career when she accidently runs into the man who was responsible for her past pain. Yet, their chemistry is undeniable. Can Dani give up her anger and let go of the pain of the past and fall in love again with the man she has hated all these years?

Dani and Michael share a journey of heartache, loss and painful memories that threaten to keep them apart. Can they break past these and finally find love again?

Reviews

“Once in a while you will read a book that does not fit into a mould, that does not follow a formula or try to romanticize life. A book that does not hide the ugly reality of the choices or the mistakes me make along the way. A book that portrays human nature as it is, gritty and real, and shows that sometimes it takes losing everything to truly see the value of what was in front of you all along.” – 4.5 Stars from Natasha is a Book Junkie

“What a great story! The characters are so well developed you feel what they are going through. The book was impossible to put down because you just had to find out what was going to happen next! Well written and a great read, I highly recommend it!” – Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars

On some levels it's a story about growing up and the trials and tribulations that come with being a teenager, and on other levels it's a very dark narrative that delves deep into the central character's disturbed psyche.

Here's the set-up:
There are two worlds – our world, and Billy’s: and when things get really bad in Billy’s world he escapes to the secret clearing in the woods, near Butler’s farm. Only here can Billy be his real self – watched over by the shadowy figure of his guardian angel – imagining himself as the new messiah, happily making sacrifices to his God and cutting up road-kill.

All is going well in Billy’s strange world until a pretty girl arrives and ruins everything.

The outcome is fatal!

From now on, life won’t be easy for young Billy, but then, if you’re the new messiah – no one said it would be.

Michael Cameron - author of the best selling In Harm's Way – explores the mind of a teenager who has lost his way in the madness, humor and despair of the sexually liberated 1970s. BILLY CHRIST is both a psychological thriller and a coming-of-age story set in a world of pop-music, TV commercials and the English countryside. BILLY CHRIST: an intriguing tale spun with humor and drama, and a Gothic lust for gore and horror.
One Reviewer Notes:
Michael Cameron manages to take you into the minds of his characters without the need to signpost who they are beforehand. His subtle use of character nuances and descriptions bring them to life in a way which often makes you feel like their thoughts are being spoken to you directly.

A Realistic Coming-of-Age Romance Drama For The Facebook Era – Diane Vanaskie Mulligan’s Captivating Debut Watch Me Disappear

2011 ABNA Quarterfinalist

Watch Me Disappear

by Diane Vanaskie Mulligan

4.3 stars – 21 Reviews
Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled

Here’s the set-up:

A realistic teen romance with its share of laughs and drama, Watch Me Disappear is a captivating debut.

Lizzie Richards isn’t excited to be starting over at a new school for her senior year, but she’s trying to take her mother’s advice and make the most of it–the only way she can:  By disobeying her strict parents’ rules.

Lizzie’s father has moved the family around every few years to advance his career, so she has never had a chance to develop the kind of “BFF” relationships she thinks most kids have. She’s bracing herself for another lonely year at her third high school when her neighbor Maura gets sick of watching her little brother when she could be partying.

Thanks to Maura’s plotting, Lizzie becomes everyone’s new favorite babysitter. Seeing her opportunity, Lizzie decides to break her mother’s rules by using Maura’s computer to create a secret Email address and Facebook account. She is quickly friended by Missy, a fellow transfer student as eager for a friend as she is.

Things are looking up for Lizzie until Maura’s ex-boyfriend Paul sets his eye on Missy. Caught between her new best friend and the neighbor whose friendship promises instant popularity, Lizzie doesn’t know what to do–because she’s fallen for Paul, too.

Reviews

“Lizzie was a very nuanced and nicely written character. I liked her foibles and insecurities, as well as the fact that she was aware of those parts of her personality. Despite having low expectations, she can’t stop herself from having slightly higher hopes. Her internal reactions to the people around her are amusing and insightful. I think Lizzie is a character that will resonate with a lot of readers, both young and old. ” —ABNA Expert Reviewer

“WATCH ME DISAPPEAR is an awesome read, both for YA readers and adults.” – Amazon Reader Review

“I found myself quickly absorbed into the life of the main character, Lizzie, and the trials and tribulations of being 17-years-old and trying to adjust to a new life after having moved to Massachusetts the summer before her senior year of high school.” – Goodreads.com Reader Review

From The Author

Thanks for giving Watch Me Disappear a try. I know it can be a leap of faith to buy an indie novel. I appreciate your support. I began working on this novel about 6 years ago. In the spring of 2012, when I finally felt it was ready for publication, I began researching and querying agents. After a while, I felt like I was spending a lot of time on a task that wasn’t especially productive. I decided that I’d rather spend my time getting my book in front of readers. This summer I proofread my text (with the help of some sharp-eyed friends) and learned about ebook and print book design. I am proud of the result, and I hope you enjoy it. If you do, please consider writing a review, and share it with your friends (lending is enabled for the Kindle edition!).

Here’s the set-up:

The Freedom Star immerses readers in the lives, dreams, and sufferings of two families, one owned by the other, at the outset of the Civil War. Isaac yearns for the freedom that Henry, his boyhood friend and owner’s son, takes for granted. Although they share similar dreams, Isaac’s life as a slave promises only hardships, while Henry enjoys his first year as a cadet at West Point, oblivious to his friend’s suffering. When war comes, Henry joins the Confederates. Soon after, his father takes ill and his older brother seizes control of the family farm. Abruptly, slaves are forced to endure the whip, Isaac’s father is sold south, and the atmosphere in the slave quarters becomes as oppressive as the August sun on a dusty tobacco field.Following a series of false promises and futile escape attempts, Isaac’s only hope of reuniting with the woman he loves lies in joining Henry and the Rebels on their march north. When Henry is wounded and taken prisoner, Isaac finds himself behind Union lines and free, but facing a dilemma. Should he follow his dreams, or return to slavery to save his childhood friend?

The Freedom Star offers readers a powerful and evocative family saga with poignant characters and compelling layers of story that will hold readers until the very last page.

5 Star Amazon Review
“Just finished reading “The Freedom Star”. A Civil War History buff and avid reader of many Civil War related books this work captures the pathos of those victimized by slavery as well as the ethos of the institution of slavery. I found Jeff Andrews’ book both powerful and evocative. His insights and sense of awareness provide for a forceful and convincing narrative. Job well done.”
