What if the person you loved more than anyone found it too hard to share their darkest secret? Rian of the Elves: Welcome to the Spire by Erin Hassinger – Just 99 cents on Kindle!

5.0 stars – 2 Reviews

Here’s the set-up:

What if the person you loved more than anyone found it too hard to share their darkest secret? Samuel Mangus quickly discovers that his dad has had a pretty good reason to keep his hidden. A powerful Elf, Aubrey Mangus chose to leave his homeland long ago, taking nothing along besides his most prized possession—a mortal son.

For fourteen years, Sam’s life couldn’t have been more pleasingly plain. Yet, the last day of school was anything but that. His teacher sends a gift home to his handsome father, while he’s just had a conversation with a talking bird named Justus Sneeble. Worse than that, the Sneeble claims he’s come to warn him of something. Sam hopes he’s imagined the meeting, but once home is greeted by an evil creature called Recene. What happens next is too much to believe.

In Rian of the Elves: Welcome to the Spire, Sam meets new friends, each of them a different breed, each born with extraordinary gifts of their own. The Guild they form will be unprecedented and each has the honest intention of helping him succeed. Their Spire is the most magical place he’s ever been. So why is it that no one can tell him what lies beyond the plain, wooden door atop the Anteroom’s stairs? Oddly enough, Sam finds it more mesmerizing than anything else there. In the end, the answer is nearly heartbreaking and Sam must face the ultimate test of bravery and goodness on his own.

Caught in a Web is a story about being caught in many relationships that ended in horror, and how I was abused from my childhood that caused me to mistrust. Those relationships almost destroyed my life. The purpose of my story is mostly to help young women and anyone else caught in some kind of web, or who has a dysfunctional life. This story will give you some hope and some insight about your circumstances and to make the right choices, because sometimes those choices can last a lifetime.

5-Star Amazon Review

“This book is an invaluable tool in understanding and responding to the needs of individuals who have been the victims of trauma in their lives that has had the effect of impairing their ability to have healthy relationships. The book is powerful!!! This is a book I would keep on my bookshelf to refer to others who have suffered abuse. I highly recommend this book.”

SNOW DAY AWARD CONSIDERATION
Dan Maurer’s Snow Day  is a semi-finalist for The Kindle Book Review’s 2013 Book Awards. Finalists announced September 1. Winners announced October 1.

It happens each winter, and has for over 35 years. Every time the snow starts to fall late in the evening before a school day, the dreams begin again for Billy Stone. They are always the same – there’s a dark tunnel, and there’s blood, lots of blood, and someone is screaming.

In this chilling childhood tale, Billy, recounts the events of one unforgettable day in 1975. On that day, he and his friends played carefree in the snow, until an adventure gone awry left him far from home, staring death in the face, and running from a killer bent on keeping a horrible secret.

Set in a time before Amber Alerts, when horror stories were told around camp fires instead of on the nightly news, Snow Day is a blend of nostalgia and nightmare that makes us question if the good old days were really as good as we remember.

From a new voice in dark fiction comes a thriller about an idyllic childhood turned horrifying; a cautionary tale about how losing sight of the difference between feeling safe and being safe can lead to deadly consequences.

A Girl, a Guy, a Tournament and a Challenge

The Girl: At a time when most girls obsess about homecoming and high school prom, Rainy Dey spent her senior year caring for her dying mother. So when her father drops her off at college to start her freshman year, his words of advice to his bookish daughter are to start acting like a young person and finally have some fun.

The Guy: College senior, Aaron Donavan, aka Mr. Hot-and-Knows-It, is President of the Clubhouse, a social club for the college's most wealthy and popular guys. Aaron can have any girl on campus except the one who challenges and excites him the most--Rainy Dey.

The Tournament: Every year, the senior members of The Clubhouse engage in a golf-inspired tournament to see who can sleep with the most freshman girls. When Rainy finds out about the tournament, she believes Aaron's only interest in her is to score points by taking her V-Card.

The Challenge: Can Aaron convince Rainy that his feelings for her are true and that she won't be just another notch on his tournament scorecard?
One Reviewer Notes:
This was a fun, quick read. Rainy was a very relatable character, struggling to transition from the good-girl high schooler with way too much responsibility on her shoulders into a young woman finally able to pursue her own passions. Dakota Madison spins an engaging tale about Rainy and Aaron - the guy who might be a soulless seducer... or might be Rainy's soulmate. Against the backdrop of the social club "The Clubhouse" and it's misogynistic traditions, Rainy comes across as a strong girl who knows her own value. What she needs to learn is how to trust her own heart. Nicely paced, some great tension, and a satisfying resolution.

Take A Very Different Look at Wine Country – Deborah Brenner’s Engaging & Inspiring Women of the Vine: Inside the World of Women Who Make, Taste, and Enjoy Wine – Now On Sale For Just $2.99

Here’s the set-up:

This book takes you on a very different journey to wine country, inviting you to enjoy the remarkable stories of twenty dynamic women in the world of wine. These women share their lives, wine tips, pairings, and most important, enthusiasm for wine while imparting their rich life lessons and wine expertise—a wonderful way to share your love for wine with the enterprising women who help bring it to your table.

Review From Publisher’s Weekly

“Brenner, a marketing executive-turned-wine label owner, presents wide-ranging interviews with 21 women involved in the wine industry, covering everything from the crush to the shoes to the perfect pregnancy timetable when working among the grapes. After a brief description of the winemaking process, Brenner offers detailed, quote-heavy profiles of award-winning winemakers like Heidi Peterson Barrett and Kristin Bedair, who pontificate on life as, in the words of winemaker Gina Gallo, “part farmer, part scientist, part chef, part CEO.” Besides the success, there’s plenty of angst and adversity—disappearing funds, gender discrimination, and family tragedy—to serve as inspiration to those in need of career advice. While most of the interviews are with winemakers from California, several are with afficionados such as Stephanie Browne, founder of Divas Uncorked, a wine group for women of color, and top industry scholar Dr. Ann Noble. Though Brenner’s upbeat voice can veer into self-help speak, anyone who enjoys wine will find much to like in this collection, especially those laboring along “the journey from ‘cellar rat’ to renowned and respected winemaker.” (Nov.) (Publishers Weekly, November 27, 2006)

5 Star Amazon Reviews

“Women of the Vine by Deborah Brenner is a fascinating read! Each chapter and each story left you with the the feeling of wanting to read more. Eloquently written! I found that every story was interesting, inspiring and quite engaging. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the subjects of wine, women in the wine industry as well as great career stories.”

“This book is a great gift for women, friends and anyone that is pursuing their passion and making a career change. The stories are so inspirational and you learn about wine and the winemaking process in the meantime. It is a very easy and fun read.”

Here’s the set-up:

She has her emotions on a tight leash…Born to a Las Vegas showgirl, fashion designer Faith Fitzgerald’s childhood was not easy, until her father found her and whisked her off to L.A. to join his wealthy family.

The rejection by some of her family members hurt, but Faith has moved on. Or so she thinks. She works hard and never lets her guard down, until the day she discovers that someone stole and sold her designs to her competitor and former mentor. To catch the thief and salvage her collection for Fall Fashion Week, Faith turns to her ex-lover, a man who works under the radar and gets results fast. The problem is she has not seen him since she dumped him so unceremoniously.

He’s laid-back and spontaneous…

When former-FBI-agent-turned-security-consultant Kenneth ‘Ken’ Lambert receives a call from Faith asking for his services, he sees a chance to payback the gorgeous designer for the way she used him then walked out on him. But then he learns that she is being victimized by a man whose idea of love is both dangerous and toxic, Ken pushes aside his personal agenda and agrees to help her.

As their investigation progresses, Ken discovers that Faith’s calm exterior hides a woman of character and strength, a woman on the verge of falling apart. Can he help her find the answers she seeks or will she accept his offer instead—acceptance, unconditional love and support?

TEASER:

“I want to hire you to steal some designs from my competitor’s offices,” she said.
Ken choked on his drink and started to cough. “What?”
“I want to hire you—”
“Jeez, don’t repeat it. I got it the first time.” He looked toward the nearest tables to make sure his voice hadn’t drawn attention. A few people were looking their way. He got up, undid the knot holding the flaps of the cabana entrance, so the white material fell into place, giving them total privacy. He pinned Faith with a hard gaze as he sat.
“Why would you want me to do something like that?” he asked, not masking his shock.
“Because he stole my designs, and I want proof so I can plan my next move.”
The relief that raced through Ken left him light-headed. He gulped his drink, wishing it was something stronger. He glowered at the maddening woman in front of him. Why did she always throw him a curve ball when he least expected it?
“Why didn’t you just say so in the first place?”
She shrugged. “I needed to get your attention…”

Reviews

“I loved this book! I thought the story was presented really well, and I really like the Fitzgeralds! These stories keep you engaged and wanting to find out what happens next. Each story can be read individually or as an entire series, which I think is great. I’ve recommended the Fitzgerald series to so many people since I came across it after reading 50 Shades.” —omgitsJacki

“What a great match Ken was for Faith. I was hoping that he would have his own story and I wasn’t disappointed. There was so much chemistry between them and very hot scenes as well. I readily enjoyed learning alittle more about the Fizgerald family and their history. This was a great read and a keeper. —Maria C. Gutierrez “romance junkie” Visalia, Calif., USA
