4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 3,882 ratings

If you had a second chance with your first love, would you take it?

Ditched by her high school sweetheart, Callum Archer, on the night they're supposed to elope, Jo Kendall casts out on her own, broken-hearted.

Over the years, Jo reels in a life she loves, centered on the outdoors, fishing (favoring a lucky wedding band lure), and her fine dining restaurant—a life that crashes away when her husband and business partner cheats her, leaving her bankrupt and alone.

Then her uncle dies, bequeathing Jo and her sister, Samantha, his rural property. Jo returns to Greenridge, determined to build a new business and permanent home without a man's help. Unfortunately, Samantha wants her inheritance in cold, hard cash and hires a lawyer to get it for her, a lawyer who turns out to be none other than Jo's long-lost love, Callum.

Jo's fledgling plans—and her heart—are in danger once more.

If Jo can fight her insecurities and see through the big lies of someone close to her, she might end up with a wedding band that doesn't come with a sharp hook. But can she risk everything she's worked for, yet again?

Ev Bishop is an award-winning, USA Today bestselling author, best known for her binge-worthy small-town contemporary romances. Readers describe her books as “full of humor, love and wisdom,” set in places “where breathtaking scenery and the magic of love are the best medicine for the soul.”

She is shocked (in the best of ways!) to have fourteen published novels under her belt because writing stories for a living has been her fantasy job ever since she was a little kid. Dreams do come true.

A weird (and delightful—ha-ha!) combination of complete, head-in-the-clouds, always dreaming romantic and hard slogging survivalist-pragmatist, Ev loves the outdoors (especially water), any and all garden-related talk and work, cooking (and eating!), and making all sorts of random things—especially out of upcycled or reclaimed items.

If you like emotionally compelling stories about family relationships, women’s friendships, romance, and the pets who bring us so much joy, you’re going to love Ev Bishop’s worlds. Don’t miss a book!

This was a great book. The author did a wonderful job developing not oly the main characters, Jo and Callum but the other characters as well. Jo & Callum were high school sweet heart and had planned to elope. She showed up, he didn't. She's now returned to town they each realize they still love the other but her sister Samantha and his friend Dave have their own motives for keeping the two apart. Dave is supposed to be Callum's friend and he has a thing for Jo and every time he opens his mouth I just wanted to slug him. I don't remember being so over wrought with a character in a novel. This is the story of Jo and Callum and how they overcome their past and their friends and how their love for each other survives against all odds.

This was a good story. It is one of second chances. Teen lovers they are separated by a jerk of a father and a misunderstanding. The story takes up about 15 years later. She had a rather rough childhood but found salvation in staying with her Uncle in a small town where she had a few friends. One was the hero of the story. he is really different from most of the heroes I read about. He was manipulated by a bully of a father, one who held the purse strings and the threats. Marry that girl and he will cut off all funds. No college, no career, no way to make a living. After all, he is only 19 years old. So, he allows his father to let him go into debt to him for his college and then later for more expensive things so that he will never get out from under him. And so he will have to continue to do as the father tells him to do.

She returns to town to inherit the uncle's property. She will be sharing with her sister. the sister is a first class -itch but for some reason they still seem to get along and she allows the sister to have her way at every turn. The story has a lot of drama, a big surprise at the end and a HEA. it was an interesting read and a good story.

SPOILER - I did get tired of all the hot and cold. through out the story they are on again, off again, on again, off again. it really got tiresome for two people in their early 30's to act so immature. Dave was a complete jerk and there is no nice word for Nina. One has to wonder why anyone would believe a word they said. Again, why would two adults let someone be the go between instead of just talking to the other person? Another thing I don't get is "words just didn't come out of their mouth". It is like a fire in the building but they can't yell, "Fire". I guess I have never been at a loss for words or couldn't find the words to defend myself so it is hard for me to relate. But there were just times when they needed to say something and they just couldn't get the words out so the other person storms off with feelings hurt! I don't get that.

Just random thoughts, the story was interesting and I enjoyed it.

I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and it is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

I loved reading Wedding Bands (River's Sigh B & B Book 1), all about Jo or Josephine a young seventeen year old girl waiting at the bus station for the love of her life Callum Archer to show up and hop the 9:39 bus to head east to start their lives as a married couple. But at 9:37, Jo calls his home and his dad tells her he left an hour ago and went to work, it's now 9:39 and she makes the decision and gets on the bus, with a broken heart. The author wrote a very amazing heart warming story, that will make you think and look back at your life to see if you would do it all over again, or make changes! Now it's 15 years later and she literally runs into Callum Archer as he's her sisters attorney and he wants her to sell the future B & B so her sister Sam can get her rightful share! Read this story and find out what happens to two people who understand each other, like nobody else and see where their life leads them. I was not able to put this book down, and can't wait to read book 2!

I generally enjoy second chance romances, and the prologue to this one sucked me in right away. Jo and Callum are 18 year olds ready to elope (even though that would have probably not been a good idea), but he never shows up at the bus station and Jo leaves town, heartbroken. Fifteen years later they're thrown back together and the sparks are still there.

Both Jo and Callum were (mostly) likable characters. Jo is hard working and self-sufficient, life hasn't been too kind, but she's a bit of a dreamer anyway. Callum is stuck in a career he hates, but he's a nice guy. They both still have feelings for each other, and start to act on them, but other people (namely Dave and Nina) throw some obstacles in their way.

After about the tenth misunderstanding/miscommunication, I began to get frustrated. I kept wanting to scream at both Callum and Jo, "JUST HAVE A CONVERSATION!!!!" Even after all that time spent together, they still believe the lies they're being fed? It took some enjoyment from the story because I kept rolling my eyes.

When I got to the end, it felt a little unfinished. I wanted to see some confrontation between Callum and Dave (who was the WORST best friend ever), but it never happened. Secondly, there was kind of a weird scene will Callum and his mom that felt unresolved. I wanted more details about that.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Much to my relief, the storyline of "Wedding Bands" goes far beyond boy meets girl. Both Jo and Callum have goals and dreams far beyond getting married, which was a nice change. I really identified and loved the "Follow your dreams, not matter what others say" theme that ran through this novel, and the setting--a potential B&B in the B.C. wilderness--was intriguing.

Since it's December, it was nice that Christmas was a part of this book, which actually covers all the seasons. I loved the story of Jo and Callum--bravo to Ms. Bishop for writing such believable, interesting characters. It's not every day you see a romantic heroine in hip waders gutting a fish, but I'd love to see more "unconventional" (i.e. believable) female characters like this in all fiction, not just romance. :)

I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Nothing like a teenage love that disintegrates as our heroine waits at the bus stop to run away with her boyfriend. The boyfriend does not turn up. There was a lost letter. 15 years later and the romance barely gets off the ground through more misunderstandings

5.0 out of 5 stars A strong start to a modern romance series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 13, 2015
Jo and Callum were high school sweethearts. Some years later Jo is throwing everything she has into starting up a B&B in her old home, and Callum is determined to escape the influence of his overbearing father and an ex-wife with a grudge. They've become different people but what they loved about each other remains.

I don't usually read romance because my number one priority is good characters, and with respect to the many talented romance writers out there I often find more stereotypes than I enjoy. This romance caught my attention the first time our hero showed he was a flawed human being--not an Adonis whose only failure is his unerring adoration of our heroine, but a person who has an anxiety attack in front of his sweetheart without fearing it somehow makes him less of a man. More, knowing it's the first in a series had me guessing who might star in the next and I was surprised how much I care about the secondary characters and how much I'd love to read their stories (Caren, please!)

This is a strong beginning to a new series. It's no vapid fairy tale and I recommend it to anyone looking for a modern romance with realistic and complex characters that can carry over into new stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clean easy read

Enjoyed my first book by Ev Bishop, which is the first of a new series. This is a quick & easy read, clean with no swear words or bedroom scenes. It was a little predictable in parts & unbelievable (as in character behaviour) in others.

Jo left Greenridge when her then boyfriend stood her up on the night of their elopement. She made herself a new life, but returned when her Uncle Ray died & left his land & property to Jo & her sister, Samantha. With very little cash left & a failed business behind her, she’s struggling to persuade Samantha to postpone the sale of Ray’s property; Jo wants to open a B&B.

Callum is the hot-shot lawyer whom Samantha’s hired to fight, if she has to, to get Jo to sell. He’s also “the one who got away” - Jo’s ex, who abandoned her at the bus station. Still attracted to each other, but neither wanting a relationship, what with their history & failed marriages. Callum is desperate to give up law & follow his dream to open a bakers.

This story is a lot about miscommunication & misunderstandings. Instead of staying to confront Callum about abandoning her, Jo left the state. Instead of turning up at her house for an answer, Callum sent a letter; one which Jo never got until it was too late. Then there’s the “best” friend, Dave, who’s after the same girl. Even though Jo knew he fancied her, & Callum knew Dave wanted her, I couldn’t believe it when neither Jo nor Callum suspected their “friend” was playing both sides!

She thinks he pities her; he thinks she’s after his money...Throw in the mix, Aisha, a girl who was adopted, but has tracked her birth mother all the way back to Greenridge...Is there any future for Callum & Jo?

This is a standalone book with no cliffhanger. However, book 2 “Hooked” features Callum & Jo (it is a small town) so it’s best to read the series in order.
