Kindle eBook of the Day: Colleen Helme’s CARROTS, just $3.99 on Kindle – The ability to “hear” other people’s thoughts can hurt your feelings. It can even lead you to question your husband’s faithfulness. And sometimes, it can get you killed.

Shelby Nichols is Everywoman until a terrifying trip to the market for carrots leaves her with an uncanny ability that pulls her even deeper into danger … in Colleen Helme’s Carrots4.8 Stars and just $3.99 on Kindle!

Here’s the set-up:

Shelby Nichols is an average woman who is married to the only guy she ever fell for. Her life is organized and predictable, revolving around her husband and two children. All that changes the day she stops at the grocery store for some carrots.

As the cashier rings up her purchases, a gunman is busy robbing the bank inside the store. When a customer grabs the robber’s mask, he is shot and everyone runs for cover. Everyone except Shelby, who finds herself face to face with the killer. The next thing she knows, she’s lying on the floor with a bullet wound to her head.

Luckily, the bullet only grazes her scalp, and she doesn’t suspect any lasting affects until later, when she suddenly ‘hears’ what people are thinking. With this uncanny ability, her life takes on a whole new dimension. Her kids think she’s bossy and too old to understand them, but that’s nothing compared to her husband. He says he loves her, but what is it about the redhead at work that he doesn’t want her to know?

As if that isn’t enough, the gunman knows she can identify him, and he’s out to silence her forever. In her fight to stay alive, she is saved from certain death by a handsome hit-man with ties to organized crime. This pulls Shelby even deeper into danger, where knowing someone’s thoughts can not only hurt your feelings, but get you killed.

From the reviewers:

I loved this book!  “Carrots” is one of my all time favorite books! I loved reading it! Shelby is a wonderful, if a bit frustrating character.

Tons of fun!  I love Carrots, it starts out with a bang and never lets up! Imagine what it would be like to hear people’s thoughts. In some ways it might be cool, but would you really want to know what they’re thinking? Especially about you?

Housewife meets mindreading meets mob – great combo!!!

Colleen has always been fascinated with the idea of magic and as a child pretended she was a princess who could make things happen with just a wave of her wand.

She has since learned that if you want to accomplish anything worthwhile it comes through a lot of hard work and effort. Which isn’t all bad – the secret is to find joy in the journey. That’s real magic!

She lives in Utah with her family and enjoys a good book, drawing, bicycling, and of course, music.

22 out of 25 5-Star Reviews for our 99-cent Kindle eBook of the Day The Gravy Train by David Lender, the hottest new suspense novelist on Kindle

Just 99 cents for The Gravy Train by David Lender, author of Trojan Horse and Bull Street.

Here’s the set-up:
Finn Keane is a novice investment banker who helps an aging Chairman try to buy his company back, while the ruthless Wall Street sharks who drove it into bankruptcy do all they can to stop them so the Wall Streeters can carve it up for themselves.

The Gravy Train is a 50,000 word novella of suspense, about 150 pages long. An excerpt from Bull Street, David Lender’s thriller set on Wall Street during the financial crisis, follows the text of The Gravy Train.

David Lender is the author of the bestselling thriller, Trojan Horse. He writes thrillers set in the financial sector based on his over 25-year career as a Wall Street investment banker. David draws on an insider’s knowledge from his career in mergers and acquisitions with Merrill Lynch, Rothschild and Bank of America for the international settings, obsessively driven personalities and real-world financial intrigues of his novels.

His characters range from David Baldacci-like corporate power brokers to Elmore Leonard-esque misfits and scam artists. His plots reveal the egos and ruthlessness that motivate the players in the financial sector, as well as the inner workings of the most powerful of our financial institutions.

David began writing novels over ten years ago. At one point a friend sent his first novel to a prominent New York literary agent, whose reaction was, “Not bad for somebody who doesn’t know what he’s doing yet.” She introduced David to a seasoned thriller editor and publisher who had edited Robert Ludlum’s first nine thrillers; David spent the next 18 months working with him to learn his craft.

L B Gschwandtner’s The Naked Gardener – 21 5-star reviews and just 99 cents on Kindle! It’s our Kindle eBook of the Day, and Here’s a Free Sample

In her first novel, award winning writer L B Gschwandtner explores the push and pull of love in a subtle yet fulfilling read that leaves one feeling grateful for her circle of friends and the freedom to make the choices that drive our lives.

Here’s the set-up for L.B. Gschwandtner’s The Naked Gardener, just 99 Cents on Kindle:

Artist Katelyn Cross loves Greg Mazur and he loves her. He wants to be married but a previous relationship that went sour has made Katelyn overly cautious about any permanent commitment.

And what about Greg’s first wife? He lost her to cancer and Katelyn worries that he’s only looking for a replacement.

What’s a girl to do? Canoe down a river with five gal pals, camp out, catch fish, talk about life and men. The problem is, a river can be as unpredictable as any relationship and just as hard to manage.

On their last day, when the river turns wild, the women face the challenge of a lifetime and find that staying alive means saving themselves first while being open to help from a most unlikely source.

As Katelyn navigates the raging water, she learns how to overcome her fear of change in a world where nothing stays the same. When Katelyn returns to her garden, she’ll face one more obstacle and the naked gardener will meet the real Greg Mazur.

From the reviewers:

“In her first novel, award winning writer L B Gschwandtner explores the push and pull of love, a woman’s need to maintain her individuality within marriage, and the bonds that can make women stronger even when the world feels as if it’s breaking apart.”

“The characters are appealing, both as individuals and as a group, and I was quickly pulled into their story. 4 strong stars…”

“I would hands down read anything that L. B. Gschwandtner writes.”

“I enjoyed the book, and would recommend it. Now, whenever I see a garden, I’ll probably think, ‘That chick from The Naked Gardner book would be in the buff here.'”

“…the book surprised me in such a great way. Both the writing style combined with the interests and the voice of the book’s main character, Katelyn, spoke to me in a way that seemed incredibly close to life.  The conversations these women have and their reactions to each other were yet again faithful to the way (I believe) many women actually act in real life.”

“… the novel is not really about gardening naked; it is about the freedom to make the choices that drive our lives.”

“I thought The Naked Gardener was a satisfying read with an underlying female empowerment theme. It left me feeling grateful for the circle of female friends I have and desiring a girls’ weekend with them.

L B Gschwandtner is married, the mother of three daughters, and is a writer, magazine editor, artist, and co-owner with her husband of an integrated media business.

She has received prizes from two Writer’s Digest Writing Competitions, one from The Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition, and one of her stories was short listed by the Tom Howard Short Story Contest.

Her work has appeared in various journals includinge Del Sol Review and a prose poem has been included in the anthology “Oil and Water and Other things That Don’t Mix.”

She is the founder of TheNovelette.com, which offers no-fee, themed, short story contests for emerging writers. She lives in Virginia.

From the author:

I’m an avid kayaker (touring) and grew up fishing in the Florida Keys.  Here’s a tidbit of interest. My husband proposed on our first and only date and we were married five weeks later. We lived in Paris, France for a time and now live on a tidal creek where we love to kayak and watch Bald eagles soar past our windows.

Our magical new Free Book Tool has been hard at work while you’ve been sleeping and has unearthed A DOZEN BRAND NEW FREEBIES since last night to add to over 500 Kindle Free Book Alert listings….

But first, a word from … Today’s Sponsor

Kathryn Shay does not shy away from society’s complexity or from barriers to love, as she grapples with a minister who loves an atheist, with a widow and the driver responsible for her racer husband’s death, and with an abuser who returns to town.

TRUST IN ME – just 99 cents for a limited time

“An unusual and compelling tale. I don’t know when I’ve been more involved in a novel’s characters and story.”
–The Romance Reader

Trust in Me
by Kathryn Shay
4.5 out of 5 stars 12 Reviews

Here’s the set-up from Booklist’s Shelley Mosley:

“The Outlaws, a gang of teenage hoodlums, have grown up. Linc, the leader, is now a minister, but his love for his high-school sweetheart, atheist Margo, has never died. Linc’s sister, Beth, is the widow of racecar driver Danny. Tucker, the driver many people (including himself) feel is responsible for Danny’s death, has been asked by the town council to use his fame to revitalize NASCAR’s interest in the area. And Linc’s former best friend, Joe, who’s been divorced by his wife because of his physical and mental abuse, is back in town, rehabilitated but filled with guilt. Inextricably connected as restless youth, their lives become intertwined once again, and these are characters readers will care about. Linc is a human and humane preacher in the tradition of Emilie Richard in The Dragonslayer, and his chats with God run the whole gamut of feelings, particularly concerning Margo. This powerful tale of redemption, friendship, trust, and forgiving shows once again that Shay knows how to pack an emotional wallop.”

Kindle eBook Of The Day: Harry Shannon’s RUNNING COLD – the latest in the popular Mick Callahan mystery series – 4.9 stars from 21 reviews and just $2.99 on Kindle! Read this free sample and you’ll never be able to turn your back on Mick Callahan….

Here’s the set-up for Harry Shannon’s Running Cold, 4.9 stars from 21 reviews and just $2.99 on Kindle:

Media psychologist Callahan is a failed Navy Seal, a recovering alcoholic and a loyal friend. He’s also a man with a hot temper and a talent for getting himself into trouble.
In this brand new adventure, the fourth book in the popular series, Callahan finds himself up against an angry young soldier just home from Afghanistan. Wes McCann’s father is a compulsive gambler and one of Mick’s clients. His brutal murder sets these two dangerous men on a collision course.

“A flawed and edgy hero. Dark wit, excellent writing and action-packed pace.”—The Rap Sheet, January Magazine

And don’t miss this great deal on the first three books in the series!
4.8 Stars from 28 reviewers!

From the reviewers:

“Mick Callahan is a man with a past, a mean right hook, and a radio talk show. He’s pretty good at giving people advice – just not necessarily good at taking it. The strength of this series is in its central characters, flawed, human, often funny, sometimes tragic, and the relationships among them.”—Mystery Scene

“Mick Callahan is not only likeable (as deemed by Library Journal) but he manages to endear himself as a very realistic hero, with a strong sense of purpose and an equal dash of vulnerability.”—Cemetery Dance

“Mick’s road to redemption is wry, bittersweet and altogether touching.”

Harry Shannon has been an actor, a singer, an Emmy-nominated songwriter, a recording artist in Europe, a music publisher, a VP of Carolco Pictures and worked as a free-lance Music Supervisor on films such as ‘Basic Instinct’ and ‘Universal Soldier.’

He holds an MA in Psychology and is currently a counselor in private practice. Although primarily a novelist, Shannon has sold stories to a number of genre magazines including ‘Cemetery Dance,’ ‘Horror Garage,’ ‘City Slab,’ ‘Crime Spree’ and ‘Gothic.net.’ He contributed a 25,000 word mystery/horror novella to a recent Cemetery Dance limited-edition collection called ‘Brimstone Turnpike,’ as well as short fiction to several horror anthologies, including ‘Tales from the Gorezone,’ ‘Small Bites,’ ‘The Fear Within,’ and ‘On Dangerous Ground,’ a new anthology of western noir edited by veteran author Ed Gorman.

Shannon’s first signed limited edition short story collection ‘BAD SEED’ debuted in June of 2001. His debut horror novel ‘NIGHT OF THE BEAST’–the first in a pulp trilogy set in northeastern Nevada–was released in 2002. The acclaimed ‘NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF’ won the small-press Tombstone Award for Best Novel of 2003. The final book, a 2005 Delirium Books limited edition of ‘NIGHT OF THE DAEMON,’ sold out in pre-order. These ‘Night’ books are currently out of print but remain available on Kindle.
