Nashua’s Choice (Nashua Chronicles)

by Donna Cook

Text-to-Speech and Lending: Enabled
Here’s the set-up:

When the Phoenix brings its egg of ash to the Rock of Light, a magical community is turned upside down and Nashua must choose between duty and desire.

Award-winning author Donna Cook presents this first installment of the Nashua Chronicles, which take place in the years before the fantasy adventure, Gift of the Phoenix. Nashua’s Choice is a short novella, while Gift of the Phoenix is a full-length novel. The two may be read in any order.

Excerpt:

“Let me see,” Sage Inne says.

Still on the floor, Nashua did not notice Sage Inne’s approach. Nashua does not move.

“Nashua. Let me see.”

Nashua opens her quaking hands but keeps the stones close. Their beauty alone is enough to make one stare. The others tentatively gather round.

Nashua watches Sage Inne kneel and stare at the stones, fiercely luminous. Sage Inne reaches out her hand. In the space that exists between the stones and the waiting hand of Sage Inne, Nashua senses a trembling warning.

She gathers the stones closer to her body, enclosing them in her embrace. A collective gasp escapes the group, excepting Sage Inne who remains still as stone and a man who cries “Insolence!”

It happens in an instant.

He steps forward, his intent to deliver the stones to Sage Inne himself clear.
Nashua flinches away and Sage Inne raises her hand in warning, bringing the man to a halt.

Only an instant, but Nashua’s heart flails against her chest. He may as well have been after her head.

Here’s the set-up:

If you think PTA meetings are boring, then you haven’t attended one in Barbara Marr’s neighborhood, where MURDER is on the agenda. Always one to stumble into trouble, Barb learns the hard way that a seemingly innocent yearbook scandal is actually part of a more sinister and deadly plot.

Books in the series: Take the Monkeys and Run (#1), Citizen Insane (#2), Silenced by the Yams (#3), and Saturday Night Cleaver (#4)

5-star praise for Citizen Insane:

Laugh out loud funny!
“Just the right mix of humor and suspense. Great characters with personalities much like the friends of all “soccer moms”. Love the references to real women life issues….”

She’s Insane Again
The PTA will never be the same once Barbara Marr attends a meeting. In this follow up to the riotous Take The Monkeys and Run, Barb once again gets herself into scrape after escalating scrape and comes out with a grin on her face and her sense of humor intact. And guess what? She does the same for the reader…”

About The Author

I have been writing plays and short stories for many years, some of which are published in short story collections. My first novel and first book in the Barbara Marr series, Take the Monkeys and Run, is a comedy-mystery. It was inspired, to some degree by a true monkey sighting in my own neighborhood.

Because I love to laugh as well as make other people laugh, I have great fun writing the character Barbara Marr, along with her friends and adversaries. When I set out to write this book, I knew I wanted to write something that readers would say, “Now that was FUN.”

The three other books in the Barbara Marr series are: Citizen Insane, Silenced by the Yams, and Saturday Night Cleaver.

What do you believe?

John Arrowsmith is beginning a supernatural journey and before it’s over: people will be healed, a priest will regain his faith, a new Christian movement will begin, a woman will find love, a man will die, and the world will meet the real Jesus for the first time.

Arrowsmith is an ex-cop at the bottom of his life looking for a way up. Plagued by dreams and visions, he is desperately trying to make sense of his life when an ex-girlfriend from a past failed romance appears demanding his help and carrying a religious manuscript called the Gospel of Jesus that will transform Christianity.

To make matters worse, Arrowsmith isn’t even sure he is doing the right thing. From everything he can surmise, this Gospel of Jesus is either heaven sent or hell sent, and he isn’t sure which. All he does know is that the manuscript has to be delivered to an authentication conference in two days, and there are some very determined people that will do anything to stop that from happening.

5-Star Amazon Reviews

“This book catches your attention from the first page to the last. The caterers are believable and the plot is suspenseful. I found it hard to put down and could not wait for my next opportunity to read the rest. Every twist and turn keeps you from putting the book down. Can’t wait for the next book.”

“I was captivated by the story line almost from the beginning. I was drawn in by the battle between the forces of evil and the Kingdome of God. It has made me almost wish that there was a real copy of the Gospel of Jesus so I could read it. this would make a great movie.”

One Reviewer Notes:
I have the 2012 version of this User's Guide, and wish I had discovered it earlier. Since the Kindle is constantly evolving and being upgraded, it's a good idea to download this 2013 version and check it out, even if you have the old one. You may learn about some new "bells and whistles!" I found this version better and more user-friendly than the User's Guide that comes with the Kindle, and that is downloaded to your device when you first sign in.

Here’s the set-up:

An Alejandro “Cooch” Cuchulain Novel
The second in the Cooch series of national security techno-thrillers

Blend a dollop of Enlightenment history and philosophy for the lawyers and history buffs, a skosh of cool technology for the geekish, and a smidgen of business for the Wall Street crowd. Add to a boiling cauldron of passion and violence. Sprinkle with strong dialog and wit. Stir vigorously. Shazaam! Tomorrow’s headlines today, in Patriot and Assassin.

Patriot and Assassin places the protagonist, Alejandro ‘Cooch’ Cuchulain, at the heart of a plot to release nerve gas in one of our nation’s busiest stadiums, then later into the sadistic hands of the terrorist who planned that attack.

Cooch leads a Rhodes Scholar former Seal, a stunning MacArthur winning physicist, a former USMC Master Sniper and the former director of the CIA’s special operations unit, now working in the White House. Together, they engage a large contingent of Al-Qaeda, among others, while working to improve the life of Muslims.

Inspired by Arab Spring evidence that Middle Eastern culture will be transformed positively when Muslims are convinced that transformation is in their self-interest, Patriot and Assassin uses the proven lessons of the Enlightenment to expedite that transformation. More than simply sex and violence advance the story. Patriot and Assassin incorporates strong character development and powerful, thoughtful dialogue to drive this politico-thriller at a breakneck pace.

The team neither disdains violence on this journey to improve, nor avoids using the latest technology to make both the journey and the violence easier. Action flows seamlessly from Texas to Washington to Morocco to Yemen and back.
Former CIA warrior Cuchulain is a strong male protagonist working with a dynamic female protagonist in Dr. Caitlin O’Connor. This thriller brings a fresh dynamic to the genre. Patriot and Assassin positions itself as the thriller for thoughtful readers interested in observing strong, complex characters meeting complex world-wide challenges.

“If you like to get lost in another world this is a book for you, the characters and settings are described so vividly it’s easy to imagine being there. Couldn’t put it down.”
