Here's the set-up:
Masha and Thomas Page are friends for life. Masha with a grandmother who
summons earthquakes and silences storms, and Thomas with a thirst for
adventure. When their neighbor is kidnapped by a dark stranger, they
follow her into a world where sleep, dreams, winter, the weather, and
wishes are realized as characters in an epic adventure.
Along their journey they encounter the King of Sleep, the Queen of Winter, underground palaces, windswept deserts, ancient treasures, airships, ruined cities, creatures of stone that come to life, a woman who controls the weather, a knife that cuts through time, underground creatures obsessed with soup, and the semi-immortal Sun King.

One Reviewer Notes:
Stormwinter is a truly unique and imaginative novel. I've been reading it with my 14 year old and we both absolutely love it. It is well written and blends fantasy, mythology and drama into a gripping narrative with a varied cast of deep and interesting characters. The plot is sophisticated and still accessible for readers of all ages, with many unexpected twists and turns. Highly recommended to any fan of fantasy and adventure!

Since she never did find the story she was looking for all those years ago, she decided to write it.
