  • This was one of the best books I have read in months. it was full of action right from the very beginning until the very end. A fast and furious plot that involved the search for the Romanov jewels, stolen nuclear bombs, espionage, and romance. I felt it could rival the best and most famous authors of action/adventure, spy thrillers...Lynne.

This is an excellent thriller novel. The locations and villains are exotic, the hero has just enough back story and flaws to be interesting. The usual shadowy 'good guy' paramilitary organization is equipped and ready to send whatever the hero and his talented group of buddies need to overcome the nefarious plot the villains have devised to take over the world. The action is nonstop and well described in bloody detail. It is a great choice for a trip or a leisurely weekend.

Richard Turner's "Goliath" is a fast-paced adventure novel that echoes some of Clive Cussler's books. It, like Cussler's books, has the same global reach though his characters don't rely on quite as many gadgets. Both authors, however, have intriguing heroes, villainous villains and plots that are just a shade away from tomorrow's headlines. In "Goliath" we have an oil baron seeking immense power and though that's certainly not unusual - especially these days - his plan for obtaining that power is, while a little far-fetched, certainly within the realm of possibility. I won't spoil the story by telling you what it is but suffice it to say it helps give Turner's book an edgy feel.
Like Cussler and other writers in this genre, Turner's heroes are just short of superhuman. That is to say they can sustain a few broken bones and the occasional gunshot wound yet still manage to carry out their missions. That doesn't trouble me: If you pick up a book in this genre you expect the heroes to be, well, heroic in that classical sense and his are that. Like ancient Greek heroes - not to mention modern cinematic ones - they must undergo severe challenges that would flatten ordinary people and still come out on top. That, after all, is what makes them heroes.
If I have a criticism it's the number of typos that appear throughout the book and the occasional misuse of words. In one instance, for example, one of the characters tells another that a bomb could not be "diffused." What the character meant, of course, is that the bomb could not be "defused." The fast pace of the narrative, however, allowed me to forgive most of these problems.
Looking for a book to ease the pain of another seemingly endless flight or a long layover in a busy airport? I'd recommend "Goliath" as a good way to pass the time.

Immediately hooked me as a reader. The story flows from very dangerous event to extremely dangerous event, with gruesome killing throughout. With exaggerated characters and unrealistic dialogue, the story is about the skills and extreme abilities of a US private military contractor team that kills for good. I predict a violent PG movie based on this book will arrive soon. If I had children, my guidance would be: "Find something gentler to do with your time."

Amazing teamwork gets folks out of life or death situations. Millions of lives at stake, experience gives the team what's needed. Constant suspense about who'll live or die.
Hard to put down.

Goliath (A Ryan Mitchell Thriller Book 1)  is a great mystery thriller. I finished its 350 pages in two days. The action is paced in a way that the tension is constant even when the characters are taking the necessary recovery time. Throughout the story the tension swings by turns from constant to intense to extremely intense. For the most part, the choreography of various fight scenes and actions scenes is well done, clear and easy to follow. Richard Turner shares the need-to-know details about weapons and technology in a manner that keeps this information from being too wordy or slowing down the movement of the story.

The author has the gift of introducing you to characters with enough unique details that as the plot progresses you care about what happens to them. While I hope to see some of them more fleshed out in the next book, I found myself connecting to them as I saw and heard them in action.

'There were some comments from other reviewers about the primary villains not having enough depth, and yet, I picked up on what was not said about them, and there were enough examples of their good side via their interactions with one another to satisfy me. In truth, I didn’t really care to sympathize too much with them.

I highly recommend this book as one to be added to your “Great Escapes Reading List.” I’m looking forward to the next Ryan Mitchell installment.

This was a bit like a Clive custler novel for me. That’s a compliment by the way! Too much military and violence for my taste. Well written tho. No body on the good team died. Not believable.

Book #1, in the Ryan Mitchell thrillers

After reading the first few chapters that set the stage you fall into a fat-paced and very violent thriller. If you do not like guts and blood and people being killed this intense drama is not for you but if you love never ending action and extreme suspense you will enjoy this one. This thriller is not for everyone but it was mine and I loved it.

In a few words:

Ryan Mitchell, a former special operative is drawn into the race to find the Goliath and her hidden secret and with his team must protect Jennifer March from the deadly and well- finance group that intends to change the world.

My views:

This plot is totally unbelievable but very exciting to follow. Put aside your disbelief and enjoy the ride you will find yourself in a rollicking adventure from cover to cover. This far-fetched drama that brings us around the world is difficult to put down. There is a lot going on and the suspense will kill you (not really) I was flipping the pages at a rapid pace to see how the team will get out of their predicaments…they always did with a bang and a lot of blood. The writing style is very graphic and focuses mainly on action leaving character development aside. For a hard boiled thriller we find neither profanity nor sex scenes. Finally, all this wraps up neatly and this international kidnapping and terrorist saga leaves us with an unexpected surprise……

This is a wild and crazy read I enjoyed immensely
