Waves of Desire: A Contemporary Romance Novel (Holidays Beach Read Book 4) Kindle Edition

3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 46 ratings

When everything is wonderful a woman shows up with a little boy, claiming he is yours...

Life is good in sunny Seaside Heights, Florida. Sage and Derek continue to split their time between his seaside cottage and the loft above her bookstore, Sequels. Between frolicking surf sessions and equally rigorous sets in and out of each other’s beds, life couldn’t get much better for the loving couple. But that bond is tested when Dana, a woman from Derek’s past shows up on his doorstep one day, bearing a little boy named Archie. But Archie isn’t just any little boy, he’s Derek’s long lost son - one he never knew he had.

Now Sage and Derek must grapple with their own relationship while struggling to help Dana, a struggling alcoholic, find sobriety, all while learning how to be parents to adorable little Archie. With Dana away in rehab, Sage and Derek settle down to play house. But can their carefree lifestyle absorb the added responsibility - and sex-free nights- of raising a precocious toddler? And what happens when Dana emerges from rehab, clean, sober and sexy as hell? Once again, it’s up to Sage and Derek to struggle with life’s capricious whims and endure, their love life stronger - and hotter- on the other side.

I was born in Miami and as I became of age moved to the east coast and studied in one of the Ivy league schools.

A few years later I became a senior partner in a major law firm located in New York City, my current residence and the best city in the world.

When I am not looking for love, I write about it.

The stories are based on my own experience; the men described are people I have actually met in other circumstances.

I use the pen name Lori Ann Mitchell (it rhymes with my real name) as I can’t reveal my true identity due to my career.

Didn’t get to read the third book in this series, but to be honest, I don’t think I really needed to. The Waves of Desire book to me seems like it is a stand-alone book, even if it is not. Waves of Desire is a quick read. I feel like the further I get into the series, the better the writing gets and the more the books seem to be edited. Derek gets a surprise visit by an ex-girlfriend who claims she had a son by him. It throws everyone off, but somehow they all manage to make it work. Sage accepts the situation rather well, which shocks me, as if I was in that situation – I would be freaking out. She is mature beyond her years. Despite everything that happens in Waves of Desire, Derek and Sage manage to stay together and end up coming out stronger than they were before. Instead of being jealous of Derek’s ex-girlfriend, she chooses to be the bigger person and help her sober up, get clean and even takes care of Dana’s son while she’s getting herself back on track.

The book is short and sweet. To be honest, there is not a whole lot to say about it – I did enjoy the book, the writing (and editing) continues to improve, but the book is very short. Honestly, I think I would enjoy the “Waves of…” series a lot better if it was all one book.

Regardless of that, I would still recommend Waves of Desire. It has a decent storyline, an interesting twist, and a nice ending.

I really enjoyed reading this book. And, I suspect all fans of the romance genre will love having a nibble on this one also!

This is one of the better romance stories I have read recently. The author actually tells a story, rather than just fill the pages with raunchy sex and dialogue.

As usual with my reviews, I’m giving nothing away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery!

A highly recommended read!

Derek and Sage continue their romance in Lori Ann Mitchell’s “Waves of Desire”. Book 4 in this intriguing series, this takes Derek and Sage even further into the realms of honesty and love, all set against the backdrop of sleepy little Seaside Heights, Florida.
Like other books in this collection, I was struck by the maturity of Sage, her honesty – both with herself and with Derek. Sometimes I wondered what she saw in him as the pairing often felt odd or even mismatched, but just like in life, love doesn’t always make sense. Derek is handsome, young and talented – a surfer who has pulled Dana away from her reclusive life into an existence of adventure, exploration and discovery. They are an interesting pair, and when Dana floats in with Archie, Derek’s son, that dynamic just gets more complex.

My first thought is this: why offer a free book when it's the 4th in a series? I saw that this was the 4th book but thought it would be a standalone novella not a continuation of the same couple's story. The story begins with the H/h having sex and while I enjoy steamy sex scenes, this one just felt dirty and raunchy. It's most likely because I had no background into this couple so again, I ask why offer this book free?

This 80 page novella, in my opinion, is just bizarre. You get some inside info about the H/h relationship so that helped. However, Derek's inner dialogue about sex was disturbing. As well as the fact that he so easily accepted a woman from his past showing up with a child that she says is his? I should have just stopped reading it but I guess I just kept thinking it would get better or make sense to me. It did not. What a waste of time but good thing it was only a novella. I have no interest in reading about this couple from what I got in this book....too bizarre and raunchy for me.

As far as romances are concerned, I am not always up on series that capture the imagination. However, Waves of Desire has been one of those that keep me coming back for more. The breezy nature aside, there is a lot of characterization found throughout the book. It’s a bit of romance, but not so much that you lose the plot points, or narrative. This is a hot book, but it’s part of a larger series that really is compelling to denote. If you’re a fan of romance, here’s another shot in the proverbial arm. I recommend it.

I AM ALWAYS SURPRISED THAT THE BOOKS I'VE DOWNLOADED FROM YOU ARE POORLY EDITED WITH INCORRECT GRAMMAR. SUCH AS 'BETWEEN YOU AND I' WHICH SHOULD BE 'BETWEEN YOU AND ME'. ETC. MAYBE YOU SHOULD EMPLOY A PROOFREADER.

This is not a stand alone book. It's the fourth book of the series about the same couple. It's like a month in the life of their relationship in 80 pages. Everything seemed skimmed over. The writing was good, but there was no deepening of their relationship.

Then there were the things that bothered me. She pays for everything even though it's his child. She even paid for the ex's rehab. They're constantly drinking and complain when they can't drink. He is constantly tempted into sleeping with the ex, but since he doesn't act on it they all seem to think it's okay. He's very hard to trust. I kept wondering why he was in a committed relationship if he wanted to be with the closest women at the moment.

I didn't read all of the reviews. I mostly saw there were a lot of five stars. Of the ones I read they seemed to have read the other books in the series. Maybe that made a difference, but I'm not tempted to read any more.
