The Ancient Order: A Bud Hutchins Supernatural Thriller (Bud Hutchins Supernatural Thrillers Book #0.5) by J.B. Michaels is a prequel. Bud Hutchins does not appear in the story as he has not yet been born. So, I'm still not sure what the series is about. However, the story presented is interesting.

With the history of the spreading of Christianity in ancient Roman times as background, author J. B. Michaels take on the role even the Romans played in doing so midst a mostly pagan world and its pagan practises.
It is quite the eye opener to note the dogged persistance of Centurion Magnus originally to attack a Pict tribe and exact revenge for having apparently killed a evangelical Roman group. That is, until the supernatural nature of the original offenders became evident.
A very interesting insight on the establishment of the Ancient order of St. Michael as prequel to the further books in this Bud Hutchins series.

I wasn't sure what to think when I first began reading this book, because I was only familiar with the children's books of JB Michaels and this was a new experience. I soon found that his talent as a writer is broad and easily extends to an adult audience as well. I liked the different themes in this book, the early beginnings of belief in Christianity emerging in a pagan world, and thought there was just enough supernatural and magical elemets to make it interesting without going overboard into the territory of ridiculous.

The characters are the kind that you want to get to know better and that leave you wondering about where they will go int the future. I found myself when I reached the end of this book, lamenting that it was not longer and looking forward to reading more about the characters in the future. They are written with passion and the ususal creativity of this author, which is really not usual at all, in today's market of anyone can publish anything.

This is a great book for anyone that likes adventure stories with a bit of mystery and history thrown in. I was impressed and encourage others to check out this book and the other works by this author. He truly has a talent for story telling.

I've long been a fan of ancient Britain. The age-old battle between the Romans and the Celts has often intrigued me. Being a huge fan of the Bud Hutchins series, I was thrilled to read this prequel story of the formation of The Order of St. Michael. This story is steeped in the same mystique that draws me to stories of these battle-hardened warriors. As I was reading, I could feel the fog-shrouded forests around me and see the misty fields that were the backdrop to these tales of old. JB Michaels has done an excellent job of evoking the mystery and magic that surrounded these mystical characters. As an added bonus, the background content included at the end, was very entertaining and informative. The author gives a bit of insight into each of the books in the series and I found it added depth to the overall experience. Thank you, JB, for once again giving us an entertaining, riveting and unique story in the Bud Hutchins supernatural series.

I am a fan of Michaels's work, and love Bud Hutchins. Each story is wonderfully complex and thrilling. I never have any expectations when starting a book, but I was immediately pulled in. Yes, this was a definite page-turner, thrilling until the end. I like the way Michaels blends the supernatural and history in his stories, and this one, is ancient history. Magnificent story and Hutchins has this thing about him that brings life to the story. A fight of good versus evil in a twisted and tantalizing thrilling adventure. I love this story, and will always read what Michaels writes, especially when the lead is Hutchins.

Well written, captivating story outlining the historic battle between the Celts and the Romans. It focuses on the spreading of Christianity during ancient Roman times and offers interesting insight into how the Order of St. Michael was formed. Fans of Spartacus Blood and Sand and 300 would fall in love with this work. I liken the Centurion, Magnus, to the powerful leader, Leonidas although a few lines sound a bit like more modern times.
A lot of time and research went into this work and it shows. A very interesting and enjoyable read.
