From the Author
"What are you doing out here all by yourself?" The guy stopped at the back edge of the car and turned his head left then right in quick succession.
The parking lot lights hit his face at just the right angle to illuminate his copper eyes with lashes so long that I shivered. Butterfly kisses. I imagined the light touch of those lashes skimming over my face or anywhere on my body. I didn't want to take my eyes off of him, but just that thought made my gaze wander slowly down his entire muscular body. His blue--or was it black?--T-shirt stretched tight over his broad chest, emphasizing the word Zeal. I didn't know if it was just a word he liked, or if it was the band my father had signed. I continued my obvious assessment, holding the gun as steady as my trembling hand would allow while my eyes landed on his faded, worn jeans that hung low on his hips, tattered at the knees.
"None of your business. What do you want?" I asked.
He took one step closer, and I whipped my hand around, aiming the gun at him.
He backed away, raising his hands to shoulder height, and as he did, his T-shirt lifted, exposing a small area just above his belt that made me suck in air.
"I'm not going to hurt you. I was just looking for my brother. He said he would be down here practicing." His voice was calm, and his relaxed shoulders told me he wasn't frightened at all.
I slanted my head to one side and a bead of sweat slid down my temple.
"I'm serious. Put the gun away. I'm not going to hurt you. I go to school here," he said in a husky tone.
"Prove it." My voice was calm and steady, which shocked me. I wasn't convinced this dude was a high school student. He looked older.
He laughed, a deep, throaty sound that caressed my skin as though his tongue were licking every inch of my body. "And how do you suggest I do that?" He still had his hands in the air, revealing his taut skin above the waist of his jeans, causing tingles to spark inside me.
The bright lights of the ball field suddenly went off, the area around us darkening. He used those seconds to make his move.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2015Summary
Besides her family, Lacey Robinson’s only other love is baseball. She’s on top of the world when Arizona State University approaches her to discuss a scholarship. To play for a college boys’ team is beyond what she has ever dreamed. Her fastball is impeccable, her slider equally as good, and her curveball annihilates anyone who dares to step in the batter’s box. But fate has its own way of throwing curveballs. When she loses her mother and sister to a home invasion, baseball and her dreams die with them. Tragedy has a way of seeping deep into her psyche, causing nightmares, panic attacks and blackouts. Diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, her psychiatrist recommends a change of scenery and picking up the things that she loved to do, and for Lacey that is baseball.
After a move clear across the country, only two things matter to Lacey—overcome her PTSD and make Kensington High’s baseball team. But trying out for the team comes with complications—the captain, Aaron Seever, doesn’t want a girl on the team.
Adding to her new life, she never counted on meeting someone who wants her as badly as Kade Maxwell. The tall, sexy and drool-worthy bad boy has a magical touch that awakens her feminine side, and a kiss that slowly erases her nightmares. But getting involved with him may be dangerous when Kade’s arch-nemesis returns to town to settle a vendetta.
To complicate matters, her PTSD has taken a turn for the worse. She has to find a way to push away the demons otherwise she may not have a chance at anything in life.
What I loved:
Every now and then, a story comes along that just hits you. Like an immediate gut stab. Dare to Kiss, hit my gut hard and beautifully. The characters, even though in high school, experienced things that most may never experience in a lifetime. Lacey and Kade have a connection that is not typical for high school these days. It is more reminiscent of a different time when high school sweethearts were bred.
Lacey-Determined. Courageous. Smart. Short-tempered. Kick-ass ball player. These are the words I think of immediately when I think of Lacey Robinson. I connect with Lacey in many ways. Being relatable in a story that deals with such an extremely delicate condition like PTSD took careful and deliberate work. S.B. took a mental issue that plagues so many people and brought it to the forefront. Lacey fights her way through many different obstacles, but she doesn’t always do it perfectly and this makes her human. I can’t wait to see more from this powerful survivor.
Kade-Playboy. Angry. Responsible. Brothers. Protective. These words apply to Kade Maxwell. Kade is the hot bad boy at school. He is viciously protective of his family, and now Lacey. He has his own demons that Lacey helps him heal as well. I really won’t give anything away because you need to read this story, but Kade is the high school guy we all wish we had. His heart is so big but he needs to be reminded of that. He is an important part of helping Lacey realize her dreams.
What I didn’t Love:
It ended. And I am impatient and have to wait for book 2. I want more Kade and Lacey and I want it now! LOL
Overall:
Everyone who has ever experienced a life-altering event, should read this story. It gives hope and its a testament to a woman’s determination, whether 18 or 50. Also, Lacey can play baseball better than most of the guys on the team. You can’t help but root for her. Remember that there is always help for any type of mental illness. Please seek it.
**Note** There is a poem at the end of this book written by Wendy Kupinewicz. Read it. Think about it and yourself, then read it again. Beautifully written. Thank you for sharing with the world.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2015This was a really great and moving story. Lacey Robinson and her father move all the way across the country for her senior year of high school. After the tragedy of her mother and sister being killed and her finding the bodies, she has PTSD, has nightmares, and panic attacks. While practicing on the field her pitching with her first friend in town, she runs into Kade Maxwell and their first meeting is incredibly memorable.
Lacey has her father and her older brother that are the remaining members of her family. Rob, her brother, is still in LA running their father's nightclub. He had a chance at a major baseball career but the death of members of his family changed all that. Their father has started a new club in Cambridge and has been working hard to get it going but also keeps himself busy because of his loss. He's somewhat of an absent father. Lacey has dreamed for playing on a boys baseball team and to be one of the women on a college boys' baseball team. She's an awesome and amazing pitcher. She used to be even better but after the tragedy, she stopped playing baseball for a year and her PTSD causes her some problems when she is stressed. She doesn't feel that she can have a relationship when all her energy needs to be for baseball and her last boyfriend ended up being gay and left her for her best friend. The boys baseball team at her new school hasn't had a girl on their team in a couple of years since something horrible happened to a girl from the team. There are a couple of guys that set out to hurt Lacey and stop her from being on the team.
Kade is an older brother to 3 triplets - Kody, Kross, and Kelton. They were sent to an academy after an incident in their freshman year and now they are back for their last year (and since they tested out of junior year). They are a tight family that also experienced tragedy. Kade and the triplets are great baseball players but Kade hasn't played since all that happened. He's gorgeous, strong, fiercely protective, and incredibly smart. Lacey has caused him to be intensely interested in getting to know her and see how things go. She surprises him and keeps him on his toes. But he does what he can to protect her and keep her with him. One of his worst enemies comes back and tries to start and keep causing all kinds of trouble.
Definitely worth reading and looking forward to reading Dare to Dream.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2024All aspects of this story were well balanced. Great characters with some bullies to contend with, a heart-breaking past that was difficult for the lead character to live with. A passion for baseball that was like the carrot dangling before Lacey’s eyes. Well done Ms. Alexander.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing first book!
This book had all the emotions for me!
I absolutely loved the characters and the development of them in such a short period of time.
However I think the the cover page is so far away from the main characters it is untrue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Found this series by accident
Found by accident but not disappointed. At times when books start out good then rushes to an end make it feel unfulfilled... not this series... love it. Thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt
What a heartfelt story! Emotional and full of smutt tension. Lace and Kade are just a magnificent couple. Love at first sight, healing each other from there past experiences. Fabulous! Looking forward to reading more about them! Would have liked some PoV's from Kade but looks like it's in Dare to Dream...

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow what a GREAT book!
From beginning to end I had anger, tears, laughter and hope (mostly hope) for the young people and Parents in this Novel. The storyline is fantastic I hadn't realized some colleges were excepting women on their baseball teams. This was a story of the work the female lead had to do and I don't just mean getting on the team. Her past is so heavy and one I would not wish on my worst enemy. This is of a coming of age book that I just loved!

4.0 out of 5 stars A cute and fluffly read that has really meaningful characters! Loved it!
Dare to Kiss follows Lacey as she stuggles to cope with her PTSD and threats that joining an all boys baseball team produce. It is the first book in the Maxwell series and was a fast paced and fluffy read that completely gripped me so much so that I found it hard to put down. Yes, there were times when I felt that it was a little cheesy and perhaps slightly predictable. Yet I had this encouraging feeling that was pushing me to finish it as I just had to see how it ended.
As I mentioned before there were times when the story became a little predictable and I did feel that sometimes Lacey would get slightly teen angsty about certain things but none of this took away the cute and fluffy feelings that I was getting from this novel. The story was very fast paced and while there were times when I felt that it would jump from on problem to another or that Lacey and Kade had the cheesy insta love, that is always present in new adult contemporaries, It still didn't take away how much I was enjoying this book. It was just so easy to get lost in the characters and story. It was just what I needed and I had the strange urge not to put it down, which lead to me reading the book in one sitting.
When it came to the characters within the novel, I couldn't help but love each and every one of them. TheyI loved the Maxwell brother's bond and how close they were. Not to mention I loved Lacey's relationship with her dad. It was flawed but it showed much more deeper connections and how grief can help connect people but also change people. No one was perfect in the story, they all had their flaws but that just added to drama and made the story a lot darker but also more realistic. It was a unique way to connect the characters and I loved seeing each of them grow throughout it. all had their problems which made them more realistic and they all had a really strong connection to each other.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and it will forever be special to me, just because it helped pull me out of my slump. The characters, while predictable, were the best part because each one showed a deeper meaning then others I have previously read before. The only thing that sorta stumped my love for this book was how it would be a tad over dramatic at times and sometimes jump from one drama to the next. Like there wasn't any time for these characters to be happy. Not to mention the relationship between Lacey and Kade was a little insta-love but then what do you expect from a new adult contemporary. All in all, Dare to Kiss was a highly cheesy but scrumptiously sweet read that make you feel all mushy while also educate you on the troubles of grief and dangers of PTSD. I loved it and will definitely be continuing on with the series to see how the relationship unfolds.
