But after a dead body takes a swan dive right in front of her and she learns a missing six-year-old girl is caught in the aftermath, Emily's heart sends her from barrel racing to paralegal work in a hurry.
As she and Jack interrogate the young girl's tight-lipped mother, a string of strange coincidences don't seem to add up. When sparks fly between her and her boss and dead ends start to become dead bodies, the race to save the girl comes down to the wire. Can Emily and Jack decipher their feelings and the contradictory clues before they become the next victims?

Kudos to author Pamela Fagan Hutchins! I hope to meet you someday in Nowheresville or Snowheresville!
What I found was a very engaging, entertaining story with plenty of drama and emotion. I love the animals in the story, especially Snowflake, a little white bundle of dog energy who is always happy to greet you! And although I'm not a horse person myself, I can tell that the author has lived with and loved horses, and horses play a significant role in the story.
As a guy, I find it intriguing from time to time to read a story from a feminine perspective. I feel it helps increase my insight into how my wife and other female friends see the world. This story definitely does that, revealing the heart of a recently betrayed woman going through the existential pain of betrayal and pending divorce while facing assorted other physical and emotional challenges. These problems provide a backdrop to the tension of a steadily escalating mystery investigation, blended with bonus insights into the very real-world problems of illegal immigration and the assortment of crimes and heartbreaks that have grown up around it.
The entire story takes place in a "Southwestern US" setting of ranches, small towns, native Americans, cowboys, and Tex-Mex food. There is even some flying -- one of my loves -- in the story! All in all, a very enjoyable read.
