Jay Got Married Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

"Jay Got Married" consists of 9 humorous and, sometimes, poignant essays chronicling the ironies of everyday life in word and picture. Take for example the lead essay, aptly titled, "Jay got Married," where I find myself mired in a horrendous dream. In the fantasy, my aging father--dressed in his favorite Champion t-shirt with stains covering the front--marries my wife and I like he did 42 years ago but, this time around, the my 92-year-old ex-clergy dad forgets his lines causing me to coach him through the event with hints like: "the rings, the rings." All the while, my best man sings Sonny and Cher's, "I Got You Babe."
Finally married, my wife and I end the ceremony with a kiss. But as I turn to exit, my eyes catch a glimpse of the bridesmaid who is no longer my wife's best friend but now Gal Gadot from Dell Comics and Wonder Woman Fame. She is dressed in full Wonder Women regalia and looks totally shocked by the whole affair. My mother turns to my father (who was then in attendance in the audience) with a quizzical look and says, “Dad, look at that bridesmaid. Isn’t that Superman?” She doesn't get out much.
As we exit the church, and the rice flies, my wife ignores the limo and takes off on a sleek motorcycle, leaving me in the lurch--hence the cover.
Sure, it's crazy. But, in truth, what would one do when faced with the prospect of losing their beloved wife after 42 years. At age 67, would they remarry? Would they even want to remarry? In another James Robinson, Jr. fantasy, would they once again be paired up with Wonder Woman, in a surprise ending? These and other hot-button issues are answered in: "Jay Got Married."

James Robinson, Jr. is an award-winning author who has written 9 books in both the fiction and non-fiction genres.

His first book, Fighting the Effects of Gravity: A Bittersweet Journey Into Middle Life, is an Indie Award winner for nonfiction. His first foray into fiction, Book of Samuel, was a Readers’ Favorite Award Winner. His 6th composition—Jay Got Married—is a collection of 9 humorous, satirical essays which often speak to ironies and inconsistencies of life.

Jay Got Married is not just the title of the book but the lead essay of the same title and an amusing look at love and marriage in the year 2020.

His last work, Old Age Sucks, could be considered a follow-up to his first treatise, Fighting the Effects of Gravity.

Mr. Robinson’s current literary entry, released January 16 of 2023 and titled I Injured My Foot Doing the Mashed Potato or…I Should Have Stuck with the Twist, consists of 25 humorous essays covering such diverse topics as: How I injured my foot attempting an old dance after watching a Family Feud episode, Bat Lives Matter, Finding Bigfoot, and The Conn (as in Star Trek).

Mr. Robinson hit the ground running with his writing career at age 45 when the Effects of Gravity kicked in and his children began to mature, affording him the time to write. It was also then that he began to hone in on his sardonic wit.

Mr. Robinson resides in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife of 46 years. He is the father of three daughters ages 40, 41, and 43 and the proud grandfather of six.

This book has a little bit of everything and will keep you laughing and nodding and thinking "yep, totally agree!". It's comprised of 9 humorous essays written by a self proclaimed late bloomer. They are light reads but full of insightful nuggets about history and life that are nostalgic and fun. The author ponders what life would be like if his longtime wife were to suffer an untimely death (maybe attacked by pitbulls) and how he would survive. I enjoyed his walk down memory lane with reflections on movies before they were rated and cartoons like the Jetsons. My favorite line: I'm against censoring of any kind. I want to watch movies in all their vulgar glory. (I messed this up - the author is funnier). I found myself smiling as I read. I also really enjoyed all the pictures throughout. This author is very talented and entertaining. I highly recommend!

These set of essays will have you laughing, patting yourself on the back knowingly, and indulging in nostalgia [for those of us who were born before the millenium] and/or say what??? [for millenials who have never seen a pay phone before].

James Robinson has a humorous, tongue-in-cheek writing style that is breezy and refreshing. I enjoyed reading about racist jelly beans and the fantasies of redating and remarrying in this swipe left/swipe right age, as well as the future (present) as seen in the Jetsons. I laughed and remembered and laughed some more, and now I'm listening to some old timers singing Walking In a Winter Wonderland while writing a Christmas romance [well, actually writing this review, but I'm onto that hot romance next], complete with reindeer? Or let's try a giant caterpillar pulling a snail shell sleigh. Beware of the earworms that last until Easter. Don't say I didn't warn you, as I'm now listening to that reindeer song.
