I'm enjoying this new book, "Just This Side of Heaven" by author Timothy Glass. It's a true story about a beagle "Pretty Penny" that the author and his wife brought home as a pup and how their lives evolved together. It's a touching story that has had me tearing up at different times, either from happiness or loss. If you have a love of dogs and think of them as part of your family, you'll have no trouble relating to this book and the events as they unfold.

I highly recommend it and it is recommended reading by "Beagles by the Bay". Aroooo!

I had purchased this book several years ago after enjoying the cartoons published by this author. I'm a rescue beagle mommy through and through. I'm intrigued by their warm and sweet disposition as well as the bizarre antics they display as well. The author's portrayal of everyday beagle life was exactly spot on and brought many smiles and laughs. When my first beaglelove passed I was devastated. I picked up this book and found great solace with this read. It has been a year since my second beagle left me , and it seemed appropriate to re read this heartwarming book to help me think of all the wonderful memories and silly times that Earl Oliver and I had in the past 11 years. I highly recommend this book , and the series of the Sleepy Town beagles for both adults and children as well. This book indeed is a wonderful tribute to all animal lovers, especially those hearts who have been captured by our loving beagleloves . Looking forward to the newest book out by this author.

Read this book in one evening!!! What can I say? I love it! Everyone who has ever been owned by a beagle will resonate with this story. We had to send my daughter's old man, G, over the Rainbow Bridge in May 2016. So much of Penny's story mirrored G's story, and I cried when Penny's time to go had drawn near. (My beagle mix Andy came to see why Mommy was crying.) I highly recommend this book, and if you are on Facebook, look up Tim Glass and his Sleepytown Beagle cartoons. You will find yourself saying, "Me, too!" at all of Penny's antics and her siblings' antics.

I loved this book. I purchased it shortly after I lost my beagle, Eldon, to cancer. I could totally relate to the author and his love for his beagle because I had the SAME love for my beagle. This is a heartwarming story that is easy to read. I have purchased several copies of this book and given it to friends and family. It makes an excellent gift! I recommend purchasing a box of Kleenex to go along with it!

I recently lost my beagle and I have been having a hard time with her loss. A friend of mine posted this book on Facebook and I decided to get it. I'm really glad I did. When you know there are people who feel the same way about their beagles as you do, it helps to ease the pain. Beagles will be beagles, and I related to a lot of the stories and events mentioned in this book. Funny and Sad. A must read.

Great read by an awesome author. This story touched my heart. Now I'll always remember Penny and her family too.

"Just This Side of Heaven" is a beautiful story about Penny, the Beagle. Whether we lose a two-legged or four-legged family member or friend, the loss & grief we experience is universal. Tim takes us along with him & his wife Cathy through Penny's life journey. Through the joys, the sorrows, and the celebration when Penny reaches just this side of heaven.

I love beagles, and I have enjoyed Timothy Glass' depictions of the Sleepytown Beagles on Facebook for quite some time. But I found this gut-wrenching in it's sorrow, despite the humorous things that happened in places. Maybe it just hits "too close to home" for me - every pet owner who has loved and lost would certainly relate. He does a nice job conveying his feelings so the readers can understand the pain that one goes through. Perhaps Mr. Glass did that a little TOO well. I am sad just typing this and thinking about his loss - and my past losses.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I'd hoped

I found this book entertaoining but my main reservation about it is that it didn't seem to have enough dog-related material. Almost any book about a pet is going to contain a lot about the owner(s), but, for me, this one was slanted too much that way.
