Rebooting My Brain: How a Freak Aneurysm Reframed My Life
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
Rebooting My Brain is the true story of what happens when you get yanked out of your life by a crisis and have to get back on the ride all over again. With refreshing candor, Maria Ross shares how the relentless pace of her life came to a screeching halt when an undetected brain aneurysm ruptured and nearly killed her. Along her stubborn road back to health, her resulting cognitive and emotional challenges forced her sometimes kicking and screaming to reframe her life, her work and her identity. With humor and heart, Ross shares what it was like being blind for six weeks, how a TV crime drama and a brain-games website played key roles in her recovery, and why a handmade necklace helped her regain her sense of self.
Ross reveals the keys to her extraordinary comeback and how her perspective is forever changed, mostly for the better. Funny, touching and real, this book not only shares an inspirational story of transformation but enlightens readers about the surprising effects of brain injury... and explores the question,How do our brains define who we are?

I usually try to remember to be grateful for where I am and what I've got. Just now I am at a point where it isn't that easy though and I often find myself feeling miserable and sorry for myself. What a perfect time to come across this book! Maria has reminded me to be thankful for the wonderful people I have in my life and to allow the heart-warming thought that I have actually brought them into my life and kept them close myself.
I am far from such an extreme turning point as she had to tackle. Still, her words have struck a chord in me and given me a bit of a boost to take on my own challenges. And seeing I only tripped over this gem because I had to re-establish all folders and contents of around 600 books) on a new device - and not without complaining loudly, I might add - this proves once more true the old word of wisdom: things happen for a reason. In this case, me reading Maria's story at the right time to give me that kick in the butt.
Thank you Maria, for sharing this part of your life and for encouraging people to accept things they can't change and to rise to the challenge when they can.
Good wishes to you Marie. I may never know you but I feel I know you through this wonderful book. May you write many more books.

The way Maria Ross recounts the experience giving her own and her family and friends experience is so touching and very very readable
I am sure it will bring you to tears as you read it as there are so many insights she shares that only someone who had been through this could do. The way she explains the loss of self and the different ways we feel after SAH is refreshing and I have actually read parts out loud to my work colleagues as the author puts it into words in a way I have struggled to explain
It is a definate recommendation and I am sure you will find it helpful and entertaining
I should also say that this is the first book I have read since my SAH in Feb 2010 as I find it difficult to concentrate. She writes it factually so I do not have to try to work out what she means and the chapters are short so it is eay to pick up and put down when distracted.
I will be reading sections of this over and over again to help me stay focused in my recovery as her narrative is so inspiring but mainly because she is saying the things I am thinking and feeling. Seeing these written in black and white make it real and have helped me accept my problems.
I think this book will definately help someone who has any type of acquired brain injury or would help others understand those who have.In fact it is a good all round read for anyone
