"Dear Danny, thank you for your book, it excited me immensely.I wish you all the best.Dalya Dorner, Former Judge of Supreme Court.
I received the book you wrote today, I read it with unending curiosity, and I finished it just a while ago.First, I wish to thank you for the book; it's exciting - I really cried and thought of my Roi through the eyes of Uriel. The book touched me the way I thought it would and your story has entered the depths of my heart.I would like to say I admire you! If I thought I was the best father in the world, then I've just received an important lesson in modesty from you!Kisses to Uriel, I wish him luck in his not-at-all-easy road. Optimism and faith are the name-of-the-game in our lives, and God tests us every single day. Please say my thanks to David De'or for his rare kindness, in my son's name as well.Godspeed.
Gil, a reader who is also a father to an autistic child.
Reading the book has helped me understanding the bureaucracy procedures that parents must go through to help their kids. Absurd, like it is not difficult enough already. As a future therapist, I now understand more than ever how to treat parents, especially when I ask them to do additional things beyond therapy hours.Reading the book has also helped my understanding of the experience in the eyes of the mother and the father, what happens when they receive that kind of news, and be more patient in such a situation. It has also given me practical examples from a personal experience regarding sensual adjustment, adjusting the environment, and different situations in the daily routine of kids on the autistic spectrum.More than anything else, this book made me excited from the happiness these children can grant others. Every child differs from his friend on the spectrum and it's such a charm.
Ortal, Graduate of the Occupational Therapy Class of Tel Aviv University and a starting therapist.

Danny Or Fox is the father of Uriel, an eight-year-old child with autism. At a young age, Danny’s teachers told his parents he is dyslexic, with learning disabilities – but is excellent in the break time, which led him to becoming an excellent soccer player who now plays for the Israeli national soccer team.

After graduating from high school, Danny was recruited to the IDF and served in the Navy on missile boats. During his service, he became a commander of courses.

A little before his discharge from the army, he met his first wife, to whom he married and also had two children with, Roni and Gili.

After his service in the army, Danny started his first business selling mugs with custom-made engravings – an idea he invented and carried out himself. The business succeeded until the Gulf War in 1951 which made his business fall apart and led to him opening a new business for desserts.

After getting divorced and re-married, he started a farm for growing winged animals and made a fun and profitable business.

When the first child of Danny and Natalie – Uriel – was born, Danny’s life changed completely. When Uriel reached the age of one, he was injected with a vaccine, which after a few days turned him into a child with autism.

This discovery was a turning point in Danny’s and his family’s lives – their lives became a complex challenge involving wars in the Israeli bureaucracy and in a society which accepts no one a bit different.

His many challenges led Danny to write a lecture called “Life with Uriel”, which gained immense fame in Israel. Their touching lecture is presented in a humoristic way and excites the lives of Danny and his wife with their unique son.

Because of the lecture, Danny challenged himself to write a book (a dyslexic person writing a book) and has written the book “Life with Uriel – Different but Equal”, where he opens a door to his personal life and his family’s life, speaks about Uriel and charms the readers with the magnificent tales of the world in which he lives.

The book presents a very strong message of accepting differences between people, and its goal is to raise the awareness of accepting different people and integrating them into society as equal citizens and not as a burden.

Since autism is becoming more prevalent, and I have an autistic grandson, I was anxious to read this book. I found it very interesting and informative and really enjoyed reading it. It gave me another perspective on what my son and his wife have gone through trying to find the best treatments. It's a difficult situation and I feel for all the families going through this and hope everyone will come to understand just how very special these children are and what all they are capable of.

This book provides a small glimpse into the heartaches and joys of raising an autistic child. It also highlights the uphill struggles parents of autistic children have in getting their children the training and education they need to reach their full potential. With an ever-growing number of children being diagnosed as autistic, it's likely that most readers know someone personally whose family is touched by autism, but this book gives more insight into what it's really like for those families. Although the family in this story is Israeli, I suspect the challenges and emotions they've experienced are somewhat universal.

Three and a half stars, rounded up to four.

Any exceptional book that touches your heart from the start, drawing you into the lives of this family that embrace life with their autistic child. They find a balance to life that often seems impossible. As they are faced with new struggles daily, they may feel overwhelmed, but in the end they never give up trying and it pays off.

This is an odd book. It is not well written, which is perhaps why it is self-published. It diminishes the challenges of day-to-day living with a child with autism (although that is briefly mentioned) and emphasizes the wildly hopeful and spiritually infused attitudes of the author. This is not to say it is not worth reading - perhaps the dismal slogging of caring for a child with autism needs this completely altered point of view. Hmmmm....

This book opened my eyes to the wonderful potential of autistic children! Uriel's father shares all the joys and rewards that come with an autistic child. His work to obtain the best education possible for Uriel and to enlighten others is very inspiring. I highly recommend this book to teachers, parents of young to teenage children and to everyone else as well. It's well written, easy to read and enjoyable even with a few heart twists.

The author did a good job of opening their family's life with their autistic son to increase understanding of a different world reality. Not truly understanding the culture they were living in was a distraction for me, but not the authors fault. Having raised our own five children with their own unique conditions ( ADHD, adopted siblings with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, TBI from a non cancerous macropitituary adenoma and a very intelligent normal child) we learned what the term "new normal", meant when confronting each challenge. As the author's family did, families do what they need to do for the best outcome in each situation as it arises. As they learned when the difficulty has little to distinguish usual from unusual, expectations from others can cause pain for the family as well as the individual. Remembering they do not walk in your moccasins, but in their own shoes helps prevent feelings of intolerance. Thank you for helping me walk as ways with you down your path. Blessings on you, yours, and those helping you.

"When Uriel Sang" is an emotional and well written book about a father's love for his "exceptional" child and the lengths to which he went to make sure Uriel could get the help he needed and live the life he deserved. Simply though, it is a book about love. The love between a parent and a child. Thank you for letting me into your life and giving me a greater understanding of a world we rarely get to see.

This is an unusual book and very special. Rarely will one find a parent so open and honest in sharing their unusual life with their special child. It is an eye opener for others, giving them more understanding. Each family member is given a chance to add their thoughts in the book, so this is not a one sided view. I salute these wonderful parents. A very revealing and touching book.
