Review

This book, You Are Meant to Sing!, is not only an endearing story of Helane Marie Anderson's life and her successful search for her voice, it is also an essential guideline for finding your voice. Helane says "everyone is a singer." I believe it to be true! This self-help book gives you a treasure chest of tools and exercises that are outlined in a simple sequence. As we deconstruct the old and unwanted habits, memories, influences, etc., we also cultivate the new visions and dreams, highlighting the positive pieces of life that have always been part of the story. The new voice, the discovered voice, resounds fun, relief, and liberation. The ripples of each voice opening up to singing are phenomenal and far reaching. And what a timely recommendation by Helane when our country and our world need every bit of these ripples. This way, we indeed become the change we want for the world.Iva Nasr, mentor, speaker, and author of From Rifles to Roses: Memories and Miracles

As a person who uses toning in spiritual practice, I am thrilled that this book has accompanied and enriched my journey! Step by step, Helane guides you to get in touch with your heart, connect with your soul, and blossom in your life, all through your own voice. Our voice is a powerful tool for releasing whatever no longer serves us, help us heal from unwanted patterns, and create infinite possibilities in our life with intention. This book is an invaluable resource to light up the path before you, so that you can begin your journey, break away from all the conditions, and stand up for who you truly are!

A modern-day hero's journey unpacks Helane's soul and shares the victorious expedition. Perfectly balanced with anecdotes, some quite humorous, and lessons to help the reader effectively open-up the chakras. Not just the throat so you can sing, but all the energy centers, so you can step into your personal power and become the person you were meant to be!
Laura Alfano
Helane Anderson is a remarkable woman--a singer, pianist, mentor, and healer--who has developed her intuitive powers as capably as she trained her musical talents. The same qualities I saw so vividly in her classroom work are captured in this new book, You Are Meant to Sing! She understands the powers of self-discovery on the journey toward self-expression and self-realization. This book might be the first step for you on that journey.

Helane Marie Anderson began singing as soon as she came out of the womb, according to her parents. A songwriter trained as both a classical pianist and singer, Helane also has extensive administrative experience in the classical music industry. She has held artistic programming positions at both the Los Angeles Philharmonic and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra; served as director of composers and repertoire at the renowned classical music publisher, Boosey & Hawkes; and is currently adjunct faculty at the University of Southern California (USC).

After many years in the music industry, Helane decided it was time for something deeper. She trained to become a sound healer, reconnecting with her original love of singing and healing work. In recent years, she has focused on creating workshops that combine her healing journey and the modalities she has studied in order to facilitate deep healing and release through the voice. She has produced two sound healing recordings, “Elemental Alchemy” and “Painted Sound: A Journey through the 7 Chakras,” that help to balance the elements and chakras within the body, mind, and spirit.

Helane is certified as an integrative CranioSacral therapy practitioner and massage and polarity therapist through the Life Energy Institute/ I.P.S.B, the Institute for Psycho-Structural Balancing in Culver City, CA, with further studies at the Milne Institute in CranioSacral work. Helane holds a certificate in sound healing and therapy from the Globe Institute in San Francisco, CA, has received additional training in sound healing with John Beaulieu and Jamie Bechtold and is a certified Vinyasa yoga instructor

Helane’s deepest passion is to share her music and help aspiring singers, speakers, and seekers to connect with their voice and self-transform!

Helane has opened me up to the wonder of my voice. I enjoyed reading about her personal journey with voice as well as I loved the exercises and reflections she provided in her book. This book went far beyond the practical when it comes to singing. It helped me understand myself, why and how I was suppressing my voice. This has led to me step into my own unique voice signature without judgment and in a place of pure bliss.

I really loved this book. I liked the structure of it as well as the stories and personal experiences that the author shared. I appreciated her unvarnished sharing of her journey to stand in her truth and embrace her own gifts and talents. I admire the hard work, determination and the ultimate reward of her finding freedom through singing. This is a great book for people who want more background and practical information on the power of the voice and sound and how to get started in releasing things that may be blocking or holding them back from expressing themselves fully. I found the journaling and self-reflection exercises, along with the recitation of mantras, to be very helpful and focusing for my own work. I highly recommend this book!!

I really enjoyed this book. As someone who has always been embarrassed to sing, I was very intrigued by the title. However, what I discovered was so much more than singing, but a way to express myself freely in everyday world using my voice confidently. The author goes in depth about her own struggles, which I really enjoyed and could relate to. The book is full of tools and easy everyday exercises which anyone can do to unlock their true voice. This was a very easy read and dove pretty deep into my self awareness. I definitely recommend it!

I was expecting to read a book about training your voice to sing, but instead I got a book about the author's troubled past (which she BELIGERENTLY ranted on and on and on about it in the first few chapters). After I started reading about some "chants" and the mention of an "elephant god," I quickly realized that this book was delving into a "new age" type (which as a Christian I didn't want any part of), I immediately closed the book and deleted it off of my tablet.

If she actually got into voice training, I wouldn't know, but if you're looking for a lot of ranting, be sure to snap this book up.

Don't waste your money.

The author uses her journey to help us, her readers, discover our voice.
This book is a step-by-step spiritual guide to discover what a powerful tool your voice is. The book is about empowering yourself and finding the power within. It is about connecting with your heart and soul through singing.
Although anyone can benefit from reading this book, I believe it provides tremendous value for women. The reason is we have been silenced for too many years and need to regain our voice. The singing exercises will help you do so.

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

~Nelson Mandela

Quoting one of the sayings in the book ‘Human voice is the best instrument of all’, I would begin this review by showing my gratitude to the author for penning down content that not only inspires but also galvanizes the mind to strive in the direction where confidence gets boosted up and morale is spirited.

Avoiding brachylogy, the narrative is eloquent with simple vocabulary yet impressive content. The novella revolves around the struggle most of us face in finding our true inner voice. Everyone knows how to speak but to speak right at the suitable time is what matters the most. Through this book, the author has used personal experience as the key to stimulate the minds of the readers and make them realize the importance of speaking out the mind and voicing out the opinions. Introspective and retrospective, this book offers insight into the dormant side of our personality and provides some very helpful tricks to unlock the potential and also paves the path to self-discovery.

The book is an intriguing read as at times there are opinions that clash with the already established mindset. Thus, open-minded reading is what comes in handy. Go for this book as it has the calibre to help the readers.
