Holidays in Manhattan (The McKinnon Brothers Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 555 ratings

They didn’t believe in holiday magic… until it happens to them.

Anna McKinnon is a free spirit. As a bartender in New York City, she answers to no one, keeps what she calls “vampire hours” – and likes it that way. She secretly wishes to find real love, the forever kind her brothers have all found. But love has not only eluded her, it’s burned her badly. Keeping things light is how Anna copes.

David Beren is a high-powered, intense investment banker in the heart of Manhattan. His 80-hour work weeks took over his life long ago, but now, at 35, he’s ready for something more. But what? And then he meets Anna. She’s unexpected – full of light, color, and laughter. Anna knocks him off his game and his feet, and he’s never been happier.

Can total opposites – a feisty, bold girl from Ireland and a quiet, straight-laced Jewish guy from New Jersey – find love at the holidays? With the double whammy of a Hanukkah miracle and some Christmas magic, they just might.

David the investment banker is conservative a workaholic with little time for personal pursuits. Anna is an Irish bartender with streaks in her blonde hair tattoos and can have an attitude at times. After a chance meeting they develope a relationship around her late hours. Their differences make them stronger. He mellows out her exuberant nature and she brings sunshine and light to him. The story is beautifully written and I was touched by the characters as their relationship progressed. There were of course problems along the way but love holds true and there is a happy ending.

The tale of David and Anna was woven together with the threads of each of their very different lives. She a fierce, independent free-spirited Christmas loving Irish girl. He, a business minded, goal oriented, rather strait laced Hanukkah guy. They can’t resist one another, but Anna thinks that things that are too good to be true usually are.

So blessed to have been able to read the ARC. I will start by saying I think Anna is the coolest! Anna has a strength and a spunkiness that were a lot of fun to learn about. And, I have read the whole series, so I love the McKinnon’s. As with all my favorite books, I laughed, I cried and was sad when it ended.
David and Anna are the perfect opposites attract pair. The front row seat to their chemistry and building relationship was fantastic to read.
I always love how Ms Gracen paints a scene in all of her books. And she did not disappoint with this one! NYC leading up to the holidays made me want to go Christmas shopping and decorate!
And, I have to add that I loved Billy! He was not in the story much, but I am hoping that Billy will get his own book! I think it would be a hoot!
This book would be a great gift for anyone who loves opposites attract love stories and anyone who loves the holiday season!

As I read the previous books in the series, it seemed that each one kept getting better. With the final book, I was hoping for more than I found. The H is fascinating; I really liked him, but the h couldn't get over her past---over and over. Also, before one gets too far into the book, it's pretty obvious that sex drives the entire "plot." There were two very different people and while they did reach out to see the other's perspective on things, I felt like that was just a side plot, rather than the main one. This is an uneven series. If the sexual content doesn't offend you greatly, it's worth reading, but I'd put it in the "to be read if I'm looking for something easy" rather than a "must read."

This is Anna McKinnon and David Beren's story.
Anna was going to be late. But really, it wasn’t totally her fault; she was notoriously not a morning person and everyone knew that, she’d woken up late to begin with, and she couldn’t walk by the bakery window when those gorgeous cupcakes were practically shouting at her. The miniature red, orange, and yellow sugary leaves on top were so inviting, she couldn’t squelch the urge to get two of them for her nieces. It was a very good excuse for being a few minutes late to brunch. Especially when she so rarely did a Sunday brunch.
After working until two A.M. the night before, as she often did, Sundays were for being lazy, running a few errands, and laundry. Since she worked evening and night shifts at her brother’s bar, she rarely saw the sun before noon in general. But she’d been summoned by her sister-in-law, who’d become a cherished friend besides a member of the McKinnon family, and Anna hated to deny Cassandra anything.
Three days ago, Anna had turned thirty-one. Cass had insisted on a family get-together to celebrate her birthday. Most of the tremendous McKinnon family was back in Ireland, where Anna and Sean had been born and raised. Here in New York City, Sean, Cassandra, and their daughters were the only family Anna had around. She cherished them all, but was unabashedly in love with her nieces. Sweet Rose was five, and Ella, only twenty-one months old, was already a firecracker.
“Ooof!” came a deep voice from behind her.
Gasping, Anna whirled around in horror. The man standing behind her held his face as he glared down at her. “Oh sweet Jesus,” she stammered. “I punched you in the face, didn’t I?”
“Mm hmm,” he ground out.“I’m so sorry. I didn’t even know you were there!” “Yeah, I got that.”
Holidays in Manhattan by Jennifer Gracen is a 4 star book.

Really great story. Unexpected Run in by two people who couldn't be from more different life styles. Storyline is romantic look at them trying to decide whether people from such diverse backgrounds can be more than a physical
Relationship.

I thoroughly enjoyed Jennifer Gracen's book. It was a lovely love story of two people who are complete opposites in personally and background finding each other. Very good read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice feel good romance

A nice romance with lots of lovely moments, I liked how their relationship unfolded, two quite different people working out how they fit together. There was a "real" feel to them working out their disagreement at the end. Only a minor criticism but given the impression we are given about David the fact that he left a mark on her neck the first time they slept together doesn't fit with his respectful behavior.
