Sissie Klein Is Completely Normal: A Novel Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 71 ratings

Perfect for fans of Robyn Carr’s Virgin River Series, the author of Goodbye, Lark Lovejoy returns with a stirring story of a mother’s enduring love, a family’s betrayal, and the ultimate act of forgiveness.

One mistake can steal your innocence. One promise can plague a friendship. One secret can tear apart a family.

Sissie Klein barely remembers the night that tore her from the carefree life she knew. Not long after the shocked teen is pushed into marriage, she’s rushed to the hospital where a catastrophic delivery seals her destiny.

Sissie is determined to give her daughter the opportunities she forfeited, but some fates can’t be avoided. Tragedy strikes, leaving behind a legacy of deceit—and an orphaned toddler.

Told with heartbreaking honesty and shrewd humor,
Sissie Klein Is Completely Normal examines the ties that bind us—some inherited, others chosen—none without their share of agonizing tangles.

Kris Clink has given readers another look into the lives of the women of the Texas Hill Country, this time with Sissie Klien. I loved Goodbye, Lark Lovejoy, and was excited to read Clink's new book. It hit the spot, telling the story of the wife an obnoxious guy who dated Lark in high school. Sissie does what she needs to keep her family together, but when everything falls apart, she realizes how much more is out there. You end up rooting for Sissy and wanting her to find true love. This book delivers!

Sissie found her way onto my Kindle exactly when I needed her. Kris Clink has done it again with this lovely read. The ups and downs of her life feel a bit familiar, and Kris has knit a wonderful tale that draws the reader deep inside each character. From the naive but wise Sissie to troubled Caleb to sassy and smart Meg, heroic Lark and her handsome and kind brother, each one mirrors someone we know and captures our hearts. What a beautiful read about family and love that I never wanted to end.

This was a captivating coming of age story that shows the power of commitment and perseverance will prevail. What started out as teenage misfortune, slowly turned into a story about love and self discovery. I enjoyed reading about Sissie and her family work through some tough life circumstances that many could relate to. I would recommend this book to fans of Mercury.

I so very much enjoyed this book. The author is a natural-born storyteller, and she made it easy to keep turning those pages until the final page was read. Sissie Klein is both complicated and relatable --she doesn't always know what she wants, but you know that she'll figure it out and do the right thing.

The story
One bad decision when Sissie is 16 changes her life path forever. One night out of town with her friend Della leads to teen pregnancy and marriage at 16 to Caleb. They stay together although when their daughter Meg is a teen times become difficult.

My thoughts
This story had me feeling WOW WOW WOW. Just when I thought I was at the end of the story I realised I was only a third of the way through and a huge curveball was thrown out. The second part of this incredible story was just as beautiful as Sissie’s kind and loving heart and nature. I just loved how her heart expanded to adapt to the changes thrown at her throughout her lifetime. One of her special characteristics was being in a terrible position but accepting what she couldn’t change and embracing it. It’s one life skill that I appreciate as being something that no one can take away from you. I just loved this story and the characters so so much. This book was a “read now” on NetGalley and I am so pleased to have discovered Kris Clink’s writing.

PS thinking about this story later and the aspects where Sissie’s therapist suggests she has a safe word. Where she knows that that at any moment, Caleb’s mood may turn. I grew up in a house like that. Surprised I missed this obvious aspect at first. Isn’t that just the thing about great stories how aspects come to you later?

I read an eARC copy courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher.
