Review
Which line stood out from all the others in the book?
"Shit happens, but life goes on."
General Summary for Context:
A story of the life struggles of the protagonist, a fighter pilot and an investigator, and how he finds a way to overcome them in the end. We are drawn into the emotions the protagonist deals with, and the way he goes from the depths to the heights of life, through all the blows he is dealt.
Concise Review:
The young protagonist loses his parents twice (biological and adoptive) in a series of unfortunate events that leave him in a difficult and fragile state of mind. He tries his best to cope with the difficult situation by learning to fly and becoming a top gun fighter pilot, which soothes the loneliness and the empty feeling inside him as he feels he found somewhere he belongs. However, during one of his combat missions, he loses consciousness and nearly his life, which leads to him being grounded from future flying missions. He finds himself adrift and hits the bottle, but a chance meeting with Katie, a computer geek who helps him in his investigation, leads to love blossoming between them and a new hope for the future.
General thoughts on the Novel:
A page-turner that focuses on the fragile and tender emotions that an individual faces when significant life events deal him multiple blows, leaving him lonely and depressed. It has a plain writing style with an engaging plot. The characters are fleshed out well, and develop as the story progresses over a span of time. I loved learning about all the fascinating details of the life of a fighter pilot and a member of an investigations agency.
This is a light story that pulls you in and is easy to read, taking you on an inspiring and turbulent emotional journey. The general tone of the story is uplifting, with the underlying message that if we put in our best efforts, we can overcome any difficulties that we face in our lives.

This story, written by Ed Benjamin, is a rollercoaster of emotions. Following the story of Harry, an Orphan who joins the air force and is assigned to the war against Irani forces. At the edge of death, after losing consciousness in the middle of a battle against the Irani leader Mar, he swears revenge for the death of his wingman.
What I liked the most about this book is the different stages Harry goes through. Situations that, in my opinion, many people experience when they're sent to war. The scars, vices, and difficult situations they are forced to overcome are so clear that I am convinced war is clearly not the solution.
Redemption, a beautifully written story that keeps the reader interested until the end!
The character of Harry is well done, and the other characters, including Katie and Sam, are quite believable. The story is well described, except, in my opinion, the aerial combat. Early in that combat we are told Harry has special spatial and situation awareness. We are told this about three times then, and more later. So the combat makes what of this? Harry turns his plane towards the enemy and fires missiles. That is it. Special awareness? What the author really needed was editing. There are numerous places where editing is required. I am usually fairly tolerant of this sort of flaw because independent authors seldom if ever gain from paying for it, but there are plenty of ways constant re-reading and careful revision can pick out some of these. The author makes a lot of Harry as a pilot, but the best part of the book is by far his action as an investigator. The book really should have been rewritten, with the last part left out, and the redemption part being Harry's recovery from his depression and his finding a new life. That would make a really good story. As it is, my grading is somewhat charitable – I thought of it as about 3.5 stars.
I highly recommend this book.
It’s stilted, short in intensity, sometimes poorly worded (or edited), the subject matter frequently jumps around, and a lot of a previous sentence is simply repeated shortly thereafter. (Which is a ridiculous way to write a story!) This comes out almost as if this book were written for (or by) a child, and is annoying for an adult Reader.
As The Reader gets further and further into the book, it becomes kind of obvious this tale is one long, drawn out story about the principle character’s morals … one example after another, for a guy who’s lived quite a life, with extreme ups-and-downs.
Overall recommendation — Don’t take the time to read this book; use your time and energy on something else of better value.
Most of the time reading this, I was on pins and needles as it gets quite intense at every turn of the page. The combination of action and the moments in which the book is focused on the protagonist’s problems and pains are very well integrated and described. I enjoyed this book a lot! I highly recommend it.
