Sand, Stone and Steel: A Reverse Harem Cyborg SF/Fantasy Romance (The Protectors Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 103 ratings

For Yin and all her kind, the sight of winged Aerians in the sky meant safety. But when she automatically uses previously unknown mental powers to protect one such Aerian, Yin finds herself stolen away from her home and embroiled in a rebellion she didn’t even know was taking place.
The cyborgs that serve humanity on a distant world are invincible in all ways except one: their human minds are prone to madness. When Stone and Steel, two young Aerian cyborgs, save Yin from a terrible death, they realize the millennium-old
Prophecy of the Protector is about to be fulfilled. Along with Sand, their high-ranking superior, they risk everything to keep safe the woman they know can do far more than just protect them. Her love can heal their tortured minds and save humanity from annihilation.
This series is NOT light romance and contains some violent content that, although not overly graphic, may discomfort some readers. This Reverse Harem Romance also includes MFMM love scenes that, while tastefully written, are only suitable for mature readers.

After a lifetime of teaching others to appreciate the written word, Aussie author Nhys Glover finally decided to make the most of the Indie Book Revolution to get her own written word out to the world. Now, with more than a quarter million of her ebooks downloaded internationally and a winner of 2013 SFR Galaxy Award for 'The Titan Drowns', Nhys finds her words, too, are being appreciated.

At home in beautiful Durham County England, Nhys these days spends her time "living the dream" by looking out over the moors as she writes the kind of novels she loves to read.

I loved how the story was built as more information was gathered by all involved parties. Many authors forget how truly clueless a character can be that's known only lies their whole lives and how finding out truths could drastically affect them. Wonderful work!

Enjoyed this read. A different take on the reverse harem. Each male entered the relationship based on their unique personality and not all 3 at once. Yin was truly clueless, but it fits her upbringing. Little physical interaction and sadly not given enough words. Based on their feelings should have had more sex or more to the sex they did have. Slow lead in to the ménage.

A very stratified society, with haves and have-nots where 3 souls find one another. Gave this one only 4 stars only because it starts slowly and concludes almost too fast. I understand the need to build and flesh out this new world for readers but almost set the book aside. But then it grabbed me and couldn’t put the book down. Well edited (believe me, that is very important to me as reader). My favorite by this author is the Ancient Romance series but based on this book, I’m going to try reading even her books on magical (not my fave genre) romance. For me, that is high praise/recommendation indeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put this down!
Reviewed in Australia on February 4, 2022
I don't know how this author keeps coming up with these incredible stories, but I don't really care as long as they keep coming!

Sand, Stone & Steel is the first in a new series from Nhys Glover, and after reading it I'm impatient for the second book. I simply could not put this book down until I had read the entire thing.

Set on an alien world populated a thousand years prior by the last people from Earth, they had been transported asleep through space, while Artificial Intelligence piloted the ships. Those same AI beings were found less effective on their new home planet, so steps were taken to enhance their performance to create Cyborgs whose role was to protect the precious humans. Others were designed to explore and mine the planet for resources, while a third group explored deep space and initiated contact with other civilisations.
These cyborgs are now on the cusp of evolutionary progress, discovering they are more than the mindless servants the humans treat them as.
    They are all individual...
    They think.
    They feel.
And they can fall in love.

Civilisation is about to be turned on its head.

“Kinetic”, not “kinaesthetic”. They get energy from moving, ergo KINETIC. *twitch
I think I got about 20ish percent in and I’m not drawn in to the characters, and found I’m skim reading. Which doesn’t bode well. It reads as if the author forgot some part of the world building and adds it in as they type, or as they re-read it. This isn’t a rolling ball of story that builds as it goes, it’s merely stuttering along with additions thrown in. I’m not engaging these characters and Steele comes across as not just aggressive, but as an inconsistent character, super aggressive but thinking about nice things but super aggressive but lamenting his past but super aggressive and breeders are idiots but he misses Yin after being around her for 30secs; as I said, author forgot to add some aspects and adds them in as we go. It makes me think of a toddler trying to force a round peg into a square hole, *smoosh *bang *shove “…make this story work!”
