For the first time, the twenty-two stories found in Pandora’s Children books 1-5 and Dark Interludes have been combined into two easy-to-navigate volumes.

This collection contains almost two dozen dark stories, tales where men become monsters, monsters become men, and no one is ever truly safe. You will find ghosts, demons and monsters; evil men, madmen and broken men; a wood-chipper, Santa Claus and yes, a handful of dentists. Each book contains eleven stories, over 90,000 words (almost 300 pages) of disturbing, provocative tales which will keep you thinking long after you’re done reading.

In Volume 1, you will find these eleven stories:

The Devil’s Toothache- A late night emergency visit changes the course of a young dentist’s life. (6,800 words)
For Don- Four Vietnam veterans meet up at a restaurant in Chicago, as they do every year, to commemorate their fallen comrade, Don. (2,500)

The Madame Penitent- A teenager dying of cancer ventures out for one last thrill and finds something waiting for him in the Nevada desert. (10,600)

By the Skin of His Teeth- A young teacher tries get on with his life while dealing with the psychological trauma of having been trapped under a building after an earthquake. (2,900)

Just Meat- A first year medical student learns the consequences of defiling her cadaver late at night in her gross anatomy lab. (3,300)

The Transfer- A transfer student at a New Orleans university tries to unravel the mystery of the strange noises he hears next door. (19,500)

On the Curb- A horrific traffic accident that is not at all what it seems (6,700)

Swim- A mother faces the consequences after her three children die in a late night car accident on an icy road (6,000)

Wood Chipper Blues- A dentist is forced to consider whether or not one of his patients is a murderer after the police come to his door one night. (4,800)

Pandora’s Children- A rapist and murderer is given a second chance at life by a mysterious stranger; all he has to do is control the monster within. (17,600)

Higher- A father and parole officer makes the ultimate decision when his son comes to his house with a gun looking for drug money. (7,900)

Bonus excerpt- The first half of my 25,000 word novella, Dogs of War.

From the reviewers:

I borrowed this as my monthly free book for Prime Members. The writing style was tight and the stories short enough to read in one sitting. Since I just finished it, the last story is the one that’s sticking…I still have a lump in my throat and am wiping at my eyes. It was different from the rest of the stories which were more paranormal in nature – it was a tearjerker, be forewarned.  – “MommaCat”

.I have found a new author to get excited about! I found these stories easy to read- like listening to ghost stories around the campfire. Will definitely be buying more from him.   –  “Mrs. Dash”

I enjoyed every story in this collection. What a great find. Bradley Convissar writes like old school King and (even better) is also reminiscent of Robert McCammon. Can’t wait to read his other books.  –  “Cindybo”

I have not even finished this book yet and I am really enjoying it! In the introduction, the author refers to the 80’s style horror fiction (which is the best, in my opinion) and he’s hit it spot on! The stories are well written and suspenseful and not just scary, but horrifying….sometimes our minds are scarier than any space spider or alien or what have you. Great book!  –  Joley Hidaka

Brad spent four years earning his degree in evolutionary biology at Tulane University in New Orleans and should be, according to many of his professors, wandering the globe and searching for new animal species.  Instead, he lives in New Jersey where he practices dentistry during the day and writes at night. He is married with two children and a diabetic, half-blind wiener dog named Friday.

His interests include, in no particular order: the Philadelphia Phillies, the Philadelphia Eagles, reading comic books, reading non-illustrated books (King, Koontz, Straub, Barker, Deaver, Butcher are among his favorite authors), listening to music (Tool, Disturbed, Godsmack, Chevelle, Three Days Grace and Nirvana are among his favorite bands) and playing video games. Sleeping is considered optional.

“”Bradley Convissar’s book Dogs of War is brilliant! The writing is breathtakingly precise and painful. A ghost story way up on the line with my personal favorite Stephen King books: Cujo and the Pet Sematary.”

-Natalie Valentina, Goodreads

About the Author

I was born on Fort Benning Army Base in Georgia in 1977 but spent most of my formative years in southern NJ, outside of Philadelphia. I attended Tulane University in New Orleans in the late nineties, where I earned by bachelors degree in evolutionary biology, then spent the next four years trapped in scenic Newark, New Jersey, earning my DMD from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Now in my thirties, I find myself living back in the same zip code I grew up in, but in a different house with my own family. I have a son and a daughter and a diabetic Daschund named Friday who is prematurely going blind.
