I got my first taste of Colleen Collins’ quirky sense of romantic humor (or humorous romance) in ‘Sleepless in Las Vegas’, and I’m happy to report that this one, ‘The Ungrateful Dead’ still bears her trademark literary style—you cannot put this down. Colleen had me at “romance at a coroners conference.”

I loved The Zen Men and really had fun catching Rick and Laura's first case in the prequel, The Ungrateful Dead. These novels have everything I love in a mystery: smart dialogue, a flawed hero, a little romance and a great plot. Murder at a coroner's conference? What could be more fun!

Reviews

“I loved every single word of The Zen Man!” ~ Delores Fossen, USA Today best-selling author

“A brilliant mystery novel…I eagerly await the return of the Zen Man.” ~Becky Sherriff, The Kindle Book Review

“Great humor. Great dialogue. Author did a great job of establishing the relationship between Rick and Laura. It never overshadowed the mystery, but it made the book truly multi-dimensional. Fans of Janet Evanovich (if she woke up one morning and took on the persona of a recovering addict/Deadhead) and Nick and Nora Charles might enjoy this story.” ~New York Times best-selling author Dorien Kelly

From The Author

In 2008, I wrote a mystery short story, The Ungrateful Dead, based on two characters, Rick Levine (a private investigator) and Laura Fitzhugh (his girlfriend), who spend their first romantic weekend together at a coroner’s conference. I can guess what you’re thinking: “Is she kidding?  A romantic weekend at a coroner’s conference?” I happen to know this is possible because, as the saying goes, I’ve been there and done that.

During the decade that my husband and I ran a private detective agency in Denver, Colorado, we were invited several times by our state coroner association to give presentations at their annual conferences. Both times, the association treated us to a lovely hotel room, paid for our meals, and more. Just like Rick and Laura in The Ungrateful Dead, we made romantic weekends out of hanging out with a lot of coroners.

But unlike Rick and Laura, we didn’t end up investigating a murder at the conference!

In SHE’S GOTTA BE MINE by Jennifer Skully, what better way to show her ex what he’s missing in the made-over Bobbie Jones than taking up with the local bad boy—who’s also reputed to be a serial killer. That is, until a real murder rocks the little town of Cottonmouth.

In THE HONEYMOON COTTAGE by Barbara Cool Lee, Camilla Stewart finds too late that escaping her past won’t be easy. Because local sheriff’s captain Ryan Knight realizes that Camilla and her son Oliver may be the only people alive who can identify a serial killer… and they are next on his hit list.
