Veteran NY cop, Rick Cooper, heads to his family’s lake house after losing a hostage negotiation, resulting in the death a child. He brings only his dog and his saxophone for company. His agenda includes lots of fishing while figuring out an appropriate career change.

Single mom, Kristin McCarthy hears the sound of the saxophone gliding through the night air…a healing sound for her daughter. She begins a search for the person who can play so beautifully. Her high hopes fall, however, when the musician turns out to be a cop. The police fell short when she and Ashley needed them most. But still…if this cop could make a difference…if he can help Ashley…well, Kristin would do anything for her young daughter.

An attractive widow with a damaged kid are the last people Rick needs in his life, and he tries hard to remain aloof. The ladies, however, knock down his barriers simply by being themselves. Fearful but brave, smart but silly. Before long, warm feelings grow between him and Kristin. Feelings that spark potential for a future together.

However, before Kristin allows herself to dream, Rick must prove he’s a man she and her daughter can trust. Can they count on him forever?

Ms. Barrett is such a wonderful author. Haven’t read any of her books yet that I did not thoroughly enjoy. She writes with a lot of compassion. Poor Ashley being attacked by some dirt bag. Then this wonderful dog and his master come into her and her mother’s life. It is a book about life, love and family, something they all need. Even Quincy’s owner. Please read it and all of the author’s books. I don’t think you will be disappointed. I loved the Pilgrims Cove series. Enjoy..” – Amazon Review

Rebecca Hart has her life together–great job, great friends and ready to run the Boston Marathon. Her life turns in an instant when she’d injured in the bombing.

Single dad and veterinarian, Adam Fielding, intends to remain a bachelor after being “abandoned” twice. Once by the love of his life and once by a second-best girlfriend.

When Rebecca arrives at Sea View House to recover, neither she not Adam is prepared to let the magic of the place affect them.

Will these two open their hearts and run toward a new finish line together?

STARTING OVER… Brave. Bold. Brainy. One woman reached for the gold, one for the law, one for the university, and one ran as far from home as possible. But often, the best laid plans fall apart, and Starting Over is the only thing to do.

True-Blue Texan, Book 1 —

A fish out of water. University instructor, Katherine Kirby, reluctantly faces a new city and a new job. How could she, who was used to teaching eager undergraduates at a prestigious college, relate to a class of adult high school dropouts seeking an equivalency diploma? She has no family, no love in her life, and no choice but to jump into her new position and do the best she can. After all, it’s only temporary while she gets her career back on track.

Her new students, however, begin to touch her heart. Especially the tall, dark Texan in the second row.

Nick Martinelli’s presence in her class is a secret — from his parents, his customers and the entire city. But his interest in Katherine is no secret. In his desire to teach the teacher, however, Nick learns a little something himself.

Here’s the set-up:

Lisa Delaney drops out of law school to care for her four younger siblings when her parents don’t survive a car accident. The children beg to stay together with their big sister rather than be split up among relatives. Lisa’s aunts insist her parents would want her to remain in school.

Mike Brennan, Lisa’s fiancée, is in his rookie year with the NFL, and suggests he and Lisa marry quickly and give the kids a home. Lisa searches for legal directives her parents might have left—a fruitless effort—and finally agrees with Mike. After she obtains legal guardianship of the children, she and Mike wed.

Moving from rural Massachusetts to Boston, they leave close friends behind. They are on their own. Mike is the second backup QB for the Boston Riders and focused on his dream career. He thinks his potential earnings will solve all problems. Lisa insists the children are not charity cases and works full-time to supplement their income.

Soon Lisa is overwhelmed with the responsibility of daily life, and Mike is no help. Despite counseling, her grief is constant. She has no time or interest in befriending other football wives. She twice tries to return to law school, but twice drops out. When Mike’s career takes off, he buys a large house in Boston’s elegant Beacon Hill neighborhood. Working class Lisa feels out of place.

Most of all, however, she’s haunted by thoughts of her parents’ expectations. Is she a good enough mom for their precious children? Are they proud of her? Slowly the issues between Lisa and Mike lead to a meltdown of their marriage.

Has love died? Or has it been buried beneath obligations faced by two young people armed only with good intentions?
