Here's the set-up:
THE NEW NOVEL FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE YEAR WE FINALLY SOLVED EVERYTHING

Elliot Bergeron feels like he's been here before...

Elliot Bergeron has just finished university and is falling for a young woman.  Elliot Bergeron is a disheartened thirty year-old elementary school teacher counting down the years to his pension. Elliot Bergeron's life is wide open.  Elliot Bergeron's life is sealed shut.  Elliot Bergeron has dreams of his future.  Elliot Bergeron has dreams of his past.  Elliot Bergeron is living two parts of his own life at the same time and doesn't know who he is, who he loves, what he controls, what will happen next, or even what happened before.

With an ear for dialogue and a penchant for wry humor, Kerkhoven's writing is reminiscent of Nick Hornby but with the attitude of Dave Eggers.   Utilizing a narrative that is linear and yet cyclical, A Dream Apart is an original and surreal drama about love and tragedy with a comedic gloss.   Like The Year We Finally Solved Everything, it defies simple genre classification.
One Reviewer Notes:
"A Dream Apart" is a very impressive book. The author must have had a very clear vision of what he wanted to create when he sat down to begin writing this novel. There are two main stories threading themselves throughout this book, as told by the main character, Elliot Bergeron... Each chapter jumps back and forth between these two plots, always making you want to read 'just one more chapter...'. Throughout it all, the author maintains some very quick wit in the conversations that take place between characters, making what could be a very confusing and tragic story an incredibly enjoyable and worthwhile read. Highly recommended.

About the Author
Over the last thirteen years, Rudolf Kerkhoven has greatly improved his typing skills. He is now able to type quickly through a rather unorthodox hybrid of the prescribed home-row technique and good old hunt-and-peck. As of the summer of 2011, his estimated WPM (words per minute) is 65, although it appears doubtful that this will improve any further. Rudolf Kerkhoven is pretty impressed with this. The Redemption of Mr. Sturlubok: A Choose Your Own…

by Daniel Pitts, Rudolf Kerkhoven

Here’s the set-up:

Mr. Leroy Sturlubok — a high-strung, loose cannon, take-no-prisoners kind of guy — has recently risen to the lofty echelons of society. He’s become a public elementary school vice principal. But when it seems that someone has broken through the defenses of his beloved workplace, a single decision leads him into a labyrinthine world of possibilities.

Will he solve the mystery of his predecessor’s sudden (although beneficial) demise? Will he foil a terrorist plot from the afterlife? Will he team up with a telepathic elderly Japanese man who looks strangely similar to Sulu from the original Star Trek? Will he allow Tony Danza to film his new reality television show in his school? Will he find out just who the hell is taking all the damn photocopy paper? Will he return to his native Norway and lead a life fit for the mighty Norse god Odin? Will he start a new life among those rude and wretched Canadians? Or will he learn the insidious secret about his ex-wife’s French fiance, Andre Cartier?

The choice, as always, is up to you.

With more than 100 choices, 46 different endings, as well as dozens of hyperlinked footnotes, The Redemption of Mr. Sturlubok contains enough twists and surprises to keep even the most hyperactive adult entertained. You won’t be able to help yourself from smiling–like a Kindergarten class during flu season, The Redemption of Mr. Sturlubok is infectious. Cheats available at kerkhoven.wordpress.com/the-redemption-of-mr-sturlubok/

A note from the authors: Rudolf Kerkhoven and Daniel Pitts have more than 20 years of teaching experience between the two of them. The Redemption of Mr. Sturlubok does not in any way reflect anything they have learned or witnessed.

One Reviewer Notes:

“Leroy Sturlubok is a surly, self important ‘man-child’ who is thrown into some hilarious scenarios as the reader gets tonnes of opportunities to choose Leroy’s path to redemption. Although most of the endings don’t actually result in any form of redemption for the main character, there are some really funny plot lines to follow. Whether Leroy ends up being a ghost, a private detective or finally returning to the ‘mother land’ (aka Norway), you will thoroughly enjoy all the quirks along the way. One of the best parts of this book are all the links the authors included. Throughout the book, there are underlined words that the authors have linked to pictures and fairly useless information that makes the book almost interactive. I thought these footnotes were great fun and really added to it and took full advantage of the digital book medium. If you liked Whatley Tupper or you liked “Choose Your Own Adventure” books when you were a kid, you’ll really love this book. ”

Erin

An absolute joy to read!

Here’s the set-up:

On April 30th, Rudolf Kerkhoven and Daniel Pitts will be releasing a brand new choose-your-own-adventure style ebook, The Redemption of Mr. Sturlubok (which will also be the KND daily sponsor).  In anticipation of this, they are offering a special edition of their original choose-your-own-adventure, The Adventures of Whatley Tupper for only 99 cents until April 15th.

The Adventures of Whatley Tupper follows a lowly janitor through a labyrinthine web of increasingly ridiculous and hilarious outcomes.  Will he tame the troglodyte murderer living in the disused network of campus tunnels? Will he join forces with the Denny’s night manager to counter a renegade group of custodians? Will he inadvertently travel into a parallel universe that sounds suspiciously similar to another plot-line? Will he journey to Honduras to reunite with his deported love? Will he suffer amnesia and begin to question his own sexuality? Or will he turn out to be nothing more than a figment in the imagination of his idol, Tom Selleck?  The choice is entirely up to you…

However, this new edition of The Adventures of Whatley Tupper also includes a 16 000 word fully interactive preview of The Redemption of Mr. Sturlubok, which follows a high-strung, loose cannon vice principal in an elementary school.  It has a little bit more of everything that made The Adventures of Whatley Tupper such an original and absurd guilty pleasure.

What the Reviewers Say
“Lots of strange stuff happening, some wildly divergent threads, and a healthy dose of WTF keep this ebook interesting even after multiple reads.  Will this be the next big trend in ebooks? I sure hope so.”
–J.A. Konrath

“Whatley Tupper is representative of the boundless creativity, raw energy, and just plain sheer fun and entertainment that independent authors are capable of and deserve recognition for.”
–Digital Spotlight Fiction Review

“A “choose-your-own-adventure” for adults, “The Adventures of Whatley Tupper” is a riot…  The stories ranged from silly to downright ridiculous, but I was thoroughly entertained the entire way through.”
–Motherlode

“I think that is why I ultimately enjoyed The Adventures of Whatley Tupper–because it was super weird…  For hours of disgustingly ridiculous fun, the book is a great price.”
–Kate the Book Buff

About the Author

Rudolf Kerkhoven was born in the midst of a ravaging Yukon winter, the product of Dutch immigrants who took a wrong turn and ended up in the far, far north. Here, in this unforgiving environment, where the extreme cold and endless winters show no relent, Rudolf became the man he is today, forged by these brutal elements, far from the excesses of modern society.

At the age of 0.5 he moved south, first to the Canadian prairies and eventually to the Vancouver area of British Columbia where he currently resides in a comfortable 2-bedroom townhouse.

Kindle Nation Daily Free Book Alert, Friday, March 18: Rachel Vincent’s Reaper Leads the Latest Kindle Freebies! plus … A dark, ironic and fast-paced novel about the sacrifices one makes to achieve perfection: The Year We Finally Solved Everything by Rudolf Kerkhoven (Today’s Sponsor)

An ebook exclusive Soul Screamers series novella by Rachel Vincent from Teen Harlequin is this morning’s latest addition to our 200+ Free Book Alert listings….

But first, a word from … Today’s Sponsor

Shan Won seems to only exist deep within the dark rumor-crazed underbelly of the internet.  But the common thread throughout all this writing is glaringly obvious: people stumble upon Shan Won, espouse its perfection, and never, ever–ever–return.

“I was hooked from the very first page… My questions were answered, but not in the manner I was expecting. Instead, my questions were answered in a way that forced me to think about my own life choices.

Thought-Provoking Novel about Paradise Found”

Here’s the set-up:

The global economy is in tatters not because of humanity’s faults but because of its accomplishment.  The country of Shan Won, a small island state off the coast of China, has cured all of our ills, and like a black hole, a piercing singularity of perfection, it’s sucking the world dry of its stability and leadership and power.

What the Reviewers Say

Human traffickers become overwhelmed with smuggling hordes of North Americans across to Asia for a better life.  And for Richard, to whom growing up seems to have solved nothing at all, escape seems to be his only option.  But when he become reacquainted with Mia, the girlfriend of his twenties, he’s no longer certain about just what’s the problem and what’s the solution.  He only knows that he’s running out of time.

The Year We Finally Solved Everything is a dark, ironic and fast-paced novel (55 000 words) about the sacrifices one makes to achieve perfection.

“But what is life when we have nothing left to strive for? The Year We Finally Solved Everything will make you ask that question and many more.”
–Writing, Reading, and Everything in Between

“I found the writing style of this author to be excellent.  I enjoyed the natural dialogue, and the imagery was sharp.”
–Red Adept Reviews

A sparsely written letter received by a friend, a determined google search, a lot of individual soul searching, and Richard finds himself on the path to Shan Won. Shan Won is a refuge of perfection that welcomes everyone, and renders its visitors virtually incapable of leaving; not because they can’t, but because, well, why would they ever want to? Who could leave a place where hunger, sickness and societal discord are things of the past? The question is not one of wondering *if* you will go or what to do there, the questions is simply ‘how will I get there?’ I was hooked from the very first page.”
–GraceKrispy
