But first, a word from ... Today's Sponsor
The subject matter, immensely challenging, thought-provoking and at times overwhelming, keeps the reader simultaneously enthralled, fascinated and sometimes frightened throughout - the immense potential powers of a mind purposely harnessed and "trained" to achieve and maintain personal ambition, power and gain, to control and manipulate others totally and to control and discipline oneself totally in order to achieve those aims.

Here's the set-up:
Julian is a student in a school that specialises in teaching gifted children the Arts of the Mind, a discipline originally developed to control the mysterious concept referred to as ‘consciousness’. The school is run by a charismatic, yet mysterious man, known only as Teacher to his students. In the school the children learn to utilise subtle behavioural tools based on evolutionary laws that enable them to control untrained people. Julian’s life is built around discipline and order, but the choices made by others long ago are about to change his life forever. He is forced to face his innermost fears as his path unexpectedly crosses with one of the most respected scientists in the world.

‘Users of the Mind’ is a tale of the hidden aspects of human nature, the evolutionary ‘chains’ that bind us all and the will of Man to defeat Nature in order to avoid his own destruction. It is a study of the destructiveness of scientific ambition, the thin line between passion and obsession, and the bitter sacrifices that must be made to attain the highest goals.
One Reviewer Notes:
This book worked for me as a good novel should work; the subject matter is very interesting and I felt I actually learned some new things and points of view that I had not thought of before, related to topics such as why we react to certain things the way we do, how we can better understand people around us, how we can influence their perception of us etc. I warmly recommend this book to readers who love stories of science, emotional struggles and unusual human relationships.

One Reviewer Notes:
S.M. Kois is an author whose style appeals to me. Hard scientific facts combined with great sense of wonder. In the beginning a rare illness (which is both interesting and horrifying) is introduced to the reader through the eyes of the book's main character Charlie. It's an emotional story. Later the tone changes as odd things start happening and Charlie must consider deep questions such as possible existence of life after death. This is a more speculative part of the book. Whatever you may personally think about these matters, they are presented interestingly and are thought provoking. That's always a great thing about a book.

Here’s the set-up:

Julian is a student in a school that specialises in teaching gifted children the Arts of the Mind, a discipline originally developed to control the mysterious concept referred to as ‘consciousness’.
