900+ pages of comically crazy paranormal cozy mysteries.

Andy Caplet couldn’t follow a lead if it held him by the hand. With nothing better to do, Andy impulsively tags along on his new roommate’s decidedly abnormal investigations…

Inspector Hobbes deals with his stressful career by chomping on bones. He’s been using his mysterious powers to sniff out crime longer than Andy’s been alive, but even he can tell something extra unnatural is afoot. Having a partner may help him whether the wannabe vampires, wacky werewolves, and dastardly villains.

Can the crime-solving duo take down both human and unhuman criminals lurking in the shadows, or will they be consumed by metaphysical madness?

Here’s the set-up:

A reporter with nothing to lose. An inspector with something to hide. The Cotswolds’ newest odd couple is on the case…

Of all the journalists at his small-town paper, Andy Caplet is far and away the worst. At least he has a job. But when his latest expose on the strange and scandalous Inspector Hobbes backfires, Andy is left broke and homeless. The inspector’s offer of a spare room for a few days (or months) seems like the only option…

Andy agrees to accompany the inspector to investigate a sudden surge in crime and soon finds himself immersed in a world beyond humanity. It turns out that Inspector Hobbes eats raw bones, their housekeeper collects teeth, and their guests include trolls, dwarves, and ghouls. As Andy tries to piece together the inspector’s true identity, his new partner is hard at work solving unexplainable murders, suicides, and robberies. If they can’t learn to work together and solve the mystery in time, the chilling fate of their charming town will be sealed…

Inspector Hobbs and the Blood is the first book in a series of comedy crime fantasy novels. If you like intriguing characters, hilarious wit, and small-town whodunits with fantasy flair, then you’ll love Wilkie Martin’s fast-paced supernatural tale.

A fun, well written and very different ripping yarn.
This will never win any literary awards but it’s perfect for taking you away from the every day.
Inspector Hobbes is something a little more than human, his house keeper is an aging super cook and martial arts instructor – no, really.
He befriends and takes in an accident prone, unsuccessful, out of work journalist, who is not hero material and seems to fall over everything.
The adventures are fast paced and yes there are moments of laughing out loud.
Good fun all round.

This set is outstanding. The author is unique in his approach (trying not to spoil the fun, here), with comedic, well thought out detective stories. The genre needs Mr. Martin–especially the British side of it...” 5 star review
