Mixing aspects of many different types of writing with very effective detail, real-life local hometown references, and a solid action hero for a main character, White created a book that can only be described as exciting. And maybe suspenseful. And also thought-provoking, nostalgic, relevant, and even romantic. Several well-developed, intriguing and interesting main characters share the spotlight throughout the book, which is important because they also share the duty of telling the story to the reader. Their experiences, perspectives, and especially their varying levels of understanding of the same events are like a trail of bread crumbs leading us along through all of our wild deductions and attempts to guess at the background and predict the outcomes, until everything comes together in a full-fledged explosive finale.
