Here's the set-up:
Jake Bronson returns in Book II of the acclaimed thriller/adventure series by bestselling author, Richard Bard. Former combat pilot Jake Bronson believed the worst was behind him. But when a sophisticated terrorist cell shows up in his home town, he's drawn into a conflict that threatens the heart and soul of every mother in America. The bonds of love and loyalty are tested as Jake and his friends are swept into a deadly chase that takes them from the beaches of California, to the depths of the world's longest underground river, and finally to the remote jungles of the Venezuelan rain forest—where Jake discovers that it will take far more than his enhanced abilities to prevent what is coming.
One Reviewer Notes:
Brainrush II picks up several months after the events of the first novel. Jake Bronson still has the super brain he picked up during an MRI accident. It is still capable of speed reading, super speed, mathematical genius, telekinesis, limited telepathy, and total genius. He is settled down to a normal life with the love of his wife Francesca and their adopted daughter Sarafina. Of course, for Jake and his friends, a normal life is being on guard at all times against the brain implanted jihaadists while waiting for the doomsday event that Jake accidentally triggered the first go around. ... He imbues them [his characters] with personality, smarts, and humor, and then spends the rest of the novel putting them in scene after scene after scene of high octane peril that forces us to root for them. All the while he has several larger specters hovering in the wings...it's not enough that they must save themselves and their families, this cast is tasked with saving the entire world. It is like a serial adventure, an Indiana Jones film, where each time you catch your breath another twist is presented, our heroes are endangered and you force yourself to read just a little bit further to find out what happens next.
