Here's the set-up:
Who are the forgotten? They are those who bear the burden of the biggest divide there is. They are poor so that others can be rich. For centuries the rich and the poor lived side by side, only divided by wages and cities. And no one could have predicted that there would come a time where the divide would stretch to seas and lands. There were many signs, one after another. But it was too late when the forgotten realized that a single moment, a single decision could change everything they ever knew. Left in the broken ruins of Britain, the abandoned cities filled with toxic fumes becomes the only world the poor know. Here food is a luxury, survival the only motivation, until there no longer was a gap between man and monster. Sullivan was born in these lawless terrains. But it was only when he lost his post as a gang leader that he had to bear the reality of such a world without its mask, where hunger turned friends into enemies, and every decision was one of life or death.
About the Author
Since a young age Dantel Mullany was curious about the psychology of mankind, the ideologies that motivate them and the person behind the facade. And even when everything seems calm on the surface, everyone endures a silent struggle within.
The stories she tells place an importance on the characters, and the situations that are thrown at them that forces them to ask questions that they may have easily ignored before. No matter how simple or complex the situation, Dantel explores it in different depths and from different angles through the eyes of others. Not one voice dominates her stories, but many, who all see the same picture but have different interpretations.
Inspired by the increasing gap between the rich and the poor, Mullany delves into what it means to live on the edge, with Where the Forgotten Were Thrown, to ask the besetting questions of humanity.
