Here's the set-up:
Summer 1940:

Britain stands alone; its army smashed by the German blitzkrieg in France; the survivors barely rescued from the beaches of Dunkirk. In London, Winston Churchill remains defiant, trying desperately to rally the nation, determined to resist the Nazi invasion.

But not all in the cabinet share his view. Some believe there is no option but to seek a deal with Hitler.

Twenty miles away the Nazi armies stand ready. There are signs that Britain is weakening. The RAF has almost disappeared; there are reports of mutinies in the Royal Navy, peace marches, hints of disloyalty involving the Duke of Windsor. Britain is close to collapse.

Then the Nazis receive a message from London. An unknown group emerges and makes contact, seeking talks.

Who are these 'Realists'? Is there even a traitor inside the cabinet?

Who has sent an An Invitation to Hitler?
One Reviewer Notes:
The author has captured the personality of the lead characters, especially Churchill, very well, I thought, and I truly felt that I was standing beside him, smelling the smoke of his cigar while he bellowed at and manipulated his fellow politicians to submit to his will. The challenge and near disaster of the early stages of World War II are vividly brought to life here, and the realisation of how close Britain came to losing the war is made most (alarmingly!) clear.... for a thrilling read this is recommended.

About the Author
It was probably my father who first engendered my interest in World War 2. During the war he was a reserve officer in the Army, but as a schoolteacher he was not called to the front line. His role instead was to be ready to man the defence lines if the invaders ever reached the little country town where we lived.
Walking the byways around that town, years after the war ended, he could point out the tank traps and pillboxes still skulking there, festooned in weeds, waiting for the invader who never came. Even in a rural corner of Northern Ireland, hundreds of miles from the likely invasion sites in England, they had prepared.
My interest stayed passive during a long career in the technology industry, but with retirement came the opportunity to do more research. In Churchill's History of the Second World War, I discovered the sentence that took my story from pure speculative fiction, to the maybe, just maybe, category. As a genre, Alternative History can run the gamut from wild fantasy about goblins and death-ray machines to tight stories based on small quantum shifts in timing, facts, or outcomes; the assassin's bullet that missed; the flap of the butterfly's wings.
