As promised, we will be devoting our full attention to the Kindle enhancements that will be included in the Kindle Version 2.5.? software update when the update has been rolled out fully to Kindle owners. But we’d better stop projecting or guessing about the final date for a rollout that was originally scheduled for the end of May until Amazon apparently spied some flies in the ointment. Here’s the latest official word from Amazon:
Kindle Version 2.5 Overview
- Collections: Organize your books and documents into one or more collections.
- PDF Pan and Zoom: Zoom into PDFs and pan around to easily view small print and detailed tables or graphics.
- Password Protection: Password protect your Kindle when you’re not using it.
- More Fonts & Improved Clarity: Enjoy two new larger font sizes and sharper fonts for an even more comfortable reading experience.
- Facebook & Twitter Posts: Share book passages with friends on Facebook and Twitter directly from your Kindle.
- Popular Highlights: See what the Kindle community thinks are the most interesting passages in the books you’re reading.
The GTD list for the Kindle team is actually getting a tad crowded just now, with initiatives like audible menuing and the restructuring of the Kindle DTP relationship with authors and publishers promised to launch by June 30, serious buzz about a slimlined Kindle 3 in August and no firm date for the promised launch of a Kindle Apps department in the Kindle Store.
