Blu is a sensuous Afro-American with a tragic past and an unusual mystical energy that Ash resonates to. The two become lovers until Ash reveals that he had been crafted from these fearsome creatures. Blu becomes trapped in the war between The Argon and powerful Mystics, who drained worlds of magical life to create a dangerously addictive drug that enhances creativity. Yet the lovers never expect the explosive hatred and madness of Ash’s twin brother Set. As Ash goes on a desperate search for the only Mystic whom their father trusts, Set’s rage towards Blu detonates and his violence triggers centuries-old magic buried within her.

An Excerpt From  “A Time of Blood and Fire”

As if in a dream, Ash moved from room to room. Everything she’d owned, her paintings, the pictures left of her family, her brother’s trophies, her mother’s vast book collection on the occult, her father’s exotic plants, all were scorched beyond recognition.
“This… was a lovely dwelling,” he said to Myrddin in a tone reserved for places of the dead.
“Oh, I do see traces of the lives once led here. Their images flit before my eyes. There was much beauty and creativity here, yet the images are farther away than this calamity. This little home was dying before the flames took it.”
“Yes,” Ash agreed. “Blu went through much before we met.” He reached for the switch beside the door. When nothing happened, he spoke a spell into the room. The spell formed in the shape of a powdery ball of light. Once the spell had finished, the gossamer ball moved to the center of the room, illuminating nearly everything. His voice grew even quieter as he gazed at the horrific damage to the familiar comfort of her bedroom.

He spoke softly. “I’ve brought this upon her. She could’ve lived the life of a normal human if we’d never met.”
From further behind him, the Mystic answered. “From what you told me, she may only be a bit more human than yourself.”
Ash replied somberly, “That may be, Magician, that may be.”
The bedroom showed a moment frozen in time. It was a snapshot of horror, allowing him to experience his lover’s last terrifying moments in her beautiful bed. The richly colored walls were now fire scarred, the ceiling mostly black. Everything in the room had been touched by fire.
