The Handfasting by David Burnett

Handfasting: A Celtic ceremony of engagement or betrothal.

Here is what people are saying about The Handfasting:

“Once I started reading this, I just couldn’t put it down. In fact I continued reading until 3am as I was hooked!…It is not very often a book leaves a real imprint on me but Mr. Burnett has managed to do that to me with this book. I have to admit, I even shed a tear as the book was coming to its conclusion. Silly I know. It was not a slushy romance. It was a great read with a powerful storyline. If the author writes more books like this, I for one will buy them.” – The Ramblings of a Forty-Something Bookaholic

“The Handfasting is a book that left me with my jaw hanging open more than once (and I am not easily shocked!) David Burnett’s second book shows his ability to tell compelling stories about love lost and found again.” –Suzanne, Amazon Reviewer

“…an excellent read with a beautiful love story. It had my attention from beginning all the way to the end…David Burnett has done an amazing job writing this beautiful love story. It is well-written. The story line has love and tragedy all in one. I love it when a book has a happy ending. I definitely recommend my friends to read this awesome book.” – Len Phelps, As-You-Wish Reviews

Here’s the set-up:

Ten years had passed Since Katie had last seen Steven.

They had met that summer while traveling in Europe and they had fallen in love. Years of school lay ahead for them both, but before they parted, they had joined hands in the old Scottish abbey, pledging their love.

Steven had promised to come for her, and Katie prayed that he would, but as the tenth year drew to a close, she began to lose hope of ever seeing him again. Then, on her birthday, a vase of yellow roses appears at her door, an invitation to dinner tucked in among the flowers.

Steven is just as she remembered, and as they begin to date, they find themselves falling in love again, and they talk of marriage.

Steven, though, is not Katie’s only suitor. Bill has known her since high school and has long intended to marry her. He tells everyone of his plans, everyone except Katie. Bill finally realizes that she is in love with Steven, and he decides that he must formally stake his claim. When she refuses to pay him attention, his courtship becomes violent.

What happens next tests the love that Katie and Steven share as she must decide how much she will risk for the man she loves.

From David:

We recently moved to our new home on the coast of South Carolina. Two of my three books are set in low country, and I’ve always enjoyed the Carolina beaches. I now have the opportunity to walk on the beach near our home almost every day and to photography the ocean, the sea birds, and the marshes that I love. I enjoy writing, baking bread, and traveling!
