Here’s the set-up:
The main character in The Painted Veil, Kitty Fane, tells a lovely tale that allows the reader to experience a wide range of feelings and sentiments. She enjoys mingling with others because she has an outgoing nature, but due to the circumstances of her life, she is compelled to wed Walter Fane, who is quite the opposite of who she is.
