Here’s the set-up:
On May 13th 1939, five strangers boarded the ship, the MS St. Louis in Hamburg Germany, four of them were Jewish. Hitler promised these poor souls safe passage out of Nazi Germany and entrance into Cuba. Each of them paid an exorbitant amount of money to the Nazi government believing that they would be allowed to leave the terror and certain death of the rule of Hitler’s Third Reich behind. However, unbeknownst to them they were about to embark upon a voyage built on secrets, lies, and treachery. While their very lives hung in the balance, they would be forced to make unfathomable sacrifices and to learn the meaning of the bonds of friendship and love. The weeks that they would spend together on that voyage would change each of their lives forever in ways they could never have imagined. However, the voyage on the doomed MS. St. Louis was only the beginning. These five strangers would have a marked effect upon each other for the rest of their lives.
5-Star Amazon Reviews
“Kept me entranced in every chapter…”
“What an amazing account of people going to lengths we cannot fathom, to escape from Nazi Germany. Although the book is only part fiction, these characters were real enough to implore their struggles to us, the readers. Must read for anyone interested in history!”
