When the truth is your greatest danger, and the enemy knows the truth, things can only go downhill when the enemy finally gets the proof. And that’s the proof the Hashashin get when they steal what the Vatican doesn’t even know it has.

Now the infallible decrees of two Twelfth Century popes and three kings, stolen by the Hashashin, threaten to catapult the bigotry, bias, and religious blood baths of the Third Crusade straight into the Twenty-First Century.

When Templars Sean Callahan and Marie Curtis are drawn into the mess, they face an ancient enemy that has already nearly won the battle, a newly elected Mexican pope being undermined by entrenched Vatican powers, world class scholars who will sell their prestige to the highest bidder, and terrorists lingering over lattes in sidewalk cafes.

Moving from Rome to London, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia, Callahan and Curtis are desperate to find some way to stem the success the Hashashin are having enlisting the majority of moderate Muslims in their Jihad. Out-maneuvered at each step by the Hashashin, only a last ditch roll of the dice has any chance of success. But it’s the only chance they have.

From the reviewers:

I found The Templar Concordant to be a real fun read starting with the Templar’s in the middle ages and updating them to the present day where they are intertwined in modern day society. I think this is Terrence O’Brien’s first novel and I’d say he did a very good job, always fun to find new authors with their own unique voice.  –  “jackzvt”

My husband is really the historian in our family and loves everything Templar related. When this book came up on one of my searches, I jumped at it after reading the intro. Since he only reads on the weekends I thought I would read the book first. After starting it midday, I was reading well into the night and finally under the covers with my little kindle light. I could not put this book down. –  “kdl”

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found it enthralling and I couldn’t put it down. When I finished I read everything on Terrence O’Brien’s wet site to find out about the background of the Templars.  –  “ajq”

“I loved this book and am still kicking myself for resisting its sirencall for so long. The history and details woven skillfully into the action and well rounded characters made for an exciting read…” -Sandra Gilbert

If you enjoyed the DaVinci Code, this has a lot of the same elements – but it’s a bit more believable, so it’s easier to suspend disbelief and just go along with the story. As other reviewers have pointed out, an ancient treaty is discovered that could have huge ramifications for the modern world, the Catholic church, and Christianity in general.  –  Heather

From the Author:

The idea for the book began to grow a few years ago as news reports revealed more and more about Al Qaeda. What struck me was thefact that it had no national allegiance. It operated outside the established nation state system. Al Qaeda didn’t care what the government of Saudi Arabia, Syria, Pakistan, or Iran thought. It did whatever it wanted, and claimed to be doing it to further world-wide Islam.

So, I wondered what things would be like if there was an organization in the West that was also free from the governments of the West. How would they combat Al Qaeda? What kind of scene would play out across the world if that kind of group challenged Al Qaeda without worrying about media, Congressional hearings, appeals courts, public opinion, or the next election cycle?

Then I remembered there once was such a Western organization when the Knights Templars were active from 1120 to 1307. They answered to nobody, had the strongest military of the day, crossed borders at will, amassed a huge fortune, engaged in trade and commerce, and financed many of the monarchies.

So, why not bring the Templars forward in time, and let some escape the ambush by the King of France and the pope that destroyed them in 1307? And since the Templars were a creation of the Crusades and the Church, let those players come into the present day, too. And the Hashashin, a secretive branch of Islaimi Shiite Islam that excelled in covert operations? Let them escape their destruction by the Mongols in 1275, and come forward to the present day.

I also noticed news stories about the discovery of the Chinon Parchment from 1308 dealing with the Templar trials. The document had been misfiled in 1628 and was lost to history until an Italian researcher found it buried in the stacks of the Vatican Library in 2001. So the notion that things could get lost for hundreds of years in a library was definitely reasonable.

The result is The Templar Concordat. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Taker of Light, Eileen Cruz Coleman’s young adult debut, is a post-apocalyptic speculative fiction story inspired by the Brothers Grimm’s lesser-known fairytale, Godfather Death, in which Death raises a child who then betrays him.

When a deep darkness descends on Earth, sixteen-year-old Raylie must protect herself from the source of the darkness and from the aliens who are seeking to colonize Earth when their planet is destroyed.

Taker of Light is a novelette, approximately 14,500 words.

From the reviewer:

Okay, I may be a bit old to be reading a YA, but I did enjoy this.  The zombie trees, the hunger, the desolation. The author paints a very grim picture of this post-apocalypse Earth, or is it Earth? Eileen keeps you guessing all the way through the end.  –  “Whomever”

Bobby Weaver is a young writer with an unfinished novel: a murder mystery involving two strangers hiking on the Appalachian Trail who slowly fall head over heels for each other.

However, there’s a caveat to Bobby’s work — Bobby’s in a coma, deteriorating both physically and mentally while still painfully aware of what’s going on around him. As Bobby strives to tie up loose ends in his final story, if just for himself and his characters, the reader is given a glimpse of the life he’s left behind in the form of day-in-the-life vignettes of his family.

A vibrant, original story steeped in symbolism and family ties, this haunting debut explores the subtle ways lives are connected, broken, and renewed by love.

From the Author: The Story Behind the Book

One afternoon, while driving down a highway near my home, a large semi-truck suddenly swerved into my lane and cut me off. At that moment, I happened to be thinking about an important change I wanted to make in a book I was writing. As I headed for what I thought might well be that grand finale in the sky, I waited for the rush of Technicolor memories from my vanishing life to flash before my eyes.

Instead, my adrenaline-charged brain was only capable of processing one thought–if die right now, what will happen to my book? And then I wondered, what if I live but I’m badly injured in the accident, say left in a coma, could I still keep working on the book in my head? Nobody would know of course, but at least I could finish it!

As it turns out, my guardian angel must have been on her toes that afternoon, helping me to fearlessly guide my car up onto the narrow shoulder of the road long enough to let that bullying truck pass. Those few scary moments and peculiar rambling thoughts inspired this book, a spare, bittersweet story with an unexpected and poignant ending.

From the reviewers:

“Day has a knack for capturing the small details, with daily minutia presented to the reader in relatable snapshots of thrifty prose. Engrossing as a collection of shorts with a unifying theme…” -Kirkus Reviews

Just finished novel. Really enjoyed it ! Very, very clever! Would have helped if I’d had read the back cover blub first. Took a bit to figure out the characters’ relationships, but once I did, it turned into a “page turner.” Loved story within story. Can’t wait for the sequel! Congratulations ! –  Edward

IT’S BETTER THAN PERFECT — IT’S MAGIC.  Lilli Jolgren Day has a great sense of humor and shining wit that is revealed through her characters. This is her first venture into writing. Hope this Virgo woman graces us with more of her work. If you enjoy warm and cozy books, with sweet characters, this is a must read for you. –  Pamela A. Poddany

A wonderful quick read. The writer creatively captured the human spirit in characters interwined around loves lost and present in a short time frame. The novel was moving and a captivating celebration of life. It is a reminder that we have so little time and we should be fully open to every experience. – Lisa

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Colleen Collins’ HOW DO PRIVATE EYES DO THAT? is Our eBook of the Day at just $1.99, with 4.6 Stars on 7 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Colleen Collins’ How Do Private Eyes Do That?, just $1.99 on Kindle:

How Do Private Eyes Do That? is a compilation of articles about private investigations written by Colleen Collins, a professional private investigator. Its topics are geared to readers interested in the world of PIs, including fiction writers, researchers, investigators and those simply curious about the profession.

A supplement to the book is a chapter from How to Write a Dick: A Guide to Writing Fictional Sleuths from a Couple of Real-Life Sleuths, co-authored by Colleen Collins and Shaun Kaufman. This chapter describes numerous specializations in the field of private investigations, including legal investigations, infidelity investigations, pet detection, insurance investigations, personal injury investigations, executive protection and more.

From the reviewers:

“If you’re looking for the lowdown on private investigations, this is it. Packed with details and insights. A must-have for anybody writing private-eye fiction and for anybody who’s curious about what being a private-eye is really like.”  – Bill Crider, author of the Sheriff Dan Rhodes series and many other novels in multiple genres

“A must have for any writer serious about crafting authentic private eyes. Collins knows her stuff.”  – Lori Wilde, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author

I’ve also checked out the other book (How to Write a Dick), and wanted to know how this author, a PI like myself, did writing about the field. Liked the book more than I thought I would. She outlines investigative techniques which are useful for the public without compromising the field itself. Writing style is smooth. I’ve read articles written by other private investigators which are tough to understand because the person rambles on and on…in this book, Collins sticks to the topic and explains things well.  – “PI Guy”

Because I found the other nonfiction book by this author (which she co-wrote with Shaun Kaufman) “How to Write a Dick” great as a reference book for writing, I hoped “How Do Private Eyes Do That?” would be as helpful. It’s not a how to book in the strictest sense, but the articles provide lots of tips about private investigations (like finding someone’s cell phone number, researching a family trust, finding people — the kinds of things a writer might want their character to do in a story). There’s also a section of links to other helpful sites about private investigations. Two thumbs up!  –  DanaB

Tracy’s story telling career began when she picked up a copy of LaVyrle Spencer’s Vows on a college beach trip. A journalism degree and a thousand romance novels later, she decided to try her hand at writing a southern version of the perfect love story. With a great deal of luck and more than a bit of perseverance, she sold her first novel to Kensington Publishing.

When not writing sensual stories featuring complex characters and lush settings, Tracy can be found reading romance, snowboarding, watching college football and figuring out how she can get to 100 countries before she kicks (which is a more difficult endeavor than it used to be with her four-year-old son in tow). She lives in the south, but after spending a few years in “the city,” considers herself a New Yorker at heart.

Tracy has been awarded the National Reader’s Choice, the Write Touch and the Beacon – with finalist nominations in the HOLT Medallion, Heart of Romance, Rising Stars and Reader’s Choice. Her books have been translated into German, Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish. She loves hearing from readers about why she tends to pit her hero and heroine against each other and about that great novel she simply must order in five seconds on her Kindle.
