“”The dialogue is crisp, the jokes are funny and the setting as nutty as any city slicker can believe.

–Margaret Cannon, Globe & Mail

Here’s the set-up:

With its seven-foot snakes and nasty horses, Florida ranch country can be as dangerous as the mean streets of any big city. Sherri Travis doesn’t do country. She likes it even less when she meets Clay Adams’ psychotic neighbors and finds a dead man in the back of her pickup. With fairy lights dancing through the Spanish moss and violent men closing in, the surprise birthday party Sherri plans for Clay turns deadly. And while it isn’t the party Sherri hoped for, it’s a good one just the same.

One Reviewer Notes:

“This is the 4th of what I hope are many more mysteries involving Sherri Travis… Sherri’s wit gets sharper, funnier and yes, scarier. She’s a strong minded woman who’s not at all reluctant about saying her mind… which can/does lead to trouble. Author’s description of Florida is so right on accurate, it’s difficult to believe she isn’t a native Floridian. Not just the coastal life either… deeply into Florida. It’s perfect. WRITE ON, Phyllis!

–Ezlypist

Our Kindle eBook of the Day: Victoria Allman’s SEAsoned: A Chef’s Journey With Her Captain is a hilarious look at a yacht chef’s first year working for her husband while they cruise from the Bahamas to Italy, France, Greece and Spain. 4.9 Stars on 14 Straight Rave Reviews!

Here’s the set-up for Victoria Allman’s SEAsoned: A Chef’s Journey With Her Captain, 4.9 stars on 14 straight rave reviews, just $6.15 on Kindle:

Victoria’s Recipe for Marriage: Take two adventurous newlyweds and place them on a floundering yacht where the wife is the chef and her boss, the captain, is also her husband.

Add two inexperienced crew members, an anorexic diva and her bully of a husband, a CEO who thinks he’s in charge, a drunken first mate, and a randy wife looking for diversion. Stir with a violent storm and a rapidly flooding engine room. Apply pressure and watch the situation simmer to a boil.

Sprinkled with over 30-mouthwatering recipes and spiced with tales of adventure, SEAsoned is the hilarious look at a yacht chef’s first year working for her husband while they cruise from the Bahamas to Italy, France, Greece and Spain, trying to stay afloat.

From the reviewers:

A culinary delight for the reader. — Readers’ Favorite

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun blend of memoir, cookbook, and the joy of sailing. – Midwest Book Review

From chapter to chapter, I remained mesmerized as she recounted the splintered docks, the $5,000 vegetable runs, and the incredible Greek taxi drivers; as she weathered squalls created by nature and by blue bloods; and as she shared wonderful recipes like gastronomic gifts of the sea gods. I’d recommend this book for anyone who likes to laugh, play or eat, and especially to those who enjoy doing all three on the water! – Den Bailey

Didn’t think it was possible, but mega-yacht chef Victoria Allman has topped her first outing as an author with her latest book, ”SEAsoned: A Chef’s Journey with Her Captain.” It has everything: ocean-going adventure, fantastic food, even a touch of sweet romance. — Deborah Sharp

Once you start reading this book you become capivated by the humorous character depictions! – LHP Bookclub

Victoria Allman has been following her stomach around the globe for twelve years as a yacht chef. She wrote about her floating culinary odyssey through Europe, the Caribbean, Nepal, Vietnam, Africa and the South Pacific in her first book, Sea Fare: A Chef’s Journey Across the Ocean.

Victoria is a columnist for Dockwalk, an International magazine for crew members aboard yachts. Her column, Dishing It Up, is a humorous look at cooking for the rich and famous in an ever-moving galley.

She also regularly contributes tales of her tasty adventures to Marina Life Magazine and OceanLines.

You can read more of her food-driven escapades through her web-site at www.victoriaallman.com

Rumpel is a dark, complicated book with many layers and pieces… I’m only disappointed that I can’t give it more stars.

–DarkReader

Here’s the set-up:

Why did Rumpelstiltskin want a baby? What was he going to do with it once he got it? What was his childhood like? What was his world like? Who were the people in his life? How could he spin straw into gold?

Rumpel is the dark and quirky retelling of the Brothers Grimm Rumpelstiltskin which answers all of these questions and more.

While Rumpelstiltskin forged ahead with his plan, a battle between his world and another world was brewing, and a forbidden romance between a prince and a common girl was being tested. In the end, the spinning wheel will determine the fates of everyone.

One Reviewer Notes:

“Eileen Cruz Coleman’s RUMPEL has given new life to the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. In Ms. Coleman’s version the devious Rumpelstiltskin still strikes a deal with a poor miller: a magic spinning wheel that turns straw into gold in exchange for his unsuspecting daughter’s first born. But from royalty and common folk to spirits, trolls, witches, and angels, there’s so much more to the tale this author weaves, one that in many ways parallels the injustice of modern society–misuse of power, forbidden romance, unyielding discrimination, and poverty at its worse. RUMPEL is a must read for anyone who enjoys a thought-provoking escape into Old World fantasy.

–Loretta Giacoletta

Bonus!

Rumpel now includes an excerpt from Eileen Cruz Coleman’s upcoming novel, Salted Earth, a post-apocalyptic, steampunkish, Young Adult retelling of the Brothers Grimm Godfather Death.

Kindle Nation Bargain Book Alert: Think “Harry Potter in the South Pacific” with a captivating female heroine, prepare for danger, and hold on for a wild, fully imagined ride in our eBook of the Day: Lisa Bird’s CUTTING THE NET – 5 stars, just $2.99 on Kindle!

Here’s the set-up for Lisa Bird’s Cutting the Net, 5 stars, just $2.99 on Kindle:

The cave breathes her name. Like a siren singing on a lonely beach, it calls her into its numbing center. And what’s worse, Elizabeth Lawson can’t seem to resist it. Like a friend it welcomes her and allows her a place to hide in secret from a world she doesn’t understand. Like a drug it creeps under her skin, leaving her shaking with need. What starts out as an escape becomes an obsession and quickly graduates into an addiction. Escaping her father’s recent death and a move halfway across the world to the Solomon Islands – a place she had never heard of before – she grasps for anything that might make her feel normal again.

The windy shadows stalk her, calling her back to pay tribute every day – and each day she returns like an obedient child. She finds herself venturing deeper and deeper into the darkness. Human skulls stacked in a pyramid next to the entrance of the cave don’t frighten her away. Drawings burned into the edges of the rocky walls depicting entire villages being cruelly murdered by a winged headhunter don’t sway her focus.

She explores until at last she finds a beaded net that shimmers in the light covering a doorway to the dark depths of the inner cave. She has a choice. She makes it quickly. But when she slices the net to obtain a strand of beads, she awakens an evil that makes death seem like a kind friend. As the shadows begin to swirl around her, she realizes her mistake a second too late.

From the reviewers:

Harry Potter in the South Pacific! In this captivating story, Lisa Bird tells of how Elizabeth and her three younger brothers move to live with their aunt and uncle in the Solomon Islands after some untold tragedy with their parents. There she encounters and unwittingly releases an evil spirit that attacks her, giving her magical powers. She joins up with the local good guys who are dedicated to fighting this evil, and much adventure–and romance–ensues. A great story, made even better by the author’s description of living in the Solomon Islands, so vivid that it seemed like she had lived there herself. — Bookreader

This is the first book in a amazing new trilogy and I already can’t wait to read more! The story pulls you in and sweeps you away to a tropical paradise where mythical creatures come to life. The combination of mystery, action, and young love keeps you turning the pages, eager to see what happens next. – Jaclyn C. Gotch

This is a wonderful book from a first time author who possesses the storyteller’s gift. I could not put the book down once I started reading it. The author creatively weaves together traditional myth with modern day characters resulting in a story with adventure, discovery, and love. I highly recommend this book and look forward to future books by this author. – Avid Reader

“Ms. Stella has penned a fun and light hearted read, which was a pure pleasure to read. Fun characters, and storyline made this a quick “Perfect for Anytime” read.

–Kristi Ahlers, Top 500 Reviewer

Here’s the set-up:

A man with a plan, a woman with a dream — two hearts on fire! In this spirited, contemporary romance, undercover agent Jack Benton is on a mission to save his beloved aunt’s failing dolphin facility in the Florida Keys. He’s positive he can close a deal, until his sassy Aunt Ruby accepts the research proposal of world-renowned marine mammal scientist Dr. Vic Sheffield. Now, Jack must cooperate with the project or break Ruby’s heart.

More than the Keys’ temperature heats up when Victoria Sheffield finesses her way into the facility under her famous father’s name, hoping to finally establish her own reputation. A lifetime of behavioral observation hasn’t prepared her for a suspicious, sexy homo-sapien like Jack. She’ll need every point of her elevated I.Q. to out-wit this wily alpha male. He knows she’s hiding something and, in the meantime, more than his suspicions are aroused.

One Reviewer Notes:

“Severely injured on the job, DEA Undercover Agent Jack Benton is on medical leave recuperating at Dolphin Land in the Florida Keys. His beloved Aunt Ruby Maguire, a widow of six months, owns the dilapidated facility that Jack wants to sell to developers so the woman who raised him could live a pampered life. Ruby refuses to sell because the six dolphins who reside in the lagoon are family to her. Instead she agrees to allow Delphind Prize winner Dr. Vic Sheffield to conduct research here.

Vic is actually Victoria as she uses her ailing father’s name to research the cooperative communication between Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. Victoria and Jack are attracted to one another, but he remains suspicious of her motives though he finds her energy quite exhilarating. As her research takes focus and she falls in love with Jack, his aunt, and the sextet of dolphins, Victoria has money problems and worse her ex is trying to blackmail his way onto her study; he stole her work on their so-called collaborative efforts. Jack will do anything including give up undercover work and stop a sleazy rat when it comes to his Vic.

About the Author

A voracious book fan since first learning to read, I fell in love with romance novels while pursuing my B.A. degree in English decades ago. A professional writer since someone first paid me to write radio commercials while I was still in college, I always dreamed of writing a book someday.

All Keyed Up, a humorous contemporary romance set at a dolphin facility in the Florida Keys with a determined researcher and a stubborn DEA agent, is my debut novel, originally published in print format a few years ago. Key of Sea, published a year later, proves that an ex-trophy wife can create a new life for herself, find love again with a younger man, and successfully battle land crabs.
