Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Donna White Glaser’s THE ENEMY WE KNOW is our eBook of the Day at just $2.99, with 4.7 Stars on 32 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Donna White Glaser’s The Enemy We Know, just $2.99 on Kindle:

Psychotherapist Letty Whittaker, a professional secret keeper, has a secret of her own. When one of her clients slips free from an abusive boyfriend, Letty becomes the target of his violent rage.

Wayne invades Letty’s life, slithering his way past the barriers erected between her personal and professional lives, leaving gifts of dead rats, mutilated dolls, and freaky Shakespearian sonnets. Worst of all, Wayne uncovers Letty’s deepest shame, infiltrating her AA group and threatening to expose her to the state licensing board.

And then–good news–Wayne is murdered. The bad news? The police suspect Letty. Worse yet, the sonnets and bloody souvenirs keep coming. Someone else has been watching Letty. Someone eager to drop bodies at her feet like a cat offering dead mole trophies to his mistress.

From the reviewers:

The Enemy We Know is an intriguing, funny, and moving story peopled with characters you will remember long after the last page. If Letty lived in my neighborhood I’d buy her a virgin margarita and talk about all the people we know who are just as odd as we are.”  -Lois Greiman, award winning author of Unzipped

I love any book that starts right off with exciting action. And this one certainly delivered. To put it simply: This author had me at hello. Because it was written in the first person, you find yourself becoming a silent partner to Letty. You only know what she knows and when she knows it. You have to figure out the who and why right along with her. This puts you right in the story and I loved being there.   –  J. Miller

Great story with plenty of tension and action,  told with a dash of humor. We love Letty.   –  Marla Madison

Letty is a great character, mixing humor with pathos just like real people without any of the silliness that often ruins a story for me. This book felt real, right up to the end–we understand that life doesn’t just get better when the murder is solved and the drinker is resolved.  P. Herring

Someone willing to kill again.

I’m a psychotherapist/office manager/writer, not always in that order. Some folks wonder why a therapist would gravitate toward writing mysteries. It’s the people thing. Both of my passions deal with relationships and exploring the past to gain a deeper understanding–and, perhaps, better control of–the present.

My favorite quote is by Oscar Wilde: “The final mystery is oneself.” It seems to cover facets of both my careers. So I stole it.

I’m also a wife and a mother of two beautiful children. Three, if you count the husband; usually I do. We own and operate a residential construction company. He swings the hammer; I do the marketing, the paperwork, and deal with any overly emotional, what-do-you-mean-you-can’t-put-roof-trusses-up-in-a-thunderstorm? clients. Strangely enough, I often come up with ideas for creative murders and hiding bodies during business hours. I mention this for no reason at all.

THE ENEMY WE KNOW is the first in the Letty Whittaker 12 Step series. I’m hoping to earn enough money to provide orthodontics for my English bulldog, Belle. I hope you enjoy reading ENEMY as much as I loved writing it.

From the reviewers:

Pulse is the first in Ms. Gow’s latest and greatest vampire series. Though her books are aimed toward the young adult age range, the writing style of this author easily captivates an extensive age range and genre audience.  –  A. Pohren

Fun Romance with Bite.  It’s a fun paranormal read that reminds me somewhat of the Vampire Diaries series at least as far as the love triangle between the girl and the good vs. bad brother. If you are a fan of Vampire Diaries, you will love this story.   –  Kris “krissyp8”

This series is filled with everything you want. Hot vampires, romance, action, fighting over a beautiful girl ECT. I recommend this series to everyone who loves vampires.  –  Morgan

Here’s the set-up for Skye Savoy’s Waking Up Dead, just $4.99 on Kindle:

Before death came to collect Ava Berry in the form of one mouth-watering fallen angel named Suriyel, she was a newly divorced, 51-year-old caterer with a passion for all things Elvis and Paula Deen. Thanks to Suriyel and his magic amulet, she’s now in the body of her 20-something niece who died on the same night. Ava’s hell-bent on catching a killer even if it means not being heaven-bound anymore.

Fending off a possessed dumpster and an Elvis impersonator while dealing with her deceased mother who’s back as her pimped-out, Hoverround®-riding, guardian angel, are a lot easier than keeping her heart away from Suriyel. The soul-collector risks being thrown back into the center of the earth so he can protect and teach Ava to use the powers of the amulet. Good thing, too, because she soon finds herself using it to save his life and what remains of her lineage.

From the reviewers:

Waking up Dead is a roll with the punches quirky tale full of funny anecdotes, tantalizing desires and an adventure of a lifetime…  Danielle, Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance & More

Sexy and funny read.  This book has it all- a hot fallen angel and a fiesty, mature heroine. The guardian angel reminds me of Vicki Lawrence’s character, “Mama.” It wasn’t the dark read I expected. It was great fun.  –  R.J. Hill

Syke Savoy began her creative writing at an early age in her hometown of Pensacola, Florida. The first award-winning story she wrote at the ripe age of fourteen involved the antics of a klutzy Driver’s Ed student named Louise. Upon embarking on her career in marketing, her writing took a turn toward the professional. Her unquenchable thirst to complete a novel started during her pregnancy with her daughter.

Skye now calls Mississippi home. She spends her time making up stories about fairies for her daughter and stories about where those new shoes came from for her husband. She remains active being stereotyped as a dumb blonde in a murder mystery dinner theatre troupe for which she’s written several plays. Currently, Skye is working on a third paranormal novel.

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Rebecca Forster’s KEEPING COUNSEL is our eBook of the Day at just $2.99, with 4.3 Stars on 12 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Rebecca Forster’s Keeping Counsel, just $2.99 on Kindle:

New Mexico attorney Tara Linley has always believed in the power and fairness of the law. All that changes when she takes on her best friend’s lover as a client. It is only after she reluctantly agrees to represent him that Tara discovers the real reason Bill Hamilton has sought her out – and the shocking crime he has committed.

Tara wants to warn her friend that her life might be in danger, but is bound by attorney-client privilege. Caught in a web of escalating circumstances that threatens not only her professional reputation but her life, Tara soon finds herself at the mercy of her dangerously unstable client…a man who is growing more dangerous every day.

From the reviewers:

Page-turning legal thriller with a true moral center. As an attorney, I’ve read a lot of legal thrillers, and R.A.Forster’s KEEPING COUNSEL ranks with the best. This story moves. From the outset, we are pulled into the moral dilemma faced by Tara Linley, the lawyer who meets her best friend’s new lover only to find herself ensnared by this charming man into defending him against criminal prosecution for a horrifying murder.  Surely her best friend’s safety is more important than some technical vow [lawyer-client privilege] she took when she was sworn in as a lawyer. But how can she live with herself if she doesn’t honor the system she has sworn to uphold?  –  nwmd85

Intense legal thriller. My husband recommended this book and I couldn’t put it down. This is a well paced legal thriller with a villian who stayed with me long after I stopped reading. Throughout the book I couldn’t figure out if he was crazy or just evil, but either way he was really creepy.  –  Carole

Tense, psychological/legal thriller.  If the prologue doesn’t suck you in, you shouldn’t be reading this genre. This is an incredible psychological/legal thriller that kept me anxiously turning pages late into the night. The title refers to the attorney-client privilege of secrecy and the charming, yet deadly protagonist in Keeping Counsel knows how to use it  –  Bruce R. Raterink

I marketed a world-class spa when it was still called a gym and did business in China before there were western toilettes at the Great Wall. Then I wrote a book on a crazy dare and found my passion.

Now, I am a USA Today best selling author with more than 20 books to my name – and if you ask me where all those words came from I’d be hard pressed to tell you. All I know is that I wake up with a story in my head and go to bed the same way.

My specialty is legal thrillers and The Witness Series, featuring my beach-rat, volleyball playing attorney Josie Bates and her teenage ward Hannah, have really captured readers’ imaginations. But I also like to stretch the thirller genre a bit. Before Her Eyes, for instance, has a fantasy overlay on a murder mystery that I really found intriguing. Wilde’s Gamble is a romantic suspense.

I teach at UCLA Writers Program and work with The Young Writers Conference, a program that helps motivate middle school children to explore the power of words. I think I am particularly drawn to kids and writing because both my sons have always had a passion for it. Eric is a playwright and Alex is in film.

When I’m not writing I’m traveling, on a tennis court, working a sewing machine or reading. Thank you so much for taking a look at my author page. You can find out more about me, my travels and my work-in-progress at www.rebeccaforster.com

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Alan Nayes’ GARGOYLES (RESURRECTION TRILOGY BOOK 1) is our eBook of the Day at just $2.99 With 4.8 Stars on 8 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Alan Nayes’ Gargoyles (Resurrection Trilogy Book 1) just $2.99 on Kindle :

Brilliant pre-med student Amoreena Daniels needs money. Desperately. Her mother is dying of cancer and her medical insurance has run out. When a seemingly perfect women’s clinic offers Amoreena a generous payment for service as a surrogate mother, Amoreena thinks her prayers have been answered. But then–much too early–her baby begins to move. The strange dreams, another surrogate’s mysterious death and a drug-addicted former medical intern confirm Amoreena’s worst suspicions: there is something terribly wrong with the pregnancy.

Amoreena embarks on a dangerous journey to uncover the truth behind the endless battery of genetic tests, sonograms, and frightened patients, only to discover that she has unwittingly become a pawn in a high-stakes game of biomedical experimentation.

GARGOYLES is the first book in the sci-fi RESURRECTION TRILOGY series. PLAGUE is book two and RESURRECTION book three.

GARGOYLES–approx 106,000 words/400 pages

From the reviewers:

This book is best summed up as the scientific Rosemary’s Baby, which also means it kicks serious ass. Even people who find pregnancy to be a miracle (people who I completely do not understand) are creeped out by a pregnancy gone awry. This basic storyline then is ideal for a modern update aka switch out the demons and Satanism for science. Unfortunately the climax doesn’t quite live up to the excellent idea, but the cliffhanger ending leaves the reader eagerly anticipating the next entry in the series.  –  A. McNeil

The overall premise is eerie but you do have to suspend belief to thoroughly enjoy the book. I would definitely recommend this book to those who enjoy medical thrillers and I do plan to read the second book in the series although I am unsure how it really fits into a series.  –  Mary Bower

This book is a real page turner. I couldn’t wait to see what happened at the end of the book. I wasn’t disappointed. I liked the book so much, I recommended for my book club and it was a hit. I can’t wait to read the sequel!  –  M. Harrison

There’s something to be said for a book that begins with action and doesn’t stop until the last page has been turned. The reader gets that–and more–with Gargoyles.  Nayes has woven a tale that can just as much make your heart race as it makes you angry with an unethical world.   –  Heather Marie Adkins

I live in Southern California but still consider myself part Texan by birthright. I was born in Houston and grew up in Dallas. I’ve resided in California since the mid 1980’s but get back to Texas as much as possible. My first two published novels–GARGOYLES and THE UNNATURAL are biomedical thrillers. Actually THE UNNATURAL could also fall into the horror genre as it is a pretty bizarre tale. BARBARY POINT is a love story about a successful young woman who falls in love with a fishing guide. It was written on a suggestion from a former agent.

I have several other projects in the works. HEMLOCK POND is a horror story about a young woman and her son who move into a farmhouse with a haunted pond.

GIRL BLUE, another pretty bizarre story, is about a world renowned sculptor who becomes haunted by his last work. Oh did I mention the sculptor is terminally ill?

SMILODON is the story of a huge cat that terrorizes a small town in the majestic Pacific Northwest. This one will grab you and not let go–yeah, that sounds like a cat.

PLAGUE is the riveting sequel to GARGOYLES. Fasten your seat belts, close your eyes and pray like hell because the world as we know it is coming to an end.

My favorite football team is the Superbowl champs GREEN BAY PACKERS. Sorry Cowboys. But when GB is not on the gridiron–Go Dallas! Great Cheerleaders, too!

I enjoy the outdoors and as a side note I’m one of only a few individuals to ever swim across Wisconsin’s chilly Lake Winnebago. Does this make me a better writer–probably not.

When I’m not working on my next project, I enjoy relaxing and fishing at our family vacation home in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Think “THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY” updated to the streets of 21st-century Seattle and you begin to conjure up the imaginative magic of James E. Lalonde’s HOLOTAR – our eBook of the Day at just 99 Cents, With 4.8 Stars on 9 Reviews! Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for James E. Lalonde’s Holotar: Last Queen of The White Shamans, just 99 Cents on Kindle :

Walter Winkler is a Seattle street kid who can Google Minds. Not that he can help it. Who wants to know what people are really thinking?

His shelter shrink dismisses Mind Googling as mere schizophrenia and worse, intends to ‘cure him” if he keeps having “delusions” of getting sucked into other people’s heads.

Nicknamed ‘Pinball,’ Walter has a gift for seeing inside games, too. He doesn’t play by the rules. He plays with the code. Avoids the monsters. Always beats the game.

Then Walter is lured into testing “Holotar: Last Queen of the White Shamans,” a new kind of holographic fantasy game designed by a mad Russian. Walter is beguiled into promising the ‘Last Queen’ that he will rescue her child being held captive in Siberia. He also discovers that the game has been hacked by a very real monster, an ancient psychopath unleashed into the new world of massively multiplayer online games and social networks, who is preying on young gamers – like him.

Walter sets out on a journey from Seattle to Siberia and back to fulfill his promise to the Queen and to help the gamers find their monster before it finds him. The odyssey propels him Googling through the minds of a cast of eccentric characters, including Paolo, a Brazilian game executive with a past; Leggs, a rehabbed homeless teen prostitute; and unfortunately, into the mind of a twisted monster named Gvlek.

Holotar: Last Queen of the White Shamans is an urban fantasy, psychological thriller. There are consequences for creating and unleashing real and imagined monsters. Because sometimes, once they get in your head, monsters just won’t die.

From the reviewers:

Weird, wacky and wonderful.  Lalonde’s debut novel is a fascinating ride into the inner world of a street kid whose talent for “googling minds” takes the reader on a thrilling trip in and out of a next-generation game where there are only two ways out of the labyrinth – winning or dying.  –  Jane Adams

Original, wild and insightful  … wild and fast-paced fantasy thriller that’s as hard to put down as it is well-written. Lalonde’s narrator is orginal, smart and vulnerable, offering insights into the nature of reality, sanity and what it means to be human. Highly recommended.  –  JoAnne

A guilty pleasure.  Holotar hurls the reader deep into a richly-imagined world of a troubled gamer prodigy who makes a fateful promise to a dying queen in a next-generation game-gone-bad. Gut-wrenching (literally!) monsters, Russian oligarchs and mobsters introduce wicked chaos at every turn. Not for the dainty or faint-hearted.  –  Nancy

James E. Lalonde was a technology and business journalist at the Seattle Times, KING 5 News and was involved in the startup of half adozen software and digital media companies in the Pacific Northwest.

As a kid in Montana, Lalonde learned to love words reading the dictionary. He was a science nerd who placed Third in Applied Physics at the International Science Fair. He started off writing fiction out of college, but soon fell off the literary wagon to become a journalist. After attending university for a year abroad in Italy, he maintained a passion for the country and some of his writing is set there. He was a Gelato maker for several years. More recently, he has worked with the homeless and mentally ill as a counselor, researching Holotar: Last Queen of the White Shamans.

Lalonde received the William T. Costello Poetry Award while at Gonzaga University, and he was a finalist in the 2011 Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest for Poetry. Holotar: Last Queen of the White Shamans, was a finalist in the 2010 Northwest Writers Association Literary Contest for Urban Fantasy Sci-Fi.

“I believe that every voice has a story that deserves to be heard and that often it is the unheard voice that is most profound,” says Lalonde. “As these voices speak to me, I try to remember what Plato said: ‘Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle…'”

James lives in Seattle and is the father of three daughters. His wife is a fellow journalist. He is currently working on the next book in his ‘Mind Googling’ series.
