Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Diana Estill’s WHEN HORSES HAD WINGS is our eBook of the Day at just $2.99 with 4.7 Stars on 7 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Good news for thousands of readers who have laughed and cried along with Diana Estill, and have also wondered “When is this woman going to write a novel?”

Here’s the set-up for Diana Estill’s When Horses Had Wings, just $2.99 on Kindle:

Pregnant at 16, Renee Goodchild drops out of school and marries. Now she’s trapped in rural Texas with Kenny, her violent, garbage-collecting husband. A bleak future seems assured until she meets self-appointed relationship guru, Pearly.

“That’s why you don’t let ‘em rule the roost. ’Cause you can’t count on ‘em to be there the next mornin’ when it’s time to crow,” the worldly Pearly advises.

Renee narrates this tale of ruin and redemption where the damaged and downtrodden lead each other to unintended, sometimes heartbreaking, and often bittersweet outcomes. When Horses Had Wings examines the lives of broken people competing for the most basic needs: the primal urge for affection and the eternal search for acceptance

From the reviewers:

While “When Horses Had Wings” is certainly a poignant tale, it is not a depressing, oppressive book. This is largely due in part, I think, to the wonderful prose found in the story. Ms. Estill is a true wordsmith and not only did I enjoy the actual story itself, it was a separate pleasure just to read the words.  –  Melanie Frazier

My emotions ran the gamut…from anger to sadness to hope, and even laughter at Diana’s wit. An emotionally charged read from the moment I began until I finished in only a few hours. I’ve never been to Texas, but Diana’s words let me taste the dust and feel the heat of long summers in her native state. Without doubt, this is a book I highly recommend.  –  Karen Rankowitz

As a formerly battered wife, I’ve read all kinds of takes on the bad situations hostile marriages can contain. This book was pretty much right on, with a wonderful first person narrative by Renee, a very young articulate woman, trapped by a teenage pregnancy, no diploma and an angry young husband.   If you like Fannie Flagg, Billie Letts, Wally Lamb and Kaye Gibbons, give this new novelist a read. Hope, personal fortitude and perseverance rise to the top here, and I look forward to Ms. Estill’s next fiction work.   –  Suzanne Deal-Fitzgerald

“When Horses Had Wings” is not written as a memoir, but the voice of Renee is true enough, as the narrator to the story, to make you forget it’s fiction and believe it is real. Sadly, the story is not a new one. Many women and men, boys and girls, really, face the reality of becoming parents too soon, pledging their lives with to one another and then living in failed dreams. Estill writes this story with clarity and honesty which makes the end wholly satisfying.  –  Judi C.

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Kris Langman’s THE GOSTYNIN SHUL is our eBook of the Day at just 99 Cents, with 6 out of 7 Rave Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Kris Langman’s The Gostynin Shul, just 99 cents on Kindle:

The Gostynin Shul – A Yiddish history mystery

Dr. Joanna Adelman leads a quiet life. She takes walks with her seeing-eye dog, Delilah, and tries to survive her Grandmother’s amateur attempts at Japanese cooking. Her work as a Yiddish translator adds small details to the story of Jewish immigration to Boston, but has never been the most exciting of careers. Until the Zielinski documents.

They arrive in her office one morning – a jumble of handwritten pages in a cardboard box. Suddenly Joanna finds herself fending off an enraged Hasidic group intent on preserving its reputation, and a Boston society matron desperate to preserve her family’s wealth and status.

With the help of Ming Leibowitz, her Chinese-Israeli assistant, and Dr. Phillipa Henderson, a colleague specializing in African-American culture, Joanna delves into the layered history of Boston’s Beacon Hill and the fight over a small plot of land once owned by former slaves. The centuries-old struggle of Boston’s marginalized Jews and African-Americans to find a place to call home reignites in modern-day Boston, and old hatreds threaten to break a community apart.

From the reviewers:

I found the story to be very enjoyable and fast-paced. It kept my attention throughout, and I read it eagerly wanting to see what happened next. I hope there will be more books in this series because I would like to read more about this character.   –  Kenetha Stanton

I really liked the story. There is great potential for a series. It was interesting learning about the different ethnic groups in Boston. The only thing that I was not impressed with is the ending. I won’t ruin it for everyone but I will say that it was blunt and a let down. Beyond that, I will be keeping my eyes out for other stories from Kris Langman.  –  J Bronder

This quirky mystery novel mixes intriguing characters with a fast-moving plot. There’s an old Hasidic guy bent on revenge, a wealthy woman with too much money and too little humanity, a blind Yiddish translator, a Chinese-Israeli chemistry student, and a guide dog with a touchy stomach. The plot revolves around an old synagogue in Boston and the valuable land underneath it. The Lowells, one of Boston’s oldest families claims to own the land, as do an African-American senator and a Hasidic group which originally immigrated to Boston in the 1800’s. The mixture of history and suspense makes this a fun read.  –  Wander

Here’s the set-up for Kathryn Shay’ s Bayview Heights Trilogy, just $6.99 on Kindle:

Welcome to three of Kathryn Shay’s high school dramas. A teacher in a public school for years, she knows kids and the men and women who teach them!

“Few authors can turn such a biting social commentary into an uplifting novel. Ms. Shay does this with the best books of the year.”

–Affaire de Coeur

Bayview Heights has one of the best educational systems in the state due to the dedication of teachers, administrators and the community. But they have their problems, too. Gangs are encroaching from the city, the town newspaper is criticizing them, and an angry board member objects to some innovative classes. These issues frame three intense romances where teachers must overcome personal issues as well as professional ones.

In Cop of the Year, Captain Mitch Lansing is assigned to Cassie Smith’s high school classroom and sparks fly. He’s by-the-book, and she’s unorthodox and innovative in her teaching methods. But when Mitch develops an unstoppable bond with her students, Cassie finds her attraction to him irresistible. “An emotionally powerful tale that leaves you breathless.” RT Book Reviews

In Because It’s Christmas, high school principal Seth Taylor is a hero to most people in town. But Seth has never forgotten the mistakes he made years ago with his students. And neither has Lacey Cartwright, because one involved her brother. But attraction then love flares between them and Lacey fears she’ll she loose what’s left of her family. “Rich characterizations and emotional intensity.” RT Book Reviews

In Count on Me, Zoe Caufield and Kurt Lansing were once deeply in love—until he betrayed her. Now, Kurt’s back in Bayview Heights, running a clinic where her students volunteer, and he wants another chance with Zoe. But she’ll never trust him again, and there’s nothing he can do to win her back. Or is there? “A fascinating and emotionally gripping story.” RT Book Reviews

In Cop of the Year (4.5 Gold Medal), master storyteller Kathryn Shay pens an emotionally powerful tale that leaves you breathless. Woven into this riveting plot are wonderfully written characters that grab your heart and don’t let go. Bravo Ms. Shay! RT Book Reviews

Winner of Best Superromance of the Year, the Golden Leaf Award and the Desert Quill Award as well as numerous 5 star ratings from reviewers.

Cassie Smith was a troubled teen who trusted no one and had a bleak future ahead of her. If not for the intervention of a caring teacher, Cassie would have fallen through the cracks. Now she’s a teacher herself, dedicated to guiding her At-Risk students through the troubled waters of life. As part of the school board’s Resiliency Program, Captain Mitch Lansing is assigned to spend ten weeks in her classroom. Cassie doesn’t want a cop in her own private world-especially a cop like Mitch with all his rules and regulations. And the last place he wants to be is with a bunch of teenagers. But these students might not make it in the real world without some kind of intervention from the police. Once he accepts his role, he’s shocked to find it’s not just the kids getting under his skin-it’s their teacher.

“Kathryn Shay writes from the heart! Her stories are about real people with real lives. You will laugh and cry with her characters. Cop of the Year is sure to be one of the best books to hit the shelves this year!”  The Literary Times

“Prepare yourself for a fabulous emotional ride that will have you reaching for the tissues and leave you with a renewed sense of hope.” Genie Romex Reviews

“Kathryn Shay has penned a most unusual novel. The teacher/cop relationship feels natural enough, and the dialogue is a standout. But oddly enough, though I found the romance to be satisfying, it’s the secondary characters of the kids I remember most from the story. The teenage pregnancies, the gang involvement, the drug usage all are a part of today’s high school scene, but Shay makes this a story of hope, not despair. The ending almost brought me to tears. Three cheers!” The Romance Reader

“Ms. Shay writes a strong and compelling dissertation on a very real and complicated social issue of our time, weaving in an unforgettable, touching love story.” Old Book Barn Gazette

Because It’s Christmas is a super modern day retelling of the classic It’s a Wonderful Life.” Painted Rock Reviews

To most people in the small town of Bayview Heights, high school principal Seth Taylor is a hero. But Seth has never forgotten the mistakes he made years ago with his students. And neither has reporter Lacey Cartwright, because one involved her brother, who’s now in jail. With her grandfather pressuring her to destroy Seth in the town newspaper, Seth invites Lacey to come to the school and see what the teachers really do with kids. Attraction then love flares between these two star-crossed people. If Lacey starts to show her support—and her true feelings—for Seth, she will she loose what’s left of her family?

“The rich characterization and emotional intensity of Because It’s Christmas by Kathryn Shay will make you pull out a hanky for more than one intensely moving scene.” RT Book Reviews

“You have to read this powerful, heart-wrenching story. Ms. Shay…is a truly gifted storyteller.” Old Book Barn Gazette

“Like Cop of the Year, this is more than just another romance. It had me in tears. I had to keep reminding myself, this is fiction. Kathryn Shay is one heck of a writer!” An Amazon Customer

“With a cast of memorable characters interacting on a myriad of levels from friendship to love, Ms. Shay has penned a fascinating and emotionally gripping story.” RT Book Reviews 4 ½ Top Pick

On her fortieth birthday, Zoe Caufield is expecting a marriage proposal but instead gets the news that Kurt Lansing, the love of her life, is going back to his ex-wife. Months later, Kurt is back in Bayview Heights. The reconciliation didn’t work, and he broke Zoe’s heart for nothing. But when he starts a clinic in town and Zoe’s students will be working there for their community service requirement, she’s once again drawn to him. But lack of trust, protesting friends, and especially the students who love her, make their relationship impossible. Can anything bring these two people together? Emotional and heart-wrenching, the Bayview Heights trilogy ends with a winner.

“Shay’s heart-touching, sympathetic approach, powerful story-telling ability and depth of characterization of not only the main characters, but also the secondary characters, speak of first-hand knowledge of teens, challenges, and matters of the heart. Consequently, Count On Me comes very highly recommended.” Word Weaving

“Ms. Shay doesn’t disappoint with this one. I can’t say enough about this author—pure perfection!” Old Book Barn Gazette

“Count On Me is a powerful story not only about the restoration of love but also about the relationships between teachers and students. This story will open your eyes and your heart and I highly recommend it to you.” An Amazon Reader

From the reviewers:

This book was fun wild ride, that has you chuckling out loud, Not one part of this storyline did I find boring though towards the end I did scratch my head on one thing. Wondering how was that possible, I truly hope there is another book to follow this one. I would definitely love to read more. I am also going to be checking out Pepper’s other works. – Booklover’s Hideaway –Booklover’s Hideaway

I loved the characters. They’re fun, strong, brave, intelligent, and clever. Other than a few gifts that come from their special genetics, the characters don’t have superpowers, but they have their wits, and they use them. My kind of characters. This is a great book. You should read it.  –  Taylor

It has a great mix of paranormal beings with a twist. The storyline is very fast paced and gets you hooked into Chase’s drama that is unfolding in front of her. Chase’s character is also unique and different. The love story that evolves between Chase and Roman is unique and has some heat to it(*wink *wink). –  Melissa Rhinelander
