Be careful, be very careful. Once you start reading this gripping thriller, you’ll forget about all that holiday shopping you’re supposed to be doing. Even scarier, you might get addicted: it’s only the first volume in the Ryan Black Series.

“Great read. A mix of Cussler, Clancy and Flynn, but with a style and feel all it’s own and a great book that has an all too plausible scenario. The characters are appealing and [the] scenario could easily play out in today’s world. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.” –Bugsy, Reviewer

Here’s the set-up for Crescent Rising:
Ryan Black is living a life most men will never know- filled with high-risk adventure in exotic locales, an authentic hero who willingly confronts head-on the life and death challenges often found in emerging trouble spots around the globe. He is a man most women find intriguing- yet it is Cassandra, a rare woman possessing a unique combination of inner strength and beauty who dares to enter his life.

This high impact thriller takes you on a desperate mission to prevent a radiological attack on the United States by Jusef al Sudairy. From mysterious crashes of Soviet-era fighters in California to high-tech naval battles in the Atlantic, the action is nonstop in this first volume in the Ryan Black Series.

The reviewers are giving it 5 stars…

“This was one of the best first novels I’ve ever read. It has an extremely exciting plot, non-stop action, interesting characters, and great detail…” –Common Sense Colorado, Reviewer

Crescent Rising is one of those action-packed novels that leave the reader breathless and wondering what will happen next. The action, plot and premise are very relevant to the state of world politics as they stand in the USA today…  His knowledge of weaponry, delivery systems, military operations is astonishing… The story flows from point A to point B with very little, if any, distraction, clearly defining the characters, their missions and their personalities along the way with some very interesting and entertaining glimpses into the lifestyles of the rich and infamous. I am left hoping that we may have such men as Ryan Black and his cronies out there somewhere looking out for us all. Excellent job, Mr. Hamric!” –Brendan Carroll, Reviewer

“If you like Vince Flynn, Brad Thor type of thrillers, you’re going to love this book! Once you start reading though, you won’t be able to put it down. Ryan Black and associates are a combination of Mitch Rapp, Scot Harvarth, Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino (of earlier Clive Cussler novels). This is a great read, the premise of which is all too real.  …[A]ll in all, it’s an exciting, can’t stop reading thrill.” –Luke, Reviewer

And oh, one last thing, for the few readers who haven’t already clicked to download this thrillride, and of course for everyone who has as well! The author is giving away a free Kindle this month as a way of saying thank you and spreading holiday cheer among readers of Crescent Rising and its sequel Blank Slate.  About the Author

Zack Hamric grew up as the oldest in a family of four children in Memphis, Tn. He graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in Political Science in 1980. The next couple of years he spent several months skiing many of the resorts in the West and through good fortune managed to survive a few winter mountaineering and climbing adventures along the way.

Life has a funny way of changing dreams, and for the next twenty years, most of his adventures were confined to raising a family with three children and traveling the country as a corporate citizen. Most Monday mornings would find him waiting in an airport buying the latest Tom Clancy or Lee Child novel. After reading thousands of geopolitical thrillers through the years, Zack turned his dream of writing a novel into a reality that was five years in the making and wrote the first in a series of Ryan Black novels, “Crescent Rising.” His second novel, “Blank Slate” was released on Amazon Oct. 21.

These days, Zack can be found living in Sarasota, Fl. and on beautiful afternoons might be found sailing in the Gulf aboard his sloop Dolce Vita while creating new plotlines for his upcoming novel.

Find out why Amazon reviewers have given William T. Prince’s The Legend of the Sasquatch 15 straight 5-star reviews: Read a free sample of our Kindle Nation eBook of the Day right in your browser!

Here’s the set-up for William T. Prince’s The Legend of the Sasquatch:

Man or beast?  The same question asked about the mythical Sasquatch might be asked regarding its namesake, young Texan Clint Buchanan (“Buck Hannon”), who prowls the streets of the DFW Metroplex in the late 1970s.

Clint seems to have it all—size, strength, intellect, personality, good looks, and any woman he wants. Unfortunately a combination of bad choices and bad luck leads to tragic results.

Join this behemoth as he faces the life-changing and character-defining events of his late adolescence with a colorful supporting cast that includes devoted buddies Milton, Tom, and Hulk.

With 15 straight 5-star reviews, this gritty, action-packed character study may be the highest-rated indie novel in the Kindle Store at the popular $2.99 price point. Here’s what a couple of those Kindle reviewers have had to say:
  • From “Vine Voice” reviewer Apex Reviews:  “A riveting, action-packed read. In his standout debut effort, author William Prince takes the reader on a surprisingly engrossing journey through the depths of the human psyche.”  (Vine Voice is made up of  a select group of reviewers chosen by invitation on by Amazon.)
  • “This is one of those edge-of-your-seat, can’t-put-it-down kind of stories. As billed, it’s a great character study, but it’s also chockablock with exciting and realistic action and even a good romance to boot.”
  • “I really enjoyed the book, especially getting to know Clint. His relationship with his parents, his co-workers, friends and his girlfriend all meld together to make a really interesting character. Reliving visits to some old haunts in my hometown and the surrounding area was fun, too, but it all comes down to the story. The Legend of Sasquatch is a great study of the human psyche and all its complexities – morality, justice, passion, friendship, violence and love.”

What the Reviews Say:

From Dana Taylor, author of Shiny Green Shoes
“I found this anthology through the Kindleboards threads and enjoyed the variety of holiday tales. The first two stories use bad weather to throw the H & H together, one in an airport (“Once Upon a Flight Delay”) and one in Boston (“Snowbound”). The couples in both stories are engaging as they discover each other. “Bringer of Gifts” is a wry tale of modern a Kris Kringle that made me smile. “Where We Love” follows one couple’s year of holidays to illustrate the passages of life. Finally, the novella “In Hiding” is a solid piece of romantic suspense. Beautiful girl in danger; handsome, protective law man. Yeah, we love those. “Flurries” is a good escape from the holiday hustle. Enjoy.”
From Melindeeloo, Top 500 Reviewer
“Once Upon a Flight Delay” by Mary Compton ~ Fate brings two stranded travelers together while snowbound in an airport at Thanksgiving, when flights resume will geography keep them apart? I really enjoyed this one and was charmed by the pair’s quick and quirky connection, I was really hoping they’d find a way back to each other somehow.

“Snowbound” by Claire Taylor Allen ~ When a snow storm shuts down all the roads out of town keeping a student from making it home for Christmas, she reconnects with an old friend living in the city ~ I always enjoy friends who discover that they can be more, and liked how the heroine’s forced Christmas away from home ended up being a meaningful and memorable one.

“Bringer of Gifts” by Ryl Regehr ~ A woman accompanies a mysterious gift giver who has just what you need if you are ‘ready’ to receive it ~ Sprinkled with a bit of Christmas magic, I was hoping that Nick would get to keep his present.

“Where We Love” by Ronda Russell ~ A couple living overseas try to keep connected to the family they left behind ~ This was the least focused of the stories, though the couple’s love for each other and for their families shone through.

“In Hiding” by Lelani Dixon ~ A witness in hiding is attracted to her handsome protector ~ Even though there was a pretty big shock at the start, I enjoyed this story all the way up to right before the ending when the hero glitches – some serious groveling was needed – this was the spiciest of the romances in the collection and would have been right at home in many a mainsteam romance anthology.

Read a free sample of our Kindle Nation eBook of the Day, Laura Lond’s THE BATTLE, without leaving your browser!

See why Amazon’s #1 reviewer Harriet Klauser calls The Battle (The Adventures of Jecosan Tarres) “a terrific ending to a wonderful coming of age fantasy trilogy.”

Here’s the set-up:

Having done his best to fulfill the commission given him by a supernatural messenger, yet apparently having failed to do so, Jeco and his friends, Dalian and Lord Farizel, find themselves running for their lives from the wrath of King Alvard III.

When the king pays dearly for his mistake, the nine-year-old Princess Arvelina is elevated to a position she could not have anticipated. While the Meorian army marches toward Tirgan to destroy the Book of Light as originally planned by Alvard, it seems all hope is lost to stop a war between the two nations as the Tirganians have begun moving their troops in response.

Disobedience, although done out of best intentions, throws the conflict into an event of extortion of life and death, leaving the Tirganian king, Ez-Keramon, to decide the fate of a dearly beloved young man.

Without intervention by the Lord of the heavens the two nations face the judgment of a blood bath. Individual character qualities and actions bring to each their own penalties and rewards, as well as the effect they have on others.

Harriet Klauser, ranked No. 1 among Classic Reviewers, has published over 23,000 reviews on Amazon. She gives 5 Stars to The Battle and says:  “A terrific ending to a wonderful coming of age fantasy trilogy.”

What Editorial reviewers have said about Laura Lond’s writing, on the occasion of publication of The Journey:

“Superbly written novel which is suitable for readers as young as ten, yet deliberately written to appeal to all ages.” — Midwest Book Review, July 2003

“The premise of the story is intriguing, and the writing shows the author’s high level of skill.” — Writer’s Digest

Confessions: Kindle Text-to-Speech and Me

By Steve Windwalker

How do I love thee, Kindle Text-to-Speech? Let me count the ways.
I have named thee, with a little help from an eyebrow-raising Significant Other who may a time or two have looked askance as I rolled over and donned my headphones of an evening. I have named my Kindle’s voice Ursula. This imagined creature may or may not be disembodied, but she never seems to tire of reading to me, talking to me, entertaining me. When it’s just me, my headphones, and Ursula, of course, it’s all about me.
I will admit it: I love listening to newspaper, magazine, and blog articles, including my daily Instapaper dispatch, in the robot-speak of Ursula’s Kindle Text-to-Speech. Originally I was resistant to listening to books with Kindle Text-to-Speech, but Ursula aims to please. Her voices and pronunciations have been upgraded over time by Kindle’s Text-to-Speech partner, Nuance Communications, and I have grown accustomed to listening with comfort, enjoyment, and enrichment as she reads me free and paid books purchased in the Kindle Store, downloaded from the websites mentioned in this book, or sent to me by authors and publishers interested in having their work considered for Kindle Nation Daily sponsorship programs.
With the exception of those Kindle Store books whose publishers have specifically opted out of Kindle Text-to-Speech — and shame on them! — Kindle Text-to-Speech will read aloud to you from any book, newspaper, magazine, blog, manuscript, dramatic script, memorandum or other file that you can get onto your Kindle Home screen.
I’ve even sent recipes to my Kindle so that Ursula could read aloud to me while I was preparing Potage Parmentier in the kitchen.
And please don’t tell the Massachusetts state troopers, but I have even sent driving directions to my Kindle so that it could read them aloud to me in my car. I’ve gotten handy at using the space bar to pause the read-aloud process, but I run into problems if a segment of my trip is longer than 15 minutes, because Ursula does have a tendency to doze off beside me if she goes that long without speaking. Alas, now that we’ve heard the horror stories of Kindle owners being arrested for having an open Kindle in the car while driving, I must ask you to destroy this page of the Kindle edition of your book immediately after you read it. A Kindle, apparently, is every bit as dangerous to highway safety as an open bottle of beer.
