“Pages of Promises is a perfect title for this page-turning collection of short stories, for Stephen James Price is a very promising writer indeed.”
–Bentley Little, author of The Burning and His Father’s Son.

Pages of Promises is a collection of 14 dark, speculative fiction stories straight out of the twisted imagination of Stephen James Price. From a paean to Stephen King to the child of a serial killer, Price explores dark corners of the human heart with wit and skill. At the end of the volume, Price allows the reader to glimpse the insights and incidents that gave birth to each story.

One Reviewer Notes:

Pages of Promises is a collection of short stories that cover a wide range of subjects. The title story is about the pull and attraction of a unique book–one that requires blood. There is a story about a grandmother who has issues controlling her rage. Ever wonder about some of the seedy restaurants you see along lonely stretches of highways when you’re travelling? Price has that covered too. Stephen King’s influence, a pet cat you wouldn’t want to hold, psychotic killers, angels, and even Santa and his reindeer–it’s all in here. There is little that Price doesn’t touch on in this collection.“

–Neal Hock

The price Zeke Jackson will have to pay to get back his missing sister are beyond anything he ever expected in our Kindle eBook of the Day, Rejean Giguere’s THE DREAMWEAVER – Just $2.99 on Kindle, and here’s a free sample

Here’s the set-up for Rejean Giguere’s Dreamweaver, just $2.99 on Kindle:

For fans of Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Clive Cussler . . .

Zeke Jackson’s sister has gone missing in the jungles of Southeast Asia. His search for her takes him from the red light districts of Vietnam to the mean streets of New York.

Finally he finds the help he needs in the back alleys of one of South Africa’s most notorious shanty towns. The DreamWeaver.

But the things Zeke will have to do, and the price he’ll have to pay to get Jane back are beyond anything he ever expected.

From a reviewer:

This book is a provocative, stimulating, mind blowing story of what one would do to save someone they love.  The character tries all avenues of seeking a resolution to locating his missing sister, who was kidnapped in a foreign land.  After all of his attempts to find her are exhausted he is about to surrender hope and abandon the search. Then he receives a cryptic email that sends him on a surreal journey into the mysterious voodoo culture and mystics.

This book is short but packed with details and at times should be almost rated x rated for mature audiences.  It has graphic details, steamy lustful scenes and primitive trappings.  He is stripped of all human essence to evolve to the primitive state of animal instinct.  He has to prepare himself to journey into the deeper strange jungles at his last desperate attempt to join heart and soul with his sister. He sacrifices anything, “anything” to bond with his loved one again. This book is a powerful heart wrenching tale about human love and the boundaries which need to be broken to surrender to defeat or hope.   It is worth the time to explore this author’s writings.– Susan Honey, DIVINECAROLINE

Rejean Giguere is an avid outdoorsman, adventurer, photographer and artist. He enjoys fishing, hockey, golf, tennis, skiing and snowmobiling, his V-Max motorcycle and vintage Corvette.

He grew up in Canada and Europe, and enjoyed a business career in Toronto and Ottawa.

“Charles Sheehan-Miles is one of America’s criminally neglected authors; get to know his stuff. You won’t regret it.

–Robert P. Beveridge, Top Reviewer Vine Voice

Here’s the set-up:

A domestic terrorist attack evokes a violent and oppressive response from the U.S. government… a labor dispute ends in violence… a young boy lies dying of a rare disease with no hope in sight. When the conflict focuses on a small town in West Virginia, Ken Murphy, Iraq veteran and Lieutenant Colonel in the West Virginia National Guard, must find a way to protect his family and community in a world turned upside down. In a future America terrifying to behold, Republic evokes the specter of civil war in a world that is simultaneously familiar and changed beyond recognition.

One Reviewer Notes:

“A plant closing in a small town in West Virginia desolates its population with lay-offs, causing orderly protesting that sets off a shocking and all too (could-be) realistic chain of events for one Ken Murphy and his family, the state of West Virginia and the Federal Government.

“Sheehan-Miles’ writing and character development is stunning, riveting and thoroughly suspenseful and a work of fiction that feels all too factual. This is a book of the very best kind: one that is both entertaining whilst making its reader question the very situations surrounding us daily. Un-put-downable.

–W. Zollo, VineVoice

Think “Huck Finn meets Kerouac meets Catch-22 against the backdrop of a 60s haze” – George O’Har’s humorous 5-star road novel The Thousand Hour Club is our Kindle eBook of the Day … and here’s a free sample!

Here’s the set-up for George O’Har’s 5-star road novel  The Thousand Hour Club:

Tom Betz drops out of college with war raging in Viet Nam and drifts about Jersey in a 60s haze until he receives his draft notice … and enlists.

Eventually, after spending some months in Texas, Tom finds himself at the Army Language School, in Monterey, California, where he is taught Arabic at the hands of an Iraqi ex-patriot. Tom is then sent to Winter Survival School.

What happens to him after he finishes Survival School turns Tom into a latter day Huck Finn whose observations on life in and out of uniform fuel this highly rated and humorous debut.

From the reviewers:

The main character, Tom starts out typical of what history perceives this generation to have been. Until fate takes a hand. As a reader you get to share his journey towards his destination. Tom goes from a child with no true goal to a young man with a better idea of what life can give you so long as you listen. This book is a good read so I recommend that you do read it. When done perhaps you will learn as Tom did to listen. –Maryann Allen

Taking the Novel to Great Heights.  ….more than meets the eye. Protagonist and voice of the novel, Tommy Betz seems like an average guy, a young ne’er-do-well headed nowhere fast, but thanks to O’Har’s energetic prose style and the novel’s restrained ironic tone, the reader soon takes to him, and falls under the spell of what turns out to be a compelling and enchanting story of spiritual seeking, enlightenment, and redemption. Vivian Darkbloom

The narrative is skillfully crafted by O’Har, held together with a sharp sense of humor and dotted with true moments of transcendence. And, every so often, there’s a description that makes the reader pull back for a minute and just appreciate the image. Unpretentious and well-written, TTHC is a breath of fresh air for your Kindle. Highly recommended. –Foley In Korea

As a former Air Force linguist I was drawn also to the similarities and contrasts with my own experiences. What George has written was very accurate with regard to Tommy’s military adventures. And, also having been stationed in Greece, he made the country come back to life for me. Great job.–Bronze Sculptor

The author lives in the Boston area and teaches at Boston College. He is an Air Force veteran and former electrical engineer, with a Ph.d. from M.I.T.

“This is a great read. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t wait to find out what would happen in this character’s work environment (gripes about the office will be very relatable to some people), friendships and love life.”

–Amy

Here’s the set-up:

Meredith Love thought her life was just fine. Fresh out of graduate school, she had a shiny new job in the medical office where she used to be a secretary. Sure, she didn’t really like all her co-workers, and yes, her bosses still asked her to drop everything to send a fax. And, okay, she had an irritatingly successful best friend who was always telling Meredith that her life sucked. But Meredith was content with her quiet life in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Then Ben Abel, second-year medical resident, appears on the scene, and Meredith realizes how miserable her life is and what happiness could be. Suddenly, her life looks as bad as her best friend always said and it’s getting worse by the minute. Now Meredith is going to have to stand up and fight for the life she wants instead of the life she’s got. And even if she succeeds, a secret from her past could ruin everything.

One Reviewer Notes:

“I had a hard time putting it down once I started reading. I was expecting a lot of drama that would not be all that believable. I found I could relate a lot to the main character Meredith Love and her life. Who hasn’t had the annoying coworker that expects you to drop everything for them? Or that boss that hits on you? Meredith has quirky coworkers and some great friends that give her many learning experiences throughout. A must read!“

–Donald Sabino

Here’s the set-up:

Round Robin Phinney… She’s 230 pounds of bad attitude. She dishes out sandwiches and insults to the customers at Screaming Mimi’s deli. She takes a dim view of people in general and men in particular. Her home is her sanctuary. She has an apartment upstairs. Downstairs, she’s created a private park, lushly landscaped, dotted with ponds, furnished with two Chicago Park District benches.

Manfred Welk is what Charles Atlas would have looked like if he’d been serious about lifting weights. A former Olympic powerlifter for East Germany, his ex-wife turned him in for spying. Brought to Chicago after the fall of the Berlin Wall, he needs a place to live. When cold weather hits and Robin’s furnace goes out, the plants in her park start to die. Worse, she has no money for repairs — but she does have a small vacant apartment in her basement. Something she might swap for the services of a live-in handyman. After interviewing a number of prospective fix-it people, Robin finds, to her great horror, the best choice is a giant German with CIA connections and a kid Bianca who has been raised in a brothel. Robin, Manfred and Bianca all have their demons to cast out. You’ll have a grand time watching as they do.

“Great book! It is so unlike previous books Flynn has written that it was quite a surprise – but in a good way. The personality of each character is multi-faceted, and the way the author developed each aspect is the true pleasure this book offers. Interesting how Flynn was able to capture the emotional turmoil that Robin’s situation presented, and how he let us see her true self by the time it was all done – wonderful story and highly recommended.

Such adversity would later serve him well as he embarked on a career in writing. His education was both parochial and secular, including, St. Mary of the Lake School, Francis W. Parker School, Loyola University and Northeastern Illinois University. Mr. Flynn’s novels have been published by Signet Books, Bantam Books, Variance Publishing and his own imprint Stray Dog Press, Inc.
