Here’s the set-up:

Orphaned by his parents and his artificial mother, and abandoned by his older brother at a young age, Jay spends most of his adulthood serving as a government therapist to those like him.  He considers his own happiness proof of success in his career and life.  Little does he know that his picture perfect world, occupied by his wife, Sasha, and their two children, is not as idyllic as it seems.

When Jay’s older brother, Ian, returns Jay finds himself torn between the happy bubble he resides in and helping his troubled brother keep his own children out of the hands of the very institution Jay serves.  Can Jay save Ian while holding onto the loving memories of his artificial mother and all that he believes in?  More importantly, does he even want to?

You Shouldn’t Call Me Mommy is a story about the difficult journey of self-discovery, one that explores the power of truth over illusion and the meaning of a mother’s love.

Saint Nick

by Fred Tribuzzo

Here’s the set-up:

Paul’s trendy spiritual ambitions have guttered, leaving him a burned-out, middle-aged bankruptcy lawyer. Now it’s almost Christmas, and the spirit world has decided to take Paul firmly in hand. Three iconic Native Americans of the nineteenth century, Black Elk, Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, challenge Paul to a dream quest: no guarantee of safe return. It’s going to be a rough ride.

Fred Tribuzzo is a professional pilot who has flown aircraft from the J-3 Cub to the fastest corporate jet ever made-the Citation Ten. Currently flying a Boeing 737 Business Jet, his trips can range from thirty minutes to ten hours. It was on the far side of the world that he wrote Saint Nick.

In a blending of Native American spirituality with traditional Christian faith, Fred Tribuzzo’s slim volume relates the story of Paul, a middle-aged cynic about to see the bill on his self-centered life come due. A few days before Christmas finds Paul sitting home alone, playing video games before bed. Awaiting him is Christmas dinner with his mother and a reunion with his estranged son, home on leave from Iraq.

Picking up a dog-eared copy of “Black Elk Speaks” from his bedside table sets off a chain of events that awakens memories of his childhood and propels Paul into an alternative world where his heroes — Black Elk, Sitting Bull, and Crazy Horse — become flesh and blood characters. Each, in turn, challenges Paul’s cynical views, forcing him to see his life for what it is. But will Paul see the light, admit his faults, and find the courage to reverse a lifetime of cynicism and selfishness?

Trubuzzo’s writing style crisply moves the story forward, creates an eerie atmosphere in his dreamworld scenes, and provides a nostalgic view of Midwestern snowfall, last-minute holiday shopping and Christmas dinner with family.

A good read in any season, this seventy-three-page novella, with its Christmas message of redemption, promises to provide solace amid the harried holidays as well as an inspirational stocking stuffer for the book lovers on anyone’s gift list.

I will not mirror other reviews in this space by repeating a narrative analysis, suffice to say that “Saint Nick” is a simple tale, simply and effectively told. Author Fred Tribuzzo wraps it up neatly without fanfare or excessive rhetoric. This tale does not need either. A terrific short read with a lot to say. Perfect for the holiday season, or, indeed, any time one desires a rich and satisfying literary experience. Good things do indeed come in small packages. I am awaiting Mr. Tribuzzo’s next literary effort with great anticipation.

Love is Darkness
Love is Fear
Love is Mortal

Love is Darkness– Valerie Dearborn wants a cotton candy life, but it’s more like a puffer fish: pointy, unusual, and—if not prepared exactly right—deadly.

In London for graduate school, Val knows she’s finally free. Her father and ex-almost-boyfriend are back in California and she’s out of the Vampire hunting biz for good. Or is she?

She draws the attention of Lucas, a 1600 year old Vampire, and King to his kind. He’s also wicked hot. As golden as Lucifer, and just as tempting, he makes Valerie an offer she can’t refuse— help him find out if the Others (Empaths, Fey and Werewolves) still exist or he’ll stop protecting those she loves.

Lucas tells her that Empaths were a Vampire’s biggest weakness before going extinct hundreds of years ago. While the Fey or a Werewolf might kill a Vampire, an Empath could enslave them, seducing or harming with emotions at will. The one detail he leaves out? Valerie is an Empath.

And after 1600 years of an emotionless existence, Lucas wants Valerie like a recovering alcoholic wants a wine cooler.

Can she keep those she loves alive, stop Lucas from munching on her, survive a fanged revolution and still find a way to have that boring, normal life she’s always wanted? Probably not, but boy is she gonna try!

Love is Fear- After a lot of swearing and only a little nookie, Valerie Dearborn has decided to make a change. No more lusting after Lucas, the hot, but emotionless, vampire king who can’t commit. Instead she’s going to make it work with Jack. After all, not only is he breathing, but he’s the love of her life….Isn’t he?

Valerie is an Empath, with supernatural abilities that seem to do nothing more than give her the hots for Lucas. Once upon a time, Empath’s had a purpose. They were ambassadors to the Others—Fey, Witches, Werewolves and Vampires. They could settle the emotions of a Werewolf and make Vampires feel again.

But that was long ago.

Lucas isn’t about to let Valerie go. He needs her to help him find the Fey, last seen in the Colony of Roanoke, North Carolina, circa 1587. He still believes they are the key to restoring balance to the world and the only way to keep vampires under control. They won’t trust him, but they will trust Val.
Between Jack, Lucas and Rachel, Val knows life won’t be dull. Nor will it be the normal, 2.5 kids kind of life she’s always wanted.

As their enemies close in, Val must ask herself what life is really about–trust, duty or mind-blowing orgasms? And even if she finds the answer, she may not live long enough to enjoy it.

Love is Mortal- A determination to survive….

Betrayed by everyone she loves, Valerie Dearborn will do anything to get out of Fey and avoid becoming Cerdwellyn’s queen. Even if it means she has to rely upon Lucas, the monster who betrayed her.

A bid for redemption….

Lucas felt nothing for hundreds of years, but Valerie’s blood has changed everything. Forced to confront his sins, he’ll do what he can to help Valerie survive. Even if it costs him his life.

A destiny cut short….

Cerdwellyn, King of the Fey lost his true queen centuries ago. He’s determined to make Valerie her replacement, but ghosts from his past have other plans.
The end of the story.

As Valerie struggles to survive she must choose between reality and illusion, between sacrifice and love, all in hopes of figuring out the truth: that if you love someone you must be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

“Action packed, fun-filled story with a sassy heroine, a hot-as-hell love interest and a bad-ass vamp whom you can’t help but fall for.” – Goth

Here’s the set-up:

“An un-harnessed expedition across the world and through the mind of a man in search of life’s meaning.”

“An intellectual yet sultry, over-the-top, tragically triumphant love story that reads like an ancient myth.”

“A page-turner of the highest caliber, with the depth and texture of novels of old, one that seeks to answer the riddle of life.”

A year after losing the only girl he ever loved to her overnight fame, a dream-driven, struggling New York City novelist cannot write or move on with his life. But when he learns the girl he loved is living in Sydney, Australia, he abandons everything and moves there to find her, convinced he can win her back if they see each other again.

Though his search initially leads to dead-ends, depleting what little money he has and leaving him on the brink, the journey invigorates his writing, spawning chapters like he has never composed, ones that allow him to discover the reality of who he is and the universe he is experiencing. However, the story he tells about his life begins to consume him, limiting who he can become and his potential for new happiness in Australia. And thus a war begins as his mind tries to convince his heart to give up looking for the girl he used to know, a pursuit that has only brought him disappointment and pain. But love is the greatest dare, a lure into the abyss, a dream he cannot resist following until the very end.

What emerges is a bold, ominous, cerebral, emotional, and ultimately triumphant story about who we are and why we are, one that blows apart the pervasive illusions that lead us to despair. This highly accessible, innovative and thought-provoking novel lays bare the deadly yet transformative power of the one thing we all want—love.
