Limited time promotion: $0.99Sometimes the worst storms aren’t from Mother Nature, and sometimes the worst nightmares aren’t the ones in our heads. Mike Mitchell, an average New Yorker already struggling to keep his family together, suddenly finds himself fighting just to keep them alive when an increasingly bizarre string of disasters start appearing on the world’s news networks. From the Author

I’d like to thank my editor, Gabe Robinson (previously at Harper Collins in NYC but now freelancing) for his incredible help in getting CyberStorm assembled and edited. I’d also like to thank my small army of dozens of beta readers who combed through the early manuscripts–this is as much my novel as all of theirs, and a testament to the power of the internet in shaping new media. I have a full list of everyone who helped me contained in the novel itself.

Finally, I’d like to thank all of the members of the cybersecurity community who lent me their time and insight into making this as realistic a scenario as possible of what a full-scale cyber event could like. I have named several key individuals at the start of the book.
Thank you everyone, and hope you enjoy the read!

Readers call it “riveting, thought provoking, a masterpiece of psychological warfare” … and liken it to the best of John Le Carré

 AN UNQUIET AMERICAN

Here’s the set-up:

In this provocative political thriller an ex-British SAS officer goes up against powerful conspirators who are about to regret they ever met him! Readers call it riveting, thought provoking, can’t put the book down reading; a masterpiece of psychological warfare; superior storytelling and liken it to the best of John Le Carré.

Rufus Reed, ex-British Special Forces is kidnapped, falsely accused of terrorism and taken to a secret CIA “Black Site” for questioning. He’s not only up against his captors, but dangerous elements at the top levels of government who intend to use him as part of a plan to ensure “their man” wins the Presidency of the United States. Seeking power at all costs, they set in motion a global conspiracy of unthinkable proportions.

Yet nothing is quite what it seems, and Rufus is no ordinary prisoner.

As he slowly plants seeds of doubt in the minds of his captors, related events explode on the world stage racing with unnerving twists and turns from Hong Kong, Jordan, Italy, Latvia and the USA to the highest levels of the CIA, the Knesset and the Vatican.  What’s at stake is not just Reed’s survival, but that of democracy and freedom as we know it!
And just as you think you know what’s going to happen, three powerful figures – a high-profile Iranian Muslim woman, a former Israeli Intelligence Officer, and a Catholic mining billionaire – reveal their true intentions and propel the story to a riveting and unexpected conclusion!
This web of intrigue draws on bestselling author AFN Clarke’s own experiences in the military and as the son of a British MI6 operative living in different countries, cultures and political systems around the world. It is set against the background of a U.S. Presidential election and creates dramatic tension through its politically explosive premise and controversial analysis of decisions in history that continue to impact the world today. An exciting, emotionally stirring and thought-provoking book, it reveals both the power of greed and corruption and the power of the human spirit to rise above it.

AFN Clarke is the best selling author of CONTACT (non-fiction), and various works of fiction: An Unquiet American, Dry Tortugas, The Book of Baker Series (Dreams from the Death Age; Armageddon; Genesis Revisited), Collisions and The Orange Moon Affair, the first of the Thomas Gunn thriller series. Book length 365 pages.

From the Author

As a child I never questioned why it was that I was born in Hong Kong and why my family lived in exotic places like India, Libya and Iran. It was just how it was and I loved the excitement of traveling to far away places, hearing different languages, eating local foods and exploring each new place we lived. Only later did I realize that I was actually the son of a British MI6 operative – a low level intelligence gatherer  – and only then did many aspects and events of our life become clear to me.

Then, as a young man, I joined the elite British Parachute Regiment. It was a way to provide a secure future for my family and in some far recess of my yet uninformed mind I thought it would be a continuation of my life of adventure. It was, but not in ways that I expected. Suffice it to say that after 8 years of service in different parts of the world, I left the army after two bloody tours in Northern Ireland with half my guts missing and have required numerous life saving operations since. Living with the reminder of hatred and war each day is a sobering and life changing experience.

AN UNQUIET AMERICAN is a semi-autobiographical novel, in that it draws on many of my life experiences and those of people close to me. Much of Rufus Reed’s life experiences are like mine, though I must say he is a much more intriguing, intelligent, measured and likeable character than I could ever claim to be!   I can’t deny that AN UNQUIET AMERICAN reflects my own strong beliefs, interpretation of history and conclusions about why our world is the way it is. I can’t deny that I have a deep dislike and distrust of politicians who curtail our freedoms and try to rewrite history or determine its course to suit their own ends. I personally believe that power, greed and religious fervor cause most of the pain, anguish and conflict in the world and those negative experiences can be avoided, if we simply remember that we are one species and that what hurts one of us hurts us all.

I am also very much of an optimist at heart. I believe in the strength of the human spirit, in the power of love and still believe and hope that “good” will prevail over “evil”. That optimism pervades the action and, I hope, the feeling that the reader is left with after all the twists and turns of the story. I just hope you enjoy reading it, as much as I enjoyed writing it!

AFN CLARKE

Biography

I’ve been fortunate as a writer to have written the best seller CONTACT and the screenplay for the award winning BBCTV film of the same name. The success of CONTACT was a turning point in my life and I now count myself lucky to be pursuing my passion and writing full time – with 6 works of fiction on sale on Amazon and more on the way. I enjoy writing in various genres – from suspense, intrigue and politically charged thrillers with controversial and provocative themes to literary fiction, humorous satire and books that explore the complexity of human relationships.

Apart from my many lives as a racing car driver, Captain in Britain’s elite Parachute Regiment, screenwriter, pilot, yacht skipper, and proud father of four daughters I’ve lived in Hong Kong, India, Libya, Iran, the UK, USA and travelled extensively. Favorite things to do? Write, sail, listen to opera, rock music, cook gourmet meals, drink wine, have heated discussions and travel off the beaten path.

Having had a near death experience, lost half my insides and made it back from the trauma of war, all I can say is that tends to change how a person looks at life and maybe in a strange way it’s made me a better writer. For me – and I suspect for most of my readers – good books are a great way to shut out every day life, suspend normal ways of thinking, and allow yourself to be transported to another world. I love a good story, enjoy laughing out loud, being challenged by thought provoking ideas, sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what’s to come and the thrill of unexpected endings. And so I hope that’s what my readers get – the thrill, suspense, drama, intrigue, humor, mystery, danger, poignancy, love and laughter of life seen through different eyes.

Published works include CONTACT, COLLISIONS, AN UNQUIET AMERICAN, THE BOOK OF BAKER SERIES (Dream from the Death Age; Armageddon; Genesis Revisited- release 2013), DRY TORTUGAS and THE ORANGE MOON AFFAIR the first of the Thomas Gunn thriller series. For more information I invite you to visit www.afnclarke.com or email author@afnclarke.com. Comment on my blog, connect on Facebook and Twitter and I thank you sincerely for taking the time to write a review of any books you have read.

Playwright Neil Simon said today’s Kindle Nation eBook of the Day cost him money because it kept him from his own work!

Do you dare start FACE DOWN IN THE PARK?

Face Down In The Park

Here’s the set-up:

“Face Down In The Park cost me money. I got so engrossed that I couldn’t finish my own work. It’s the kind of thriller that keeps you in your chair and lets your phone go on ringing unanswered.” – Neil Simon

Broadway director Leonard Foglia and former New York Times and Washington Post cultural correspondent David Richards are true show business insiders. Now their partnership takes a daring twist on a roller-coaster thriller that strips away Hollywood’s glitter and hype – and spills celebrity secrets so close to real life, they just might be true.

Brent Stevens wasn’t doing what most visitors come to do in Central Park – no horse-drawn carriage rides or strolls through Strawberry Fields. He was lying face down trying to figure out the basics: who he was, where he was, and who had tried to kill him. He wasn’t coming up with any answers, either – until Tina Ruffo, a tender-hearted aerobics instructor from Queens, lent a helping hand.
Tina was an exception in New York, someone willing to get involved with a stranger. But well dressed, good-looking Brent Stevens was extraordinary too, and so was his plight. After a blow to the back of the head, he can’t recall his attacker. He has no idea what the key in his pocket actually unlocks. And he can’t imagine the traps he’s about to step into.

Now, as his memories come flooding back, Brent searches for the link between him and a mysterious figure living in New York’s exclusive Dakota apartments, a female TV interviewer known for getting public figures to tell all on camera, and a glamorous husband and wife who are Hollywood’s biggest box-office draws. With Tina at his side, Brent stumbles upon some dangerous secrets and finds dark and deadly truths that connect them all.

With breakneck pace – and sharply witty renderings of celebs who seem all too familiar – FACE DOWN IN THE PARK is super entertainment from two of today’s most imaginative authors of first-rate suspense.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In their second successful collaboration (after 1 Ragged Ridge Road), Tony Award-winning director Foglia (Master Class) and former cultural correspondent for the Washington Post Richards create as protagonist a man attacked in New York and robbed of his wallet, his identity and his memory. Having been knocked unconscious in Central Park, perhaps the victim of attempted murder, Brent Stevens is clueless as to his former life. When personal fitness trainer Tina Ruffo comes to his aid after he collapses outside the fabled Dakota apartment house, the aerobics maven from Queens finds that she can’t resist helping the handsome stranger. Using the key to the hotel room found in his pocket, the pair discover his name and some salient facts, and begin to reconstruct his past and understand why he is now in peril. Meanwhile, out in Hollywood, Tinseltown’s favorite golden couple, Jennifer Osborne and Christopher Knight, prepare for the premiere of their controversial new film, a figleaf-less adaptation of the creation story, which is stirring alarm among conservative religious groups. Gradually it is revealed that Brent’s fortunes are tied to the stars through a blackmail scheme cooked up with slick Hollywood press agent Geoffrey Reed, involving compromising photos Brent had taken of the actors. Despite slow-motion character descriptions at the beginning and relentlessly chirpy but stiff dialogue, the authors’ adept pacing and their smart parceling out of clues ratchets up the suspense. Given the authors’ insider take on the entertainment industry, some of their West Coast creations are spot-on, with fictional interviewer Deborah Myers a perfect Barbara Walters clone. On the East Coast, however, while Brent makes an adequately credible befuddled hero, Tina’s heart-of-gold tough cookie verges on the stereotypical and her constant exclamatory statements and interjectory tics (“Paula H. Prude!” “Jerry H. Seinfeld!”) merely annoy. These cavils notwithstanding, this is a peppy story with appealing moments of celebrity titillation.
