I cut my teeth as a writer covering the Cape Cod Baseball League and other sports for what was then called the Cape Cod Standard-Times and later the Boston Globe, studied the craft of writing with Robert Lowell, Kurt Vonnegut, Monroe Engel and Carter Wilson, and served as Fiction Editor of the Harvard Advocate.

I am Bronx born of Irish descent. Despite a family move taking me to Michigan as a teenager, where I spent most of my adult life, NewYork keeps calling me back. Because my ancestors arrived through Ellis Island more than a century ago, I sometimes think I possess a genetic component that craves a very specific high energy environment indigenous only to New York City. On my bucket list is to eventually end up back there…well for summers at least.

So it was no fluke that at the beginning of my writing career my first work would revolve around a famed, Bronx born, Irish N.Y.P.D. detective, Dax McGowan, who is driven to track down and kill the priest that caused his daughter’s suicide.

It’s Dax’s battle with the institution, a politically weakened response from the D.A.’s office, and struggles with his own grief and conscience in the process. There are also two very strong women who Dax must engage in order to reach his prey. One is a lesbian, street smart S.V.U. detective, and the other a lady who heads a worldwide sex abuse victim’s network who carries a secret Dax endeavors to uncover…though this relationship involves some intriguing twists.

What he doesn’t expect is that the quest to destroy his daughter’s killer will only lead to facing his own imminent death. Dax has his quirks, but without them, he’d be less than the revered detective he is.
