Here’s the set-up for Dan Pasquale’s Past Tense, just $2.99 on Kindle:

How does a cop go missing in action?

Detective Mike Sheridan tried to wrap his mind around the concept as he sped through town. The late night call from dispatch had been anything but helpful. A patrol sergeant was missing after making a routine car stop and Mike was being assigned the case. And so began an investigation unlike any he’d experienced.

Sergeant Dave Bertram, had been involved in a computer espionage case that had put him in conflict with the KGB two decades earlier – but could that incident have come back to haunt him, all these years later? With the help of the senior FBI inspector who had worked on the original case, Sheridan tracks the suspects across the country, but who wanted Bertram dead, and why?

As Sheridan struggles with grief over losing his colleague and tries to find time for his new girlfriend, he doesn’t realize someone else is also working the Bertram case—a mysterious figure who knows more about the past than he does.

From the reviewers:

Mystery/thrillers, especially police proceduals, are one of my favorite reads. Dan Pasquale did a terrific job on this, his first novel. Action packed, excellent character development, suspenseful plot, romance without being dirty. I look forward to more from this author.  –  “ShadowtheDog”

I am a James Patterson fan and I am happy to say this book reminded me of Michael Bennett character from Patterson’s book. It is a fast paced book and kept my interest the whole time. I really enjoyed the characters in the book and had each one visualized quickly. With roots to law enforcement, it made this book even more enjoyable, although those without would also enjoy it.   –  Robin Neal

I read this exciting book on the advice of several coworkers. Dan Pasquale knows police work and tells it like it is. He was right on in so many areas that I felt like a member of the Mission Police Department. Dan grabbed my interest from the first word. He made me tear up at his depiction of a police funeral. He told a good believable story. I’ll be sure to pick up his next installment.  –  Reading Robert

Dan Pasquale is a retired police sergeant with over three decades of experience. Dan has always enjoyed reading and listening to stories.

Being retired has allowed him to fulfill his dream of writing a novel. He is in the process of writing his second novel now.

Here’s the set-up for A.J. Gallant’s Madman in the Mirror, just $2.99 on Kindle:

What happens when a serial killer raises his child to be just like him?

Henry was brought up from an infant to be a serial killer just like his old man, but years later as he discovered that he perhaps wanted to turn away from the dark and into the light, it had become a complicated thing for a shattered mind.

Harold forced Henry to observe the act of murder in the mirror before he could even walk. He saw terrible things in that mirror, and now in fact the man in the mirror talks to him. He was never shown affection of any kind and driven insane at a young age.

From the reviewers:

It was an exciting read. I actually felt sorry for the poor guy. Parts were quite creepy and disturbing, but the humor was refreshing. Love the dog and the duck, made me laugh. Couldn’t find anything else by the author. Reminds me a little of Kurt.  –  John Carpender

A very unique and well written book- MADMAN IN THE MIRROR is on a class by itself- and that is a very impressive class at that.   A.J. is a master at creating word images that remain with the reader long after the book is finished- -the true sign of a great writer!! –  FOUNDER , THE JAMES MASON COMMUNITY BOOK CLUB

It is hard to explain the plot without spoiling things – but I will say that this is a very interesting story, that in the end addresses nature vs. nurture, among other things, such as life after death and heaven and hell, just to mention a few.  –  K. Sozaeva

Kindle Nation Daily Bargain Book Alert: Monte Dutton’s THE AUDACITY OF DOPE is Our eBook of the Day at just $2.99 and FREE to Amazon Prime Members Via the Kindle Lending Library, With 5.0 Stars on 8 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Riley Mansfield is not your typical hero. He writes songs for a living, smokes pot for recreation and just wants to live and let live. But when he foils an apparent terrorist plot to blow up a small plane over his hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, he is thrust into the spotlight, which is exactly where he doesn t want to be.

Suddenly, everyone wants a piece of him, including both major political parties. They aren’t willing to take no for an answer, partly because it’s an election year and partly because what happened on the plane may be a bit more complicated than it appears.

Emboldened by his own obstinacy, Mansfield and his Girl Friday, Melissa Franklin, lead the government and the Republicans on a sometimes merry, sometimes painful, sometimes lucky chase. Along the way, they stumble across unlikely friends–a Democrat strategist, a Rolling Stone writer, a pair of sympathetic FBI agents and ruthless enemies.

Theirs is a love affair of sex, drugs and country-folk set against a backdrop of political scheming, hidden agendas and an unraveling plan to maintain control of the government.

The American people deserve to know the truth, and it’s up to Riley to tell them…if he can live long enough to get the chance.

From the reviewers:

Just like a good country song it has everything. It has political intrigue, romance, suspense, humor and surprise plot swings. I laughed, said ‘wow’ out loud several times, and I bet some people might even blush. Congratulations, Monte! Your character, Riley Mansfield, gave me a fun day of reading that made me want to skip watching Sunday NFL football and the NASCAR race.  –  S. Sheppard

A real joy ride!  It is pure entertainment. Many of Riley’s original song lyrics are included in the book, and I could not stop myself from visiting YouTube to see and hear Monte play and sing these very same tunes.   I recommend this book to anyone that loves “home grown” folk music and a great down to earth protagonist with the audacity to take on the political machine.  –  E.J. Kelton

The Audacity of Dope needs every one of its 390 pages to tell the full story, and its a great story. There are some things I don’t particularly like about protagonist Riley Mansfield, but I like the guy. The supporting cast of characters is also very well developed. This is an easy, action-packed and, strangely enough, believable story, one that takes several turns and gets told from several angles  –  Joe

FINALIST for Spinetingler Magazine’s Best Novella of 2011 Award

Praise for Fingers Murphy:

Fingers Murphy was recently named one of the Top 3 Indie Crime Authors by Crime Fiction Utopia.

Readers and reviewers call his work “poetic” “literate” “fast-paced and suspenseful” and “as good as it gets.” – New York Times Bestselling author Debbi Mack wrote of his debut legal thriller: “Move over John Grisham!”

Now Fingers Murphy pushes his work in a new direction with this deceptively simple novella that explores the basic question: what drives someone to kill?

The answer, like life itself, is never as simple as it seems. As a prison psychologist and his young patient peel back layers of violence, abuse, mistrust, and missed opportunities, we see a family imploding on itself and the sometimes disastrous effect parental decisions have on children.

Killers aren’t born, they’re made.

This 30,000 word novella will keep you up late to finish it in one sitting, and it will stick with you long after you put it down.

From the reviewers:

Beautiful, Powerful and Brilliant. Every once in a while a writer comes long that challenges you to think about what you have read, touches your soul or make you react in a way you couldn’t predict prior to reading their work. Fingers Murphy has crafted a story that does all three in Everything I Tell You is a Lie. – Aldo T. Calcagno

A compelling little story, full of the true-to-life details that make it seem like a real narrative about real people in a real place. I want Murphy to tackle bigger and bolder subjects with the same eye. – John Perich

Certainly much more than just something to read while sitting in an airport wasting time waiting for planes that are always late. If the order in which his books have been “published” is the order in which they have been written, Murphy is progressing as an author, and certainly has me waiting for whatever comes next. – Amorphous

Cathryn Grant’s BURIED BY DEBT is Our eBook of the Day at just $3.99, with 4.0 Stars on 11 Reviews, and Here’s a Free Sample!

Here’s the set-up for Cathryn Grant’s Buried By Debt, just $3.99 on Kindle:

Devon worships Jenna. Their friends say he’s obsessed with her. Maybe he is. He wants to give her the world. Counting on a lucrative promotion, he bought a multi-million dollar home in Silicon Valley for her. It’s all good because Jenna adores him. He’s a lucky guy.

Jenna loves Devon, loves her job, and loves nice things.

Now, the economy’s gone south, the promotion is delayed, and Devon and Jenna are desperate to hide their sky-rocketing debt.

When a childhood friend confronts them about the money they owe, jealousy and secrets erupt in violence.

Buried By Debt – A Suburban Noir love story.

From the reviewer:

At the beginning this story is almost too realistic with the current economic situation there must be many people just managing to survive on their income. The two main characters in this story Devon and his wife Jenna would have been OK if Devon’s expected promotion and bonus had come good but when it didn’t their debts spiraled out of control while trying to keep up appearances. Up to this point about 30% on the Kindle scale it would have been a 5* book, in my opinion, the characters are well described and you can feel for them both having their own point of view that does not quite align.  Bob (UK)

Cathryn Grant’s short fiction has appeared in Alfred Hitchcock and Ellery Queen Mystery Magazines. Her short story, “I Was Young Once” received an honorable mention from Joyce Carol Oates in the 2007 Zoetrope All-story Short Fiction contest.

Reviewers have said they “stayed up late finishing” her first novel, THE DEMISE OF THE SOCCER MOMS. and Red Adept Reviews gave it five stars. She is also the author of the Madison Keith Psychological Suspense Novella series – murder, ghosts, and soul mates – FATAL CUT (#1), SHALLOW WATER (#2), and UNHOLY CHILD (coming December 2011).

One reader said this about her Suburban Noir fiction: “She makes the mundane menacing.”

From the reviewers:

Political intrigue! Corruption in the White House! This book was a really good read – I was kept page turning – and made me think about what’s really going on behind the scenes of government and its ties to big corporations. Great fiction makes you think about real life. Oh and I liked the double entendre of the title – great name for a book!  –  Andrea Cornell

This is one of the most original ideas for a story I’ve come across in a while. I love political intrigue stuff and “Lust Takes the White House” delivers with entertaining twists and turns.   Vibrant, crisp and page turning.   –  Colin
