The main character, Peter, is a traveling salesperson. He has no family, no property, and, most importantly, no time to develop a meaningful relationship. Though he meets hundreds of people with individual stories of their own, Peter finds himself unable to tear his thoughts away from his married boss, Tatiana.
Peter is a sensitive and caring person, and his story is genuine and sincere. The themes are real and relatable, but the writing is lighthearted and even humorous. The author is able to write about everyday thoughts and events in a way that is captivating and intriguing. He truly captures your attention and brings the story to life! This book is short, only 112 pages long, but I enjoyed every one of them, and I'm sure you will, too.

Machado's greatest forte is still her ability to create characters that are not only relatable, but remain original and unforgettable; the characters serve as a vessel to immerse us in a world that is beautifully crafted and incredibly deep. Maggie's Turn is delightful! Who hasn't thought of just driving away? Well, Maggie actually does it - without planning, without malice, just drives away. Once again, Ms. Sletten has taken a difficult issue and written an enjoyable, thoughtful story. Her well-developed characters are believable and I especially liked Kaia, Maggie's teen daughter - if you've ever been a teen girl or had a teen daughter, you'll identify with Kaia, as well. My favorite takeaway pearl is "You marry and look forward to all the possibilities together, then slowly come apart as those dreams become reality." Like most authors I know, I'm a voracious reader. My favorite classic authors are Edith Wharton, John le Carre, Martin Cruz Smith, Jane Austen, Graham Greene, P.D. Wodehouse, Margaret Mitchell, Glen David Gold, and Raymond Chandler.
As for contemporary authors, I think that both Martin Cruz Smith and John Le Carre are two of the best writers alive, and I love the writing styles of Helen Fielding, Jackie Collins and Allison Pearson. I think John Lescroart and MJ Rose are amazing, both as authors and author advocates.
I'm a cinephile (I see everything--chick flicks, action films, art house movies, almost every kind of foreign film) and I'm a walker and hiker--anywhere from four to eleven miles a day.
Otherwise, I'M WRITING. Or researching for my next books....meeting the wonderful people who let me know that what I write resonates with them...or hanging out in my fave bookstores (which is any bookstore in any town I happen to be in, at the time).
